  1. were they new? he had one that was over a year old, and the one that didnt have it, was days old.
  2. anyone ever open a g series and see it missing a anti-reverse pawl? my buddy was cleaning a brand new one out of the box yesterday and it had no pawl for the anti-reverse gear. the only antireverse was relient on the roller clutch.
  3. In Toms defense, not everyone has all day every day to fish. If you fished 50 times a year and caught a 10+ lb bass every other time. It would take you at least 12 years to rack up 300 and thats if you get to fish that much. I on average with working a full time job might get to fish 25 times a year if that. Its big difference out there when you havent been out for a week or more, everything has changed and you might not have a clue where to start(without memories). Throw raising children in the mix and that time goes down for a significant period of life, if your worth your beans as a parent. I consider an 8lb fish a big fish here in the north east. I can count on both hands then number of those I have caught and I have been fishing since I was old enough to walk. Ive got 30 into it at this point, man I must really be worse than I thought.
  4. I knew of him, but never read that story, thats a good one.
  5. I think he owns the company
  6. Thats why you make sub groups. Id love to fish the cali lakes but reality is, its not in the cards anytime soon.
  7. Can we please have one thats not a 12-15 hour drive for us guys in the north east? Or maybe break it into three to four zones and get a better turn out. Same weekend, 4 lakes. One north east, one south, one mid west and one west. I almost feel like you guys think theres not any good water up here worth fishing. I can think of a dozen massive bodies of water to fish.
  8. If you wanna take a run at it without litterally sleeping out of your truck and eating pb&j every day you better either have rich parents or your own financial backing. I think its why most pros are 30-40+ years of age. Thats when you can afford to have ten rods, a new truck and a new boat. Think you dont need a new truck or boat? Whats gonna happen when youre half way across the US and your truck that has 70,000 miles on it from one year blows up. Same goes for the boat, you aint out fishing the elites in a 94 procraft with a merc tower of power. What if you are a young dude, you put your neck on the line for the boat and the truck and dont cash a good check the first year? Those $900 a month payments arent going to wait for you.
  9. The right rod will prevent those tear outs. What happens when you have sixty yards of line out and one hits it? Strech...... oh he came unbuttoned cause I didnt smoke him. Flouro for me, is made for leaders. and putting one on a crankn rod with 8lb diameter braid defeats the purpose.
  10. Id find enough to do with my free time not working. It might be "work" but not in the sense of earn a paycheck. Id probably start a habitat company and buy all the machines a guy could ever want to make habitat. It would go along with 1 sq mile of the best that montana had to offer, id probably have one more mile of it in iowa. Id spend spring-fall on those properties and my winter on a lake like okeechobee just fishn all day. Prob would lose the wife in all this, rather than find another id just hire 25 year old porn stars like charlie sheen... WINNING
  11. Best thing to do is put em back, catch them another day or let someone else catch and eat them.
  12. Not even all fish finders show the channel in every lake, its getting better. If they use the lake for flood control look at it during winter or via google earth during a winter view. I know my lowrance shows the channel of my local lake but my buddies humminbird does not. If it has a channel, it was likely a river, find a map before the lake was there at say a local library. Ponds are not likely to have a channel, they are typically a bowl. A natural lake likely wont have one either. If you want some software you can run try this http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Mapping/InsightPlanner-en-us.aspx
  13. I catch all my trout on a fly rod. The reason you cast upstream and reel it downstream is that is what bait does when it flee's a predator fish, its quicker.
  14. If you stick to everything you read about then youll find out real quick that most of it was just something for someone to write about. KVD's number one tactic at ice out is throwing crankbaits when most guys are thinking you must dead stick a jerkbait. Some people think a jerkbait is only useful in spring and dont even bother trying it in summer. Hair jigs... cold water right? Keep fishing like the people in magazines and books tell you to fish instead of thinking for yourself and youll get every day results. If the fish want a spinnerbait as fast as I can crank it in 40 degree water, thats what theyll get. If they want a shakey head theyll get that. Locate fish then pound on em till they eat.
  15. ive won $500 one time
  16. I wouldnt buy 50lb power pro but thats me. Were catching fish on average that weigh under 5lbs-8lbs. Plus if you put a crank on it, its gonna run shallow. Ive found I personally dont want anything more than 30lb in braid, my crankn rod is rockn 20lb braid, get em deep.
  17. I carry the .380 lcp with a crimson trace, in my back pocket its like having a wallet. Oh you want my wallet, sure
  18. One I am not a huge fish fan. Ive also read that if you hot smoke fish, the oils will end up in your smoker and other meals can have a fishy taste.
  19. One other note, in the world of "sue sue sue" that we live in, if youre gonna have him run power equipment I would have his mom sign a waiver. Dont even know if that will cover you but better than nothing.
  20. I dont think you can just have him cut your grass and give him a $100 rod at the end of summer. As a teen that wouldve really burned me up. Id possibly offer the rod/reel mid way through the summer as a "bonus", if hes cutn your grass every week, the kid deserves some money to spend as he sees fit too.
  21. Honestly, every school from gradeschool to college should institute a uniform and it should be manditory. The school should find a bulk supplier at low cost so that there is no distinction on whos who. It would cut down on bullying in the k-12 environment and teach people to dress the part in college. I just recently left my almamater as an employer. I graduated in 2005. The way these young women dress today is borderline crazy. It leaves absolutely NOTHING to the imagination, you see it ALL. The kid in highschool whos parents doesnt buy him nice stuff gets pushed into a group of others with the same quality of life. Its a mess to say the least. I was what some would consider popular in highschool, but what made me different from most was that I socialized with everyone from every walk of life. If you were nice to me I didnt care if you wore a trench coat, were 200lbs over weight, had goofy teeth... whatever the majority uses to seperate. Its worked out well for me later in life, people who were routinely were not "IN" are now people like my most trusted mechanic .
  22. no way id ever put fish in my smoker
