Hands down....until I come out with my own night time winner... it has to be the 7" single or double jointed MS Slammers! If your lake has big bass, then go with the 9" X2.... Believe you me... I Have one and love it.... I use it for small plastic's. It has been a trooper in my Shimano arsenal. Also have Curado 200 DPV and 200 DHSV, 300 DPV, and two Calcuttas. One original 200 A, and a 200 B. Give it a chance to swarm up. Shimano is real good with repairs, or replacement parts. Good Luck.

Already turned it in, was going to last night. If you look at the center where the holes are drilled out, a ridge had formed in center between holes, with stress marks on the metal. So it appeared that the metal between center to each side had collapsed a fraction, enough to feel. The ridge and stress marks were the give away. Shamano thought it was over load of heavy braid applied to tight. But reel has never had higher than 10lb., and its always been hand spooled.

It seems that a ridge has formed in the center of my spool. It feels concave on either side. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Did I spool too tight... na... bad part? My Curado 200 DHSV is smooth and straight. Just curious, going to take it to Shimano tomorrow and see what they have to say.

I have an old Shimano VCT70M Fast Taper 8lb to 17lb 1/4 -5/8 oz rod and was one of first real bass rods I owned. I had a Calcutta 100A I used on it. It has always worked well for plastics. The question is... what is this pole truly designed for?

Thanks for the quick answer. That is what I thought, but I have been wrong before. As far as Rods are concerned.... Those are suggested weights that the pole was designed to handle?

This may seem like a simple question, but I must ask. Every reel comes with suggested line capacity, such as 8 lb to 14 lb, with said yards. The question is... Is that the only line weights that are suggested for that particular reel? Is it set up for those specific lbs, or is it just giving you options, so as to understand what yardig you would get with lighter or heavier lines? Confused and finally after being just lucky enough through the years or just instinctively good at catching fish... I'm starting to pay attention to the details, that cause others to be successful, and LEARN something new. Like matching Rods and reels, lines and lures, for different techniques.

Looking for someone that has a boat and some knowledge of Irvine Lake. I have fished it twice now, yesterday being the second time. I have had some success but have only been able to rent half day in afternoons, but the rentals have no electronics or trolling motors. If anyone is interested in splitting some gas money, I would love the chance to get up tighter to the fish and be able to read the depths. Saw a lot of fish up tight getting ready to spawn, and need that stealth trolling motor to get at um.

Willie, Welcome to Cali. Were do you live? I live in San Clemente, and fish whenever I can get away from my wife and young kids. Are you talking about the Laguna Niguel regional park? Pay to fish lake? I live in this area, and can only think of this one lake that you might be talking about. If it is, I would be very surprised if it could produce a 14 pounder. Could you be talking about a different lake?

Jermyt and all Cal guys, I live in San Clemente, just north of SD. I get out as often as possible.... so let me know when your around. I fish DVL, SD lakes , and have access to private lake. Always looking for others to git lipped with. Anyway, is your recruiting deal with the Marines? If you are, then you will have access to the Camp Pendleton, which I hear has some great Large Mouth territory. Anyway,,, just reachin out.

Anyone have any recommendations, since I have never fished the river. I hear there are a lot of smallies. My partner has fished it a many times, but I don't want to be completely dependent on him. We are good friends, but also have our on competition between ourselves. Any inside tips would be greatly appreciated.
