  1. You wanna catch a smallie for certain, fish moving water, creeks that feed the lakes in mid summer. Im headed to Chautauqua friday, leaving about 9am from central pa. Ive been waiting for weeks.
  2. I wanted to fish saturday, but after spending six hours rewiring the trailer I was simply spent, that and a 4am start turkey hunting. So sunday was of course mothers day. I took the wife and the boy to an animal tour that included elk, bears, bobcats in a wooded setting. On the way to and from all I saw was bass boats headed to the lake. I had mom over for dinner and knew i was gonna fight the odds. The family then decided to join me at the lake and after letting the boy drive the boat for an hour I was finally off to fish on my own for a little. Water temp was 60 and reports were the bass moving up. All I could find were super aggressive crappies up shallow. I was getting frustrated. The more I looked around and thought for a second why I wasnt getting into bass I noticed every boat on the lake sitting shallow. I multiplied that by all weekend long and then the bulb went off. Surely, all these guys pounding the banks have any fish up shallow gigged or shut down. What did I do? Relative shallow, shallow is always relative, it might be ten feet where you are. I myself, found a nice 5ft deep road bed center of the lake and went to work with a shad shape worm and a drop shot. I hooked into a bass that broke me off five seconds into the fight. Youll have that on six lb line. I caught a really nice female, some rockbass full of eggs and missed a pile of fish. I dont believe I wouldve caught a bass had I not been paying attention to the details.
  3. buy a foxpro lol
  4. i think fireline was expanded as a line to include a fluorocarbon?
  5. They look excellent, but you have me concerned. Please tell me you are not doing this in your kitchen, with no ventilation. Even if your wearing a mask thats still getting in the air. I personally dont know what paint you are using but if you breathe in automotive type paint thats atomized it will never leave your lungs.
  6. Snaps are made in different grades, i use them when i am trying to figure out what they want. I might change crankbaits ten times in a two hour span till I get it what I think they want. Take a look at the owner hyper cross lock. I have snaps that looks like 2lb line and others that look like almost a hook themselves.
  7. Whats up with that hub? Three lugs? Id be changing that out for sure.
  8. I experienced what you did on a much much smaller motor. Mine was one of two check valves had fallen apart due to ethanol inside the fuel pump. It would run, romp it open and it would fall on its face and shut off. I chased it all summer. My boat has all new lines and a rebuilt carb because of it.
  9. you can get one from harbor freight on the cheap, i heard they can be fun to title though.
  10. id be amazed if thats not a fuel issue. is the tank vent open?
  11. I wouldnt rely on that too long, you cant even buy ethenol free here unless your buying it by the quart premixed two stroke gas.
  12. Ive been out three times for turkeys, herd one gobble so far, ive seen 9 deer lol.
  13. I hate the way its manages on the spool, its copoly, braid or mono for me. Ive tried many many brands, it doesnt matter. You wanna try a good line, get yourself some mccoy mean green.
  14. love my diesel crankn rod, underpriced
  15. Keep only the best of them all... the ones that really perform better than the rest and sell the others or put them away. There comes a point where you gotta have some idea what works for you and just stick with those baits.
  16. My buddy doesnt fly fish much, he uses a blue colored blue fox spinner with a silver blade and barely rolls it fast enough to not get stuck most of the time. He caught 50+ opening day. Waders are worth their weight in gold.
  17. wait till you have so much gear you feel obligated to sell some before buying more. Blow out 20 packs of $6-$8 a bag baits for like $30 just cause you dont even fish them anymore, not cause they dont work but because you have an addiction.
  18. That was my first lews, i bought the bb1 pro too, it just came yesterday. I really wish they had a smaller/shallow spool series like a 51 shimano, cause id buy it. You get what you pay for in reels for sure.
  19. broke a rod no longer in production a 7'11" orvis superfine when I fell in ten years almost to the day that I got it. Got it back a week later and they replaced it free. broke a daiwa setting the hook with a jig on what i was sure was a fish that was wood. I jacked the hookset HARD. being lazy i stuck a 8' orvis zero gravity in from the rear of my suv. tip went inside the dash, pulled that one out and snapped it off. it was a rod given to me in a sponsorship deal, they replaced that free. At the time it had almost a $600 price tag.
  20. You can watch the live shows as they happen, its a little bit before it comes online, i think its after they air on tv.
  21. i bought the new okuma backpack that holds 3600 series boxes for when i fish with friends or from the bank. getting stuff out of the boat is such a pain, then i gotta put it all back. it will hold 4 boxes, with that, the other area has 7 bags of plastics. If I cant get it done with stuff I know works, nothing is gonna work anyhow. we all wanna think there is a magic bait, there prob is for that day, you dont own it, accept it. BPS has a very similar bag around $40. A backpack that the front opens that you can get boxes out. I hate storing boxes vertical, so this style works for me. Again, this is my travel bag, my boat is absurd how much tackle is in it. I actually just sold three rods and condensed it into 1 because i had ten combos on my deck. When you have a 17' aluminum and have the hatches filled with tackle where do you put rods?
  22. brush aka wood arky = grass football = rock
  23. buy yourself a plano FTO/Elite spinnerbait box, stick the head of the jig in the slot like a spinnerbait. I think they show it different than i do it. I wedge the head on one side of the separation and the skirt on the other side. Its the best setup i have found.
  24. Theres six variations in bass fishing that I prefer to carry 1 - something perch color 2 - something shad color 3 - something craw color 4 - white/chartruce 5 - something gill colored 6 - black I promise if you follow those six colors youll catch fish in every body of water, you know why... thats what they eat, things that color.
  25. Im exactly the opposite. I live in an area with lots of public land to hunt but its not great. Less than a 1000 yards from my front door is a stocked stream that in the summertime holds smallmouth. Ten miles down the road I have a man made flood control impoundment that has mediocre bass fishing at the moment. A mile away, one of the best native trout streams in the state. 20 mins, a lake so full of flipping material you could flip all day and never hit it all. Decent smaller motor lakes within an hour... you get my point, endless fishing. My passion is split equal between turkey hunting, deer hunting and bass fishing. I guess I am blessed to do it all but id trade a little of the turkey hunting and a little of the bass fishing for a little more deer.
