  1. yes it has been raining tonight BRING ON THE 50s Boats on Res gah I dream of the day I could put a boat on my local res... Even a simple aluminum boat with paddles :'(
  2. "Winter Needs to end really soon" Yeah it does!!! I spent a few bux at bps Yesterday I organized my lures/baits and came to the realization that I need one more box for senkos and BOAT lol I usually fish from shore and dislike carrying any thing more then a decent size book(back)pack, so its a pain to decide what to bring in the ever so changing weather patterns we have up this way
  3. Northland Slurpies Holographic dip sticks Has any of you used them? How well do they work compared to other senko baits? Are they durable? They look like they would work well in many conditions I was at a baitshop recently and was able to check them out, they have an extreme smell and are very soft. owner had a sample I have a pick of a 6 color kit they have out for sale if any one wants to see it just let me know
  4. I use the smaller 2-3 inch stick baits on the back of buzzbaits and spinner baits at one specific lake... I get 5x the hits for what ever reason with the stick bait on the back, then I would any other trailer. I have caught big bass with small baits in many situations... I usually try the short stick baits when I notice bass either prating on bait fish, in beds and or when the fishing is slow... Big baits big bass is a myth especially with largemouth When it comes to small young largemouth, they have no fear and do not understand that they at many times are too small to hit pray/baits its size or half its size. The young small bass will hit all size baits and many times will be caught on bait the size of the bass, I have caught several 5in bass on fat senkos, spooks, and jerkbaits the same size of the fish... The larger bigger smarter bass usually choose what it will eat depending on basically its metabolism at the time of its pray arrival. I site fish a lot and many times will cast into a small school of a few fish and even using a fat 6in senko, will pull a smaller bass out of the school before a larger bass In my own outings I have caught more bass including "size" bass with small - average baits then I have large baits... Though I did just receive 10 free 7in senkos that I am planing on trying out. Seems too big IMO
  5. ditto though I am out of pumpkin which saddens me greatly Fish see colors, best in midday clear sky conditions. Once nightfall hits Bass do lose the ablity to see colors especially reds and blues... The best color to use at night is Black, take a look outside with only a moon light helping your vision, what colors can you see. 3 simple options which generally catch bass (color wise) *Trigger colors chartreuse other yellows and bright oranges *Something with sparkles which mimics bait fish whites grays *Greens/browns/reds which mimic craw fish/some pan fish Try fishing a day where bass are inactive I bet, it will be specific color chooses that will catch you bass where others will leave you thinking that there is no bass in the area I usually buy several colors and at times choose some colors over others depending on what lake I am fishing... Quick story I was fishing a big res from shore... I had bought 4in watermelon stick bait the night before and figured I would try it out That morning I caught about 15 LMB in 2 hours in one spot (a steep drop off where weeds meet the drop off) Then out of no where the fish stopped I tried several other colors and sizes I took out a red/black kinami senko 5in (which usually works best on another local res) After about 3 casts the fish turned back on for another hour I fished the same area and caught 6 more one being 5lb the biggest of the day Colors do matter but, if you do not fish often/only fish small ponds and lakes I would never suggest going out and buying 12 different color stick baits The best way to learn about what lures to use and when is to read a book or two maybe even a detailed video on Bass.
