  1. nice. thanks guys. I have an E7, so i'll probably throw it on and see how it feels.
  2. so i found a great deal i couldnt pass up on one of these babies, so i bought it without ever holding one. i heard they were very light rods, so i was planning on getting a light reel for it. the rod showed up yesterday in the mail and my first impression when holding it was that it felt a bit tip-heavy. so my question is, what is a good reel to match up with this rod, and will a light reel not be the best choice because of the tip-heaviness? i was originally thinking of maybe a daiwa fuego, or a abu revo premier, or a light shimano. any help?? thanks
  3. can anyone chime in on an avid vs. a crucial? i'm lookin at the 6'6" medium light models. Anyone have any opinions on which one is a better rod for the money. They both look like great sticks.
  4. Personally, I would go with a flouro leader. But just to throw this out there - I have a buddy that dropshots with 10lb braid and no leader. He always catches em and is always winning tournaments. we fish in alot of ultra clear water too. I dont have the confidence to do it, but he does and has the sucess to back it.
  5. yea i was strongly leaning towards the avid. I don't own any avids, but i've heard good things.
  6. i'd like to keep it under $200.
  7. Hi everyone. I'm looking for a recommendation on a good light spinning rod that will work with 4 to 6lb flouro and light baits like 4 inch weightless worms. Something that will allow me to cast such a light rig. My local shop has nothing like this in stock, so i'll have to order one and i'd love some opinions before i do. Thanks alot!
  8. we probably caught 15-20 on chatterbaits. Yea using a twin tail grub for a trailer. Just fishing it like a spinnerbait around clumps of hydrilla
  9. green pumpkin chatterbaits with black blades. The 7-2 was caught right next to the sign on the tall wood post just as your coming out of the fenced in area where the ramp is.
  10. thanks guys. Back to reality up here. the boat's in the shop, but i'm still dieing to get out and fish the cold 40 degree water.
  11. Hi all. I get a great deal of info from this board and am very grateful for it. I just got back from a trip to FL. My Father, my Uncle, and I fished lake Toho on April 1st and then went to the Stick Marsh on April 2nd and 3rd. The fishing on Toho was slow but steady for most of the day. The bite really picked up later in the afternoon and we caught alot of bass on chatterbaits. Most fish were caught within site of the state launch on the north end. My father got a 7lb 2oz beauty on a lipless crank. The biggest fish he has ever caught and weighed was a 7-5 so this was a special fish. All bass were caught in, around or near hydrilla. The next two days on stick marsh were two of the best fishing days of my life. This was my first time on the marsh and it was more than I ever wished it could be. We caught about 160 fish between the three of us the first day. It was partly to mostly cloudy, hot and windy with a south wind. The water was muddy, but the fish didn't mind. I caught about 50 bass on the swim senko with an 1/8oz weight pegged to the nose. My uncle caught fish on 8 and 10inch worms and spinnerbaits. My father caught a 5lb 12oz and a 5lb 8oz bass on a spinnerbait and also lost one that was bigger than those two. Day 2 on stick marsh was even better than day 1. It was overcast, with rain showers and very windy to start the day out. In the afternoon thunder showers came through which forced us to take the boat to shore and hunker down to be safe. After the storms, the wind died a bit and we had a nice evening. The bite was on that day. Funny thing was I could not catch a fish on the swim senko - the bait that caught me 50 fish just one day earlier. Today the spinnerbait bite was on. But it had to be white to produce best. We caught about 180 bass that day with almost all of them coming on spinnerbaits. My uncle caught a couple of 5 pounders, lost one close to 7 at the boat, and broke his personal big bass record with a 7lb 9oz beauty. His previous best was a 7-5 caught up here in new england. After this fish came the lightning. The bite was on but we parked and hid from it to be as safe as possible. After the storm, we continued fishing and catching. I then hooked into the biggest bass of my life which came in at 10lb 8oz. She hit my spinnerbait like a freight train and proceeded to jump 4 times during the fight. This fish was very special to all of us. None of us had seen a 10 pounder until this day. Thank you everyone for posting great info on this board and sorry this post is so long. I just had to brag a bit and show her off. First pic is my dad with his 7-2. Second is my uncle with his 7-9. the last couple are me with my 10-8
  12. OK everyone, here's the deal. I live in northeastern Massachusetts and I pulled my bass boat down to okeechobee in january this year. I fished for a week, then left my boat and truck down there and flew home. I will be flying back sometime in the next couple of weeks to drive it back home. I was planning on fishing for a few days then makin the long drive. But i was wondering if there is a great place to fish on the way back, ideally like halfway through the 25-26 hour drive. That would be around northern north carolina or in virginia. I know nothing about the lakes down there and any ideas would be greatly appreciated. A lake with big bass would obviously be a plus. I'm a northern boy and i've never hit the 8lb mark and i'm dying to do it. Thanks alot everyone
  13. Thanks alot for all your input, everyone. This site is great. We're gonna give it our best shot on okeechobee, and maybe try the everglades for a day or two, depending on how the lake is fishing. Is Holey Lands a good place for good sized bass? I've read that you catch alot of dinks at holiday park and the Loxahachee flats
  14. thanks for the replies. I'll be arriving there friday the 23rd and leaving on thursday the 29th - the day after the tournament will start. Maybe I'll get a couple good days on okeechobee even though lots of pre-fishing will be going on. I'll probably do a couple days on the O and a couple on the everglades.
