Went out today for some steelhead action. Targeted 7-12 fow with f13 original floating rapalas. Missed two steelies caught three smallies & finally landed the target species. Next time I'll spend more time fishing for smallies as their finally moving in shallow. Water temps were 60-61 degrees. Water clarity was good with bottom visible in 13 feet of water.

I have tried the BBZ-1 4" shad for pike while in Canada and was disappointed with it. I did much better with hard jerkbaits like lc pointer 100's & 128's

Nuts? A clean slate could be a good thing. Are you waypointing structure only or do you use waypoints for fish strikes as well? When trolling or drifting we often put in waypoints for fish bites so we can return to the same spot.

Went out Wednesday looking for some steelhead action & finally found some . This one hit a floating rapala J13 in 7" fow. When I went to net it there was a 15" lamprey hanging on. It got off before I could swing it aboard.

Well spoken, Eric. If you want to learn how to fish a jig you need to spend some time doing it. I learned to jig fish by spending a week on a canadian lake fishing for walleye using only jigs tipped with live bait. Spend a whole week 8-10 hours a day fishing only a jig and you will get comfortable & proficient with the technique.

It always makes me wonder. Was the smallie trying to have sex with that bait or was he trying to eat it?

Beautiful bag A-Jay. Our water temps are still at 66 degrees. It wont be long until you break out the hair jig at 60 degree.

I am certainly not an expert on this matter, but I have made some general observations from fishing experiences. I am like the in fisherman mantra, a multi-species angler. Musky fisherman from experience have learned nothing promotes active feeding fish like a dropping barometer. Forget all else but get on the water as the approaching storm is coming because it will promote a feeding window. When you can combine other ideal circumstances with a falling barometer you can increase your chances to catch more & bigger fish. I would rather fish low pressure than high pressure any day of the week for bass as well as other game fish species.

Good reports JF. That 6lb lunker was a beast.

I use them for smallies with 10lb braid & short leader for baitsfrom 1/4oz up to 1/2oz. I used one this June for a week of pike fishing casting baits up to and including 1oz with 20lb braid. Very versatile reel.
