  1. one of the guys in our club got to do it & he loved it. He said some of the anglers are quiet & focused until they got their limit, then they loosened up a bit. From the sounds of it, it will be the time of your life if you get to do it.
  2. KVD wins the classic & Brandon Palaniuk is the AOY.
  3. Just do it! One word of caution though, tournament fishing is addicting. Just remember to have fun most of all. Be honest & courteous & the other anglers will help you. Tournament anglers are some of the nicest people. When the season is over I miss hanging out with the other anglers almost as much as I miss the fishing.
  4. Kitchen Lake is now owned by the city. It used to have good bass in it. I've fished out a few times but I have a buddy that fished it a lot over the years in a tube. I put my little tin boat on it when the city was doing the work around it, but it's all cabled off now. The lake at I-40 & Rockwell is accessible from sw 15th st, from MacArthur. Just go west on 15 & it runs right to it. It's called Crystal Lake. It is owned by the city as well. Never fished it, but heard some good reports about it.
  5. I fish from the back of a boat in a team club. I feel I have the same chance to catch fish as my partner does. Sometimes it is advantageous to be in the back cause you can hit the cover from a different angle. Been many times my partner has casted at a piece of cover a few times & then I catch a fish off of it. But, if you are being "back boated"on purpose, then the club should find better members.
  6. Just looking for others that live in Oklahoma that might be interested in a jonboat based bass club. We fish mainly in the central part of the state. Let me know if you are interested & I will give you a link to the site or check the bass club section here under Jon boat club in Oklahoma.
  7. JON BOAT BASSIN' We are a new club out of the Oklahoma City, Ok area. Jon Boat Bassin' is a family oriented, semi-competitive club aimed at getting together for fellowship and good times on the water. We would like to grow this club to 25 teams. Our philosophy that we base the club on is low cost recreation. All an individual has to do is have an jon boat, gas motor (optional), trolling motor, rig up a live-well and you are set to fish one of our tourneys. Another aspect of low cost, our tourneys are $30. So two fishing buddies splitting the cost is only $15 each for a days worth of competitive bass fishing. We payback 100% of the entry fees throughout the year & all of the membership fees except for club operating expenses. We keep the pay-outs small so that we can spread the money around farther! NO ONE IS GETTING A BIG CHUNK OF THE MONEY!!!!!! This also deters those anglers looking for a big pay-day. We truly do not want anglers fishing our circuit for the money....the pay-out just make it a little more fun. Check out our site: http://jonboatbassin.weebly.com
  8. Thunderbird has big fish in it. We fished a tourney there back in early spring. The weather was crap, very windy & cold. The winner won with 12.5 lbs, 2 fish. The best place is up north in hog creek. They are hard to find. I live 10 minutes from it & I usually go elsewhere to fish for bass. I do fish it for crappie some. Konowa is a great place to fish. I haven't fished Cobb in 25 years. I know it has good crappie & sandbass in it also. There is a bunch of small lakes around that don't get as much pressure as some of the bigger lakes do that you can have some success on. I try to fish them because of the boat I own. If anyone has any interest, my wife & I are running an electric only jon boat club. The website is www.electricbasstrail.webs.com. The tourney dates have not been set yet.
  9. I haven't fished it in a little over a year. It holds good size bass & crappie. If you go be sure to give us a report.
  10. Bill Dance.I think he is the most knowledgeable fisherman alive.
  11. There is a couple pretty good lakes right outside Lawton. I know there is a club or 2 out of Lawton also. You're right, some really good lakes a few hrs away. Welcome to Oklahoma.
  12. We keep fish in a livewell & then put them in a bag & weigh them on a scale. Our boats didn't come with livewells either, so we use coolers & put aerators in them.
  13. Alberto-1 just 3 boats so far. rockchalk06 - electricbasstrail.webs.com, I'll send you a pm as well. Sissysticks - tournament or not, it's always for fun.
  14. We have a bass club for electric powered Jon boats. If your interested, check out our website for info or message me. Web address is in my signature.
  15. All the way to the fish.
  16. State-Oklahoma Depth-2 ft Technique-Pitching a brush hog 1st fish was 7 lb-3oz, 2nd fish was 7 lb-8oz. Caught them within 30 minutes of each other. Won the tourney, but not big bass. Oh yeah, I'm the short fat dude.
  17. I've heard of people using implement paint as well.
  18. Make sure to use a self-etching primer our it won't matter what paint you use. Have you checked over at Tinboats.net? You should find your answer there.
  19. I hear ya bro. Heck of a predicament you got there. Like they say, where there is a will, there is a way. keep search, I'm sure you will find it.
  20. Go to Academy & look for a 6'6 medium heavy rod. If you can afford it, get one of the h2o xpress rods. If not, then just get what you can afford. While you are there, get a h2o xpress metle reel. They are $50 & for the money you will not find a better reel. Another option, I bought my wife a rod & reel combo from Academy for $60 or $70. It is a Pflueger Criterion reel on a Berkley Cherrywood rod. It is a good combo. You don't have to spend $140 to be successful at fishing. I have 2 rods that were bought at Academy for $10 on clearance.
  21. At times I have wondered about this as well. Interesting answers.
  22. I fished out of a boat like a bass Hunter when I was a kid & it was ok. I have a 14 ft Jon boat now that has been modified to fish like a bass boat. 2 people can stand & fish. Call me crazy, but if you've got room to keep a boat, you should have room for a trailer also.A boat like mine requires a trailer.
  23. I agree with slonezp. For primer use self-etching.
