  1. Anyone ever heard of Okuma? Okuma VSystem Spinning Reel $149.99 - $159.99:
  2. Join the darkside!!! get a spinning reel 8-)
  3. What's the comparable size of the Pflueger 8038MG? Is that like a Diawa 2000 or 1500? I can't make heads or tails out of Pflueger's reel sizes. I tried comparing them based on weight, but the magnesium makes them much lighter. And the line capacity didn't seem to correlate either. It's just tough buying one over the internet without being able to hold it, ya know? I want a 2500 size'd reel. Apparently a lot of yall like Pflueger spinning reels, so that's good.
  4. I've noticed Pflueger doesn't use the same numbering system as Shimano and Diawa do in listing the size of the reel. For example, a Shimano 3500 is the same size as a Diawa 3500. But what is a 3500 sized reel in Pflueger? Pflueger Supreme® Spinning Reel Reel Model / Gear Ratio / Ball Bearings / Line Capacity / Weight / Price 8038MG 6.2:1 9+1 160/6 7.4 $99.95 8035MG 6.2:1 9+1 200/8 8.8 $99.95 8040MG 6.2:1 9+1 250/10 9.6 $99.95 :-?
  5. When I first started fishing tournaments, I got jitters. Nowdays, sitting in the boat at 6:00 am before the sun rises waiting for the tourney to start... I just feel tired.
  6. Only Power Pro for me. 10 lb test in freshwater/ 40 lb test in salt
  7. Magnesium Frame? Most reels are made from aluminum or graphite frame. Is magnesium better? :-?
  8. I've got a 1988 (88 i think) 16 foot Bass Tracker made out of fiberglass (back with Trackers still made fiberglass boats). It's got a an old 80 horse Merc on it and I can get it up to a max of 45+ mph, when the trim is right, the water is calm, I'm the only one in the boat, with no water in the livewells and low on gas. ;D Most of the time, it tops out in the high 30's.
  9. I've got a Shimano Stratic and a few Diawa Capricorns, but I've been looking to try a different brand. I recently saw the new Pflueger Supreme spinning reel and was wondering if anyone here has tried it? Below is a picture of it. Does anyone have any suggestions for a similarly priced spinning reel - not made by Diawa or Shimano?
  10. Quit, go home and get drunk.
  11. I've never used a "Gulp Nightcrawler". I just looked it up and it kinda looks like a Zoom Trick Worm.
  12. After a long day of fishing, the last thing I want to do is mess with a bunch of dead stink'n fish. That goes for saltwater and freshwater fishing.
  13. I've caught a few bass on the Zara Spook, but it really is a big lure. Most of the time I prefer the smaller sized Zara Puppy. It takes a little more skill to walk the dog with the smaller Zara, but I like the subtle presentation better. However with all of them, I always change those dang cheap hooks Heddon uses. I haven't tried putting a swivel on the Spook, but I doubt it would hurt the action any.
  14. I'm sure we've all seen those advertisements of lures claiming they've been banned in tournaments. Up until now, I never believed any of them. I wonder what exactly is in those bates that would upset FLW? Too much natural foods or something...(obviously you can't use a dead fish in a tournament - processed or not) :-?
  15. I exclusively 1/0 and 2/0 worm hooks with worms. Bigger hooks rob the worm of some action and I prefer more finess. I rarely lose fish while worm fishing and I think you're more likely to lose a bass on everything else, especially crankbaits. As for setting the hook... I prefer an straight up rod set, but sometimes bass hit when you aren't exactly ready and then you have to set it however you can... sideways or whatever.
  16. 1. Freshwater fishing license
  17. I think last year my biggest fish was only about 5.5 lbs. If I had to guess, I'd say I'll probably get a 7 lber by the end of this year. I just hope I get it during an actual tourney and not during practice...... doh!
  18. Now there's a fisherman! Going out on Lake Kissimmee, Lake Toho and Lake Okeechobee and practicing for real tournaments. Now that's interesting! Helpful too, since I live in Florida and fish those lakes. vs Mr. Tennessee and his bathtub sized ponds. :
  19. I agree with that. Those lipped crankbaits need to be cast out as far as possible. After that it helps to have braided line if you want em to dive even deaper.
  20. That's especially true when casting directly into a stiff wind.
  21. Never? Heck, you're bound to gut hook a bass every once in a while it'll die in you're livewell. It's unfortunately happened to me a couple of times. And I'm one of the few boats that leaves my livewell on from the moment I get the first legal fish till the end of the tourney.
  22. Yall keep it up. Glenn is gonna have to change this website to www. TreeHugginHippiesResource .com C'mon, it's a fish. You reel it in and then you let it go. Let's not go nuts.
  23. Agreed about the shape of the bait being a big factor. Curly tails are good example of that. Despite their weight, that tail catches the wind and definately lowers the distance. On a side note, ever take a newbe fishing who can't cast further than a spit away from the boat? And then stare in amazement when they actually reel in a bass! :-?
  24. Nit-pickin Raul to the rescue!
  25. I recently put my boat in by myself and for stupid reason, I undid the front clamp (I'm used to being in the boat while my fishing partner backs me in). In any case, sure enough, I dropped the boat in and it started to float away. Realizing I was about to have to swim for it, I quickly hopped out of my truck and tight roped my way along my trailer as far as I coud to reach the boat as it was floating away. My g/f said I looked like Spider-man. Luckily I got it just in time by the very tips of my fingers. That doesn't make me an athlete. It makes me a moron for undoing the clamp in the first place. :