  6. A buzz frog 3in or 6in senko (stick bait) red/black or smoke shad Try to fish the outside of the mats of possible Try to cast into any holes you find in these mats Ribbon tail rubber worm
  7. Like this up coming week for some ponds/lakes ;D
  8. I was thinking about getting a Diawa Regal Xi, I found one for new $40 shipped. Is $40 a good price, is there any other reel for $40 better then this one? I know the XiA goes for $50 online without shipping I found simple info about this real but, I would like and appreciate comments from anyone who has used or know someone who has used this reel. Thanks
  9. A lot of decent places to fish every place I fish (well just about every) has many 4lb + large mouth and thick small mouth as well but, to travel such a distance to fish a small lake meh not always worth it.. Maybe if some one here in the forum or around my way has a boat that they wouldn't mind adding 2 more anglers on LoL we could hit Candlewood Here is some info Located in 5 towns SIZE AND DEPTH - With between ***5,400-6000 acres*** and a maximum depth of 85-93ft, about 36ft mean depth and 90-110 miles of shoreline, Candlewood is Connecticut's largest lake and one of the biggest man-made lake in the U.S.A. WATER SOURCE - Water from the Housatonic River is released from the Main Dam built by Connecticut Light & Power in 1928. This facility is the first pumped-storage hydroelectric facility built in the U.S. BOTTOM - "Basin" flats over 25 feet deep normally have soft silt. The shoreline is primarily steep-sloping and hard-bottomed sand, gravel, cobbles, boulders, bedrock outcrops. SHORELINE - Candlewood fills several flat, winding valleys between steep, forested hills. Northeast Utilities Company controls the entire 60 mile shoreline to elevation 440. Most of the land above this level is privately owned Notes of my own there are several islands, rock points, an actual cemetary, lots of weeds and a load of docks to fish Species of fish Black Crappie, Bluegill, Brown Bullhead, Brown Trout, Chain Pickerel, Common Carp, Largemouth Bass, Pumpkinseed , Rainbow Trout, Rock Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, White Catfish, White Perch, Yellow Bullhead, Yellow Perch Candlewood Lake State Records White Perch 2 lbs 15 oz Don Loftus Jr. 1996 Walleye 14 lbs 8 oz George Britto 1941
  10. Danbury I love small well stocked ponds A list of places I fish Margerie Kenosia East Lake res West Lake res Upper Kohanza res Lower Kohanza res Candlewood lake Eureka which now you need a Bethel res. permit Along with many ponds I fish from shore, sadly enough I do not own a boat
  11. ditto Nice fish as well
  12. PLEASE keep in mind Bill Dance usually fishes well stocked private lakes and ponds.. He is out on the water for hours and hours some times more then one day while recording an episode. Not putting the buzzbait down though Cavitron Buzzbait all of the way
  13. $2.50 for stick baits is a great price but shipping cost ruin it
  14. Looking for new people to fish with, share stories with, and trade tips with from this area.
  15. I start when ever the water opens even in the middle of the winter lol Though like I was told around spring time is best I lost pretty much all of my fishing pictures so I cannot show pics of these fish but, here are a couple of short stories Late Feb about 5 years back fishing a small public pond off of a road. I was using a 3/4 black/red strike king rattling spinner casting form shore toward deeper water (this pond is 7-8ft deep at MAX) Reeling fairly slow, after about 2-3 casts in the same area, about half way to the shore I see a quick flash and my drag went wild. I reeled in an awesome 6lb LMB About the same time the next year in a different area fishing a small open area probably about 20yard long and maybe 15yards wide... Using a baitcaster and briaded line I cast out a senko style lure and let it flutter to the bottom 5 minutes pass and while fishing a spinner toward the right I see my baitcaster fall of the stump and the line straighten I my usually fashion I drop my other rod and set the hook with the baitcaster I pulled in a 5lb LMB Lures/baits to use *Strike King 1/2-3/4 black/red rattle spinner single blade (works well all year round) I have had great luck using red spinner baits with bold gold and silver blade *Rattle traps most sizes and colors work well *Senko style stick bait black/red moss orange/green shad *Rapala xrap suspending stlyle Slow retrieval I am not very patient so I usually just cast out a senko in a specific area and use a bait that must be reeled/twitched in once it hits the water
  16. A Link not to basspro shops but, its a link I posted which has many items on sale right now at basspro shops...
  17. Wave worm tiki stick Kinami senko BPS has a few kits on sale Nortland slurpies work great and BPS has a 44 piece kit of those for ONLY $12.99 The brand name gary yamamoto in my opinion those senkos are too soft eventually tearing, ripping, breaking after a couple of catches
  18. Ah this on and off "warm" weather has been messing with my mind LoL Spring feels to far away and with every other week being warm/seeing openings on local lakes and ponds I have been going crazy... Thanks every one especially dale :-? :'(
  19. Quantum catalyst pti Shimano Aero stradic Diawa SS Tournament series Pflueger Medalist Okuma Inspira
  20. They are on sale now online I order a Diawa rod from them last year, it was packed and in place well... Though my local post office has been pretty disappointingly when it comes to how they ship/take care of their packages... If you haven't received a package that was broke or for that matter the box was ripped or torn (from usps) then ordering a rod from BPS won't be a problem
  21. Braided line 15-20lb Suffix has some new very nice braided line Fireline 20-25lb test
  22. I have several which I don't always use very often but, when I do: (Depending on the conditions) I swim it like a spook walking it back and forth for about 3-6 cycles Short switches one right after another, a quick stop and go pattern Long twitches more like pulls then pausing for a good 3-5 second and then pull again You can also try bending the blades forward a little As I have had my blades forward, back and straight depending on what type of action I am trying to get out of the lure
