  1. Fish Grips are always a very good idea since they prevent drops. I wouldn't get too bent out of shape over a small hole in the fleshy parts of the premaxillary process. They heal in about a weeks time. There's a risk of damaging the some of the cartilage though, so you really need to be careful there, even if you use Fish Grips. The best answer is avoiding it altogether but it is still WAY better than hooking them behind the gills, as I see much more frequently in pics of fish on the scale. Now you're messing with their breathing apparatus. These are the ones you want: https://www.thefishgrip.net/shop_the_fish_grip.php#.YILb9ehKiF4
  2. When I'm pitching to targets on a weed flat, and drifting along, as I close in, sometimes there are targets that close enough to flip that I didn't see at first. I automatically switch to a flip cast to hit them quickly before moving on. Usually, I stop reeling in from a pitch with just the right amount of line for the flip to that new target. I keep my eyes peeled for targets both a flip or pitch away. You can really pick apart a spot doing this.
  3. I like the Super Chunk and Super Chunk Jr.. Chunks are definitely their own category, and I wouldn't totally say they are a cold water trailer, though they are a go to for it. I thread the bait through the thick part in colder water to bring the profile down in size. Warm water, I just skered the thing. I love those Johnson spoons @Catt posted. I always travel with at least two: one gold and one silver. Top left: One in the face:
  4. There are a TON of threads on this. The majority of reviews are positive.
  5. Daiwa has the best knobs in the biz.
  6. Seems like this is more about casting to targets and lines the baits run back to the boat. Another thing I thought of was a learning a back hand cast. Pretty useful for the back of the boat guy and doesn't require any special gear or a new boat. Pretty sure Glenn has a video about it in the basics section. I got pretty good at it when I was in the back. Not sure if I could be as good now, but I at least know how.
  7. So few baitcasters do that anymore. Beautiful reel.
  8. Get a bigger boat. One of the things I liked the most about my Bullet was the gigantic front deck.
  9. Flying. Something an ostrich can't do.
  10. I think it highlights the fact that these are just normal people running these companies. With Dobyns, it's always good to go directly to them with questions about specific rods. The dialog here is important too. Thanks for posting this up!
  11. It was in the 80s and 90s. I don't think they could get away with it now.
  12. Then you haven't seen one of Scott's wraps, lol.
  13. The kids are all over the Ruby Kolsch. I actually don't usually drink anything with alcohol in it anymore, but I hear it's really good. If I'm actually gonna drink something it'll be a super fancy cocktail like a Moscow Mule, or a better beer. I liked 12-Horse and the Bock beer back in the day when they were available. The Genny Brewhouse on the river has just okay microbrews, but the food is good. You can still get those little barrel bottles.
  14. The clamshell that the baby proofing outlet covers I just opened came in is more deadly.
  15. I'm not lancing anything, but give that ramp rash scab a week or so and I'll picking it off in one piece to mail into Thrasher for a free subscription.
  16. I'm meh. Apparently skating is out. Played drums for an hour or so, and that's fine. Can carry the baby, so I guess we're good. I did it in the bowl, skating so it makes sense that that hurts. 17. I know you're joking around. It's no longer a suspension around here. Most schools have a zero tolerance policy, with expulsion as the consequence. I won't get too political, other than to say zero tolerance policies don't even begin to solve the problem they think they solving. I'll save my breath for packaging these days requires a you carry a blade, and a SHARP one at that. The packaging itself poses more harm than most weapons if you're not prepared to open one with the right tool. Thanks shoplifters for that. ?
  18. I can do this all day. To stay on topic, I'll add Superstition by Mr. Wonder to my list. Look up his performance on Sesame Street if you want to see him and his band on fire performing it live.
  19. DId you break one, or is this an academic exercise? Reminds me of those "asking for a friend" threads.
  20. Only seems to help if you have a magnetic compass next to your graph. Otherwise, I always leave it at geo north. Maybe there's a better reason to use it?
  21. It's good that you're learning the ropes and the bureaucracy surrounding public waters, but I think you should find a better lake.
  22. Must be a slow news day? These municipal ponds are usually filled with runoff from parking lots and housing developments. Not what I'd call ideal.
  23. Sheesh!
  24. It's a silica bead. It also keeps some air in the package so the hooks don't poke through in shipping. Save them, and when you have enough, sprinkle them on your ice cream
