Chris Greene can be tough but like Wayne P. said there are a lot of fish in there. I've found that the best time to go is about a half an hour before dusk and fish until about an hour after dark. As far as spots go I would try fishing around the first parking area you get to at the bottom of the hill and also to the left of that that along the trail into the woods. Junebug colored U-Tale worms work fairly well as well as topwaters like Heddon Torpedos.
I live in Warren County. I fish the North and South Fork Shenandoah and Lake Frederick ( ) in my area. I travel to Charlottesville frequently and fish the Rivanna River, Rivanna reservoir and Beaver Creek.
Lake Frederick is definitely tough to fish, i'm there about 4 or 5 times a week bank fishing and most days I go without a bite. I've tried everything from soft plastics to cranks and spinnerbaits and the only luck i've had was by drop shotting some creature baits. Other than that it's usually skunk city
I've caught a snake using just a regular plastic worm. I also pulled in a big mass consisting of sticks, fishing line, sinkers, hooks, half of a fish head and a live catfish!
