  1. Might have already shared this
  2. I was on a few decent bucks nothing giant. Couldn't seal the deal. Those mountain bucks run the 1/3 elevation of the ridge on the leeward side of the wind for the day. Allows them to smell top and bottom at the same time. Way more efficient than running around everywhere.
  3. The stiffer the better. I'd go with half inch. Also use stainless screws they're not cheap. Try ebay for boat carpet. Again heavier is better. I'd probably buy at least 20oz. I need to redo mine
  4. If you're building an electric or hp restricted boat you want aluminum not glass
  5. Absolutely right, the amount of money you will pour into that could buy you a really nice boat. My buddy bought a 186 triton, on the trailer with a yamaha 150 for $8000 cash. Deals are out there, just keep looking, keep saving and be patient. My boat is a 92 and this is what has had... Upgraded power/rebuilt motor - went from a 25 to a 40, still not brand new $2000 Trailer stripped and repainted - did it all myself - $200 New hubs, bearings, rear seals - $100 New Merc Control - $250 New Merc Tach Harness - $40 Onboard Charger - $200 Livewell Timer , self installed - $80 New Cover - $200 New rims/tires - $400 New trailer wires , run myself plus all LED lights - $200 This doesnt include the money I dumped into the last engine on fuel pumps, wires, coils .... adds up fast. I paid $3000 for the boat how it sat. If I sold it tomorrow and got near $4k id be ecstatic and the only reason I MIGHT when I sell is that boat will be virtually new front to back.
  6. What action is causing it to blow the fuse. Is it a slow blow or immediate at fire? The main harness is all the electrical transfer from front to back, usually coupled at the control by a second tach harness sending info to the gauges. You need to test for continuity on each wire to try to determine where your problem might be located, this might not even be an engine issue. Does it happen when you trim at the control but not the motor or the reverse? Does it happen at WOT or sitting still? Does it happen when you turn the key. What goes on between that engine and control is not that complex in older motors but you could chase this forever if you dont start narrowing it down by testing.
  7. That reel is very new. I picked it up and cranked it a few times the other day at a Field & Stream store. Seems as nice as my other lews, those knobs are nice. What exactly are you wanting to do with this rod/combo?
  8. What do you recommend if I am able to get it out. Should I then hit the spindle with a dremel and then buff it to try to smooth it back out. Does it even matter since that part rides in the pinion?
  9. You guys are absolutely right, I shouldve called when it happened, I chose not too for whatever reason. Likely because they werent super expensive reels. Most of these companies are good in CS if you call them. Honestly, its been a long time since ive had bad CS from any company. If you call them, tell them the truth usually problems get resolved reel (see what i did there) fast!
  10. I broke the reel foot off a lexa on a hookset. I grenaded a mag brake system on another $100 daiwa. I think they make great upper priced reels but the lower price points are just not enough for the average guy. Most people cant swallow breaking a $100 reel in a couple weeks time.
  11. Open it up, its completely dry inside. The pro has a carbon drag and Im not sure if they were afraid to get grease on it or what. I have two, I cleaned one a week ago and it was amazing the difference using cals on the surfaces of the gears. To answer your question, yes they were like that when new until cracked open and lubed. Even if you dont have the ability to do that, go through their "lube port" which puts you direct inline with gears and add some grease on the surface, turn it, add a little more, dont cake it in there. That reel other than the bearings is BONE dry stock. Any way youre hearing those brakes fly out too on the dual brake system?
  12. The entire push pin, I know that Lews pin is tapered too, I was even going the proper direction.
  13. Im a lews convert. I dont think you can truely buy a better reel at $100. If you have $300-$500 you buy a daiwa or shimano every time. The new lews LFS is an aluminum frame and having just been on the phone with their CS today, theyre excellent to deal with if something goes wrong. If not that reel id be on ebay buying a curado 201G for $125
  14. Everyone says use the right tool, which I thought I was doing. Well, I broke a boca bearing tool yesterday getting a spool pin out of my lews bb1 pro. In the process it mashed it so flat I couldnt push it out, no matter what I tried. I had to pay the piper this morning at lews to the tune of $60 for an entire new spool assembly. The second piper was paid by replacing the boca tool with the hedgehog bearing tool to the tune of $40 $100 issue in a matter of seconds! This wasnt my first time cleaning reels nor using the tool. I think the design of the boca is an accident like this waiting to happen as theres no way to guarantee the pressure in a plier format is pressing strait down on the spool pin. God I hope to never experience this one again! Good news is that both lews and hedgehog have outstanding customer service. I should have this reel back in under a week.
  15. Thanks, honestly I thought I had it won. It was pretty humbling, had I prefixed I might have known to stay, left fish to find fish thinking I whacked the big ones. It sure does limit your decisions. An hour run for me is half hour or less for most guys. My boat is also aluminum and my fav local lake has some massive boats on it. Still have fun...
  16. You can co angler in smaller events but youll likely have to find your own team member with a boat or join a club that has co-anglers. Most of the smaller events where more than one guy is at it, its usually a team event. Not as youre thinking with pro/co like on tv.
  17. Off to the side of the 2 car detached garage. I have to build another area to store my mower and snow blower. If its not one thing its another in the north east at 2200 ft of elevation. The cover keeps it plenty dry. Even once I clear the bay, Ill prob park in there. Not sure what I will do if I buy one much bigger, maybe put down more stone. My town population is under 1000, Im not worried.
  18. Where at, I am from central pa also, live about 35 mins north of Raystown now
  19. Its tough to judge on the lower level if youre ready for the bigger events. Bigger events have things like restrictions on how much you can fish before an event, official practice times and rules that while likely still bent are there to help level the field. You cant really get a good grip on how good you are unless the club makes significant travel to new places frequently. If the club fishes a few home lakes, the guys who have the most time to fish will always be the best. It sharpens your skill yes but theres a lot to be said for not having to find fish on the day of the event. Swindle said a long time ago, youll never know who is the best until the classic date/venue isnt announced till it happens, put your boat on a truck, show up and fish. No practice no nothing, everyone start from scratch. Really, its like anything, the more time and money you can dedicate to it, likely the better you will be. If youre driving down the bank looking at an hds12 and can see that tree you thought about fishing doesnt hold fish, you simply dont stop. The next guy who doesnt have that technology burns precious time because the cover "looks" good.
  20. Not nearly enough large tournaments in my state. Biggest chance Ive played for is $1000 first place, didnt even cut a check in that one came in 11th in a 50 boat field with the slowest boat on the lake though. Felt pretty good.
  21. One thing you need to make sure you never do, crank your boat plugged into a charge system. Ive seen it smoke two controls. Maybe newer boats have down the line resistors, but the older ones usually do not. Those little wires near the helm cant take a pile of juice.
  22. Frankly, Im ready to see some northern lakes. Not everyone can make it to these events when theyre all in the South. SOMEONE has to have a connection in some of these places. Id be willing to bet theres a backdoor deal with some money stipulation attached. There are tremendous fisheries all over this country. Keep going to the same locations why? Money
  23. You should've taken all the lug nuts off the wheels and pitched em in the lake. I have zero patience for a person like that
  24. A tournament is scheduled for the 29th in pa. Lol I'd bet just like last year that event will be dropped.
