  1. i hear ya Sam, using live bluegill is a rush and you can land some monsters.... its been about 4 or more years since i called the DG&IF people about using them so the rules may have changed... i'll still use them as well and have got my kids hooked on using them, love to see the excitement of them trying to hook a monster with a live bluegill.... Alfred
  2. i've always been a left handed on spinning and right on baitcast....i'm right handed... Alfred
  3. years ago when i called about using bluegill as bait i was told that you can't net and use them as bait, like you do with shad...no bait buckets full of small bluegill.... i was also told that you can use bulegill as bait but you have to catch them one at a time and that they count toward your bag limit if you are keeping bluegill... some of the largest bass I've caught has come from using live bluegill.... Alfred
  4. from the reading i've done it is not a good idea to have crappie and bass in the same pond, their reasoning is that the crappie eat the bass fingerlings. also i would agree that over population could be a cause as well...ya gotta keep some bass or you will have small bass... i think the ponds per year for bass is around 5 or 10lbs per acre, but i would look that up to make sure... hope this helps, Alfred
  5. Thanks guys....you all are awesome. Alfred
  6. I Love using a bluegill for bait..... I hook it through the lips using a 4/O or 5/O worm hook and fish it weightless around cover. In most states its leagal to use bluegills as long as it is caught with a hook and line and as long as they are not stored as bait. Alfred
  7. Thanks guys, its grerat to be back.......... Alfred

  9. Guys/Gals, My name is Alfred and I moved down from VA about 2 years ago and had the pleasure to help with a CAST for Kids event in VA. I now want to bring that same pleasure to NC, this will be NC first CAST for Kids event. I'm sure you all have heard about the CAST for Kids program on here at some point and if you haven't check out www.castforkids.org. NC is to host the first CAST for Kids event on June 27th at City Lake in Rocky Mount, NC. I'm the coordinator and am in need of a few good fishermen/women to help out with the event. If you want to help please feel free to shot me an email........ alhuff1@hotmail.com Thanks in advance for your help and I know that we can make this event a great one, Alfred

  15. The Story... Today I set the kids down for lunch and asked each what they wanted, we were gonna have sandwiches. My oldest boy said, ham and cheese with mayo....no problem, made the sandwich and he devoured it. My youngest, my baby girl, said, PB&J with MAYO, :-[ yes that's right, she wanted mayo on her PB&J sandwich. At first I was not gonna make her the sandwich, she's not gonna get that, mayo on a PB&J. I move on to my youngest boy, he said, grilled ham, bologna, and cheese, no problem, made the sandwich and he devoured it. Come back to my baby girl and asked, What do you want to eat? again she said PB&J with mayo, so I cut a small square out of two slices of bread and put mayo on them along with PB&J. Gave her the small square sandwich and she ate it, so I ask, Do you still want the PB&J with mayo, Yes! she says. So I make her the PB&J with mayo and she eats the whole sandwich, there was nothing left when she was finished. :o So, this got me thinking, what are some other sandwich combos that you all like that are, lets say strange? Ya gotta love kids, Alfred

Nice fish.... More harm can be done when a few are not taken out. But that horse has been beat more than enough. Alfred
  20. Personaly I love fishing a TX rigged, weightless, worm or lizard. I like to let it fall between the branches and then pull it back up. Take your time and you will catch some nice bass. Hope this helps, Alfred
  21. WOW!!!! This is something that I have never heard of. I guess it is true that you learn something new every day. Now when I see cows I'm not gonna say "MOOOOOOOO!", but "Let's go fishing", thats if they are up and eating. Thanks, Alfred
  22. Red, I would first check with the DNR in TX to make sure that its legal to use bluegill for bait. In VA you can but they must be caught with a hook and line and you can't keep them like you would minnows, also in WV you can but they have to be counted as part of your creel limit. Check to make sure, but in TX it maybe legal. I have caught bass from 6 - 8lbs on live bluegill......it works. Here is how I use them: I like to use bluegill between 2" - 4", 3" is a good size. I use a 4/0 or 5/0 hook and hook them trough both lips. I don't use a bobber. I fish the bluegill by allowing it to swim, try to get away, in a small area, make sure to let it splash the surface, like its dieing. Every now and then let it dive down, then pull it back to the surface. Most of your hits will be when the fish dives. When the bass takes the fish, allow the bass to run for a few seconds, 2-4 seconds, this gives the bass time to get the fish in its mouth and you the ability to have a good hook set, any longer and you run the risk on a gut hook. Then, Hang On for the ride!!!!! Hope this helps, Alfred
  23. Sorry to hear that you had to cancell the event. Things happen that we can't control. Maybe you will be able to do another event later. Alfred
  24. In just about evey state it is illegal to tranport fish from pond to pond. There could be plants and other things that maybe in the lake that you take the fish out of that is not in the lake you are taking the fish to, that would cause serious problems. I would contact your state fisheries and see about getting it stocked, if it is a private pond then see if the owner would pay to have it stocked. Never transplant fish, not a good idea.... Hope this helps, Alfred
