Christmas 21 - we purchased a 2021 Can Am Maverick Sport Max 1000r with roof, heat, winch, full glass windshield, rear window, trunk enclosure and a sound bar... right at $30k ... to drive through the woods! 3.9% financing on a toy. $450 a month payment for 5 years (I pay double every month)
Christmas 22 - wife got a lightly used 2020 Ford Explorer, its DECKED out. Lane assist, auto high beams, heated steering wheel .... $35k. 6.6% financing $600 a month for the same five years.
We both have 800+ credit scores. The SUV is 1000x nicer than the buggy. The buggy in comparison is a noisy rattle trap, theres barely anything too it. Said to my son the other day, which would you rather have the Can Am or the Explorer. He agreed the Explorer was worth the money.
The dealers couldnt keep anything in stock during covid related to outdoor activities. The one told me people with such bad credit they shouldve never thought about signing were taking 15% APR loans out on $45K buggies.
Isnt my life, I learned my lesson the hard way living above my means. Now I can afford almost anything I want within reason but I dont buy it. I got buddies wanting me to put $10k in electronics on my $12k river boat... I dont think so.
