  1. Was wondering if any of you guys have had any experience with the Powell Max series rods? I'm curious about the differences between graphite and their Maxumfiber blank material as far as lightness, sensitivity and strength?? http://www.powellco.com/maxumfiber/ Thanks!
  2. Anyone fishing the Scrounger Head jig? Any pros and cons to be aware of? They aren't cheap. I didn't realize that they came in 3 different bill sizes. Does one bill size work better than the other? How much different action do they add to the Fluke trailer?? http://www.***.com/descpageAMSCROUNG-AMSH.html Thanks! Eric
  3. Sentry Fuel Treatment vs. Stabil Marine formula; was wondering which one of the two are better; or do they both rank the same in performance?? Both are to deal with negative effects of ethanol (and the water that ethanol attracts) in gasoline. The Sentry web-site is very informative: (http://www.sentrytreatments.com/shtml/faqs.shtml#anchor731650). I am using the Stabil Marine formula now for my Yamaha 25hp, 2-stroke. I totally believe in the saying that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure and only want to use the best for the long-haul. Thanks - Eric
  4. After some research, I really like the Falcon Cara CCB-5-173DR or the new Dobyns 805 Randy McAbee Cranking Rod. They are more than I originally wanted to spend, but have the characteristics in a rod that I'm looking for. Was wondering if anyone has had any experience (pros and cons) with either rod and what would be the better choice for cranking the Norman DD22 type crankbaits Thanks!! Eric
  5. I'm still digesting the advice some of you guys gave me about a crank bait rod. As I do, I am thinking about a crank bait reel for these deep divers (16' and deeper). I know they require a lower geared reel, but can't find too many that are left-handed. I think the only one I found was the Revo Winch. Are there any other options? Do you any of you own a Winch; if so, how would you rate it?? Thanks again for your help! Eric
  6. Thank you guys for the thoughtful replies; they all make sense. I do like the KVD series and have had good results with the 3 Falcon rods that I own; I'll look into their Low Rider series. Looks like they have 2 Low Rider cranking rods; one 7' and the other 7'6"... Thanks again!
  7. I am in the market for a crank bait rod that I can use to work the larger cranks that run in the 16 to 20 feet depth range. I went to Bass Pro Shops and spent over an hour and a half looking at different rods. I was specifically looking for a rod at least 7' in length, preferably even longer, that wasn't too tip heavy. I also wanted a long rear grip. After all the time spent, I really liked the new KVD series rods (7'4 didn't have the 7'10 to see) and a 7' Falcon Original FC-5-17 casting rod. I looked at the Quantum Energy PT's but they were too tip heavy compared to the others. The Mojo series rods by St. Croix were really nice, but the handle on the 7' medium casting model was way too short IMO (around 6). I would of bought the Mojo but for that. The rear handles on the KVD and Falcon rods were 10, which still felt a little short. I own a Dobyns swimbait rod that is 7'9 with a 14 rear handle and it is a rocket launcher! It just seems that the longer handle helps in casting and gives you good leverage tucked under your arm. Not sure if I can afford another Dobyns though =( Any recommendations on a long range casting cranking rod that can handle the pressure of big-lipped divers?? Am I the only one liking a longer rear grip; sad to say the market seems to answer yes Thanks for any input! Eric
  8. I have used Triple Fish's X-Rated line the past 2 years and really like it. It does exactly what it says; just Google their website and read about it (I tried posting the link but the forum blocked it). It's a hyped-up mono that has become my all around line for a lot of different applications. My other line is braid, which I use braid for frogging and jigging around trash. Best of all, it is real reasonably priced. Eric
  9. Thanks for the replies. Megastrike pops up a lot. I checked out Megastrikes web-site and see that they have a new formula for 2009, but only one, where most have different "flavors" to choose from. What does Megastrike "smell" like? The website didn't say anything about it being oil or water based. Does anyone know???There seems to be pro's and con's for both. Oil clings better, but water based dissolves into the water better, possible enticing a strike???
  10. Just wanted to see what your go-to brand of scent is, if you use it. I've been using an old bottle of Kick'n Bass in Crawfish for the first time with great success this early season fishing Texas-rigged creature baits. I'm looking for a good baitfish (shad) scent to use on swimbaits, flukes, ect. Any suggestions? Kickn'Bass makes an Anise flavor Never tried anise; is it good?? Thanks! Eric
