  1. throw out a crank sit down and just relax, prob whack a few... troll it... jk. Fish something else.
  2. I think youre fine i have the same size on my 14ft john with decks and sometimes even on setting 1 its too fast for my liking.
  3. Im planning to buy a nitro this coming winter (wait till the 09's come out buy an 08). I have a bass john I just completed in April, it has the little dink 5hp briggs that came on it. It doesnt run bad at all, especially with just me in it. Ive filled its three gallon tank 1 time and fished 8 trips so far. When i get the new nitro, I will keep the john for when i fish alone and for the rivers. I was looking at exactly what I want to get and the motor options had me wanting the biggest available. Then reality hit and i figured... a 50hp would be plenty with gas prices. I dont need to go an extra 10mph for the price of gas and the extra cost of the motor. Really not worth it.
  4. Seems rather pointless unless you store it in a moist environment. I would think the reason people do that is they think either that the pressure on the springs are bad or something is going to lock up. With the amount of lube in those things, dont bother. Probably came from people storing cars for long periods of time...(not letting the ebrake on) I think its a hoax.
  5. Put your thumb on the spool and crank the handle one direction or the other SOFTLY! It will change that! Looks like your sold on daiwa products anyway from your avatar. Cant blame you, love daiwa. All of my reels are made by them. Except the fly gear.
  6. Correct me if I am wrong but to enter the FLW you have to have a 2000 or newer ranger boat even as a co-angler.
  7. Not only that but fish smell in the parts per million so even if you CANT smell it they probably still can.
  8. My favorite by far is Gary Yamamoto stuff.
  9. I run a trolling motor, fish finder, bilge pump, deck lights and navigation lights off of ONE of the everstart deep cycle... the biggest one. My fish finder tells me volts at the battery. Its only dropped below 12 once after running all that gear for probably 5 hours.
  10. I wanna be able to lift the motor and still know my depth. Unless you are running dual fish finders forget the trolling motor mounting.
  11. Thats odd because my experience with fluro fly fishing is that its HORRIBLE in rocks. It gets nicked up so fast that the invisibility is virtually none.
  12. I would never recommend spiderwire unless its all you can get your hands on. But of the two, Id actually say the spiderwire because it floats and will have a smaller diameter.
  13. Id say depends on what your target species is. I fish mainly for crappies at night so on that rod I have 4lb. Another rod I have 8lb for smallies. Blacklights are nice!
  14. On a spinnerbait Ill use a fingernail file. Ive been throwing the same Gamatsu(sp?) hook for about 5 weeks now on my worm rod and its still dangerous to the touch.
  15. I was using Yum Garlic yesterday which seemed to work fairly well. There must have been a 100 bass boats on the lake so I was rather surprised to take 5 fish. By take I mean catch. I dont eat fish of any kind.
  16. Hey everybody. I just talked to all the rod manufacturers and they are gonna quit making flipping sticks. I just bought all of them but I figured I would tell you anyhow. Who wants 4lb? Or 8lb? You bought all the good stuff then came to rub our nose in it. What a pal.
  17. Duoooh.. sorry I missed that in your first post. I think you will cause yourself a lot of trouble by using 10lb (2lb diameter) braid on your reel. I tried just going down to 30lb braid and had a bad time with line digging and backlash. DT-4s and -1s are very light cranks. The Yo Zuri 10# should be perfect on that reel. You aren't going to gain any distance with the tiny diameter line. Your rod sounds about as good as it gets for distance, 7', soft tip, moderate power should load better with light baits and throw them farther. You may want to consider spinning gear for the real light cranks, if you want more distance. JMHO Ronnie Spinning gear for those definately, a baitcaster just isnt made for that.
  18. Im throwing 20lb suffix on my crankbait rod and its AMAZING! Its so soft even without KVD or any dressing for that matter. I cant imagine what it would be like with dressing. It makes stuff like fireline feel like steel cable and its realtively cheap at $15/150 yrds. I dont have any problems with backlashing. It casts like a dream.
  19. I have this motor on my boat. It came with it, but I must say it moves pretty well. Doesnt use a drop of oil. Is very light weight. Yes its loud but with the right trim setting you ALMOST get up on plane. Im impressed for such a little motor. Anyone thinking of using it as a kicker can forget it. Its too fast even at idle to troll.
  20. Its a tradeoff.... Build the decks high and it isnt the most stable in the world but you have storage. Build the decks low, its more stable but you have virtually no storage. Remember your gonna have: A gas tank, batteries, life vests, ropes, coolers, tackle.... you get my point.
  21. Check ebay, best price anywhere. I got 25ftX6ft of marine carpet for $250 shipped to the house.
  22. Mine is that size. I stood up on the deck the other night while I had my family out. As soon as the old lady moved to do something I sat back down pretty fast. WARN ME!
  23. Id be so MAD... i pitty the customer service at any company when I feel wronged. I once had sprint drop $200 of my cell phone bill.
  24. I just throw it where it lands and make it pretty when i pull it out.