  15. thanks fishindaddy. I figured the crowd wouldn't bother me much if the fish and the crowd are out on the main lake. From what i've heard, the rim canal holds lots of fish that time of year as opposed to the main lake and that can be the place to be. i figured that might get crowded. I could always just run for miles, but from what i've heard, the fish really bunch up in this lake and they can be hard to find. Is this true, or is it just what guides say to convince you to hire them?
  16. Hi everyone. I am driving myself, my father, a friend, and my bass boat down to florida the last week in january. I'm staying at roland martin's marina in clewiston. I planned and booked this trip not realizing that there's a 200 boat FLW series tournament out of roland's marina the week I will be there. I'm just looking for some advice - we'd obviously like to catch some fish and have a good time. Is there any areas of okeechobee i should concentrate on? Also, if i get sick of the crowd is there any other good places to go near by? I'd love to do a day or two on the everglades too. Any suggestions? Thanks alot in advance. Any help would be awesome.
  17. Does anyone know a good launch to use on Champlain around the Mallet's Bay area? I've been to the lake a bunch of times but have only gone out of Ticonderoga, Plattsburgh, and i've gone out of Appletree marina in VT. Is there a public launch around Burlington / mallet's? Thanks alot
  18. I once caught a 100lb snapping turtle on a Pop-R. Man, when that thing boiled on the bait and I loaded up, I thought I had the state record bass.
  19. I bought 2 BPS crankin stiks this year. I got the 7'6" MH abn 7'6" M. I honestly really like these rods. And I don't ever go cheap with my gear. I own Gloomis rods, Daiwa Cielo rods, Steez, etc. I took a chance with these because they were on an internet sale. They were only like $25 bucks each. And i've caught alot of fish on them and they handle really well. I was VERY surprised
  20. Thanks guys. $205-210 delivered huh? Wow, I should check out ebay. Any recommendations on ebay stores to get it? I was gonna order it from ***.com but they were supposed to come in yesterday but never did and don't know when they're coming. I'm kinda glad now tho. I'll check out ebay. Thanks alot!
  21. Thank you, my friend. A little assurance is what I needed.
  22. I was going to order a shimano Mg51 last week but they were out of stock at that store. I decided to wait and think it thru further. I'll be using this reel with a quantum tour edition PT 7ft med. heavy action rod. Most likely texas rigging worms, tubes, etc. mayble some light jigs. I'd like the versatility of being able to throw relatively light baits in the wind (I live in the northeast) and being able to throw a heavier texas rigged worm too. I was also thinking about getting a curado 101D instead of the mg51. Do you think the extra $50 is worth it? Or any other suggestions in the $200 range? Thanks alot.
  23. Hey Alpster, where did you order your Mg's? I thought I was getting a great deal - $30 off and free shipping so $219.99 at shimanodealer.com. I ordered yesterday and was all excited, then I got an email this morning telling me the item is on backorder unit July 25th. I got a refund and now am looking for somewhere else to order from. Any suggestions?? Thank you
  24. Thanks guys. And Alpster, with 5 of those reels you definetly are one of "they". I haven't heard many negative things about the mg50, so i think i'm gonna like it.
  25. They have the Scorpion 1001 on japantackle.com for $199. Ahhhhhh. I can't help myself. I need to buy something!
