  1. You buy a pretty decent rod and reel. Id go with a pro qualifier and a carbonlite rod(so youre in under $125) in a mh action. You tell him, the rod stays in your boat till you see hes gonna keep up with it. If he quits, you add it as a technique specific rod. Its no $300 setup but will be nice and if he quits you just use it yourself.
  2. My buddy and I took a nasty ride on Chatauqua last year, started the day similar except fog instead of sun. When the sun hit the horizion the wind started. My back hurt for a week. Those close together waves, theres no riding them.
  3. I left a similar situation a couple weeks ago, started my new job two weeks ago. I am very happy with my decision! Good luck.
  4. whos the swimbaiter of the trip
  5. ATX, if all else fails and the trip doesnt go as planned if you can get back to KS you will probably do fine in walk in areas. I have never hired an outfitter. Buddy of mine went to KS and hunted public, he could see another guy from the stand he was in. The guy let a bach group of 4 - 150"+ bucks walk right under him and never picked up a bow. Those guys out there are not like the east coast mentality of kill em all. Ill have enough points to go to Iowa next year. Im thinking an elk or a pronghorn the year after. I love whitetails but I can hunt them at home or a lot closer to home(ohio, ny), so going half way across the US for one seems a little foolish.
  6. A hook will take a LONG time to rust out. If youre talking about a size 16 thin wire dry fly vs a 6/0 swimbait hook its probably longer than you might think. Ive caught fish where it looked like they were gonna be on the cover of the next teen mag, still eating.
  7. I just put mean green on my drop shot rod. I dont think it has quite the following like it does outside of erie.
  8. The banjo minnow certianly wasnt a fluke on creek smallies, my cousin cleaned them up on that thing when the bait first came out with me fishing live shiners beside him on a dead drift. I then tried jerkn them like the jerkbait and that wouldnt work. Banjo minnow and it was game on, that thing works.
  9. The t3 I agree is the best deal at that price right now. Normal pricing its the pro q, it has a fully machined aluminum frame, not a cast one. It really also depends on what gear ratio you are looking for, you cant get all these reels in say a 5.3:1
  10. Shallow - kvd 2.5 Mid Depth - DT10 Deep - Little John DD Lipless - Red Eye Shad Jerkbait - xrap Top - LC Sammy
  11. It would blow my shoulder right out of socket. I am shooting a 50lb compound these days because after having surgery and still having dislocations I dont wanna push it and be 20ft in a treestand with a dislocation.
  12. I shoot a recurve but I dont hunt with it. I also need to soon lower the weight and buy another because my shoulder doesnt like an unassited by cams 50lbs.
  13. The guys saying hard body jerkbaits... downsize to like a 68 pointer, stop always chuckn that 110. You rarely hear talk about the xrap but I absolutely demolish them on that in a series 8. To the walking baits guy... if you can fish a jerkbait you can fish a walker, same action, must throw slack into the line.
  14. You guys having spinnerbait issues. Get in some blowdowns, throw it right into the heart of it, crank it to get the blades started and as you come over the wood kill it. Killing a spinnerbait is the key to its success. I can catch them burning it once in awhile but I rarely catch anything on them in open water. You really should throw it when theres a little stain to the water too.
  15. Sounds like a normal day where I fish, sad but true.
  16. Mutual friend thought we had similar personalities and insisted we met. She didnt want to meet me because of the sterotype of hunters/fisherman being dirty rednecks. Her view on life has changed so many ways the last four years its crazy. Told me she would never eat venison cause she hated it growing up, I explained its in the chef to make venison good and now its the number one requested dinner.

  18. Im to the point I am starting to get angry because of it.
  19. I think the windows 8 environment is awesome
  20. You better have the power to pull it and the brakes to stop it. I agree with these other guys, this post is so all over the place its hard to follow. A budget of $1500 but then now I am gonna get a 30k boat?? You dont know what to buy but want it to cross over from pulling with a 4 wheeler to fishing smith mountain and fishing tournaments. Straiten this out here.... are you a poor guy who just needs a boat to fish or are you in the upper paying range of the average person and can afford multiple rigs?
  21. im running a 92 evinrude 25 that too my knowledge has never been rebuilt
  22. Find a spring fed trout stream, it will be wide open. They dont freeze, youll be trout fishing but its fishn. Ive been considering trout fishing myself, huge background in it just dont have the drive like I used too. However this long winter is encouraging when my parents live streamside to one of the best streams in PA.
