  1. Oh boy! Can we get a show of hands for shimano fishermen? me Now how about Diawa fishermen? ;D ;D Cheers!
  2. I wouldn't say it's a must but it helps in certain applications and/or conditions. For instance, having the ability to pick up slack quickly to get a good hookset on a jig fish and pull 'em out of the rockpiles or vegetation is a must in my book esp. if you're in big fish territory. As I said previously, I target the other species in the delta system and having HEG allows me to be able to react to sudden burst when the fish swims towards me or if I'm steering the fish away from structure. I've lost some big fish in the past before upgrading to reels w/ HEG cuz I couldn't keep pressure on 'em and I certainly don't like loosing fish to snags. I do not have big hands and would say that they are more suited for 100 size reels but the bigger size and added weight of the 200's is tolerable for me. If the 100's suits you then by all means. You may also look into other reel manufacturers that provide the curado 200 features that you mentioned but in a smaller package. Cheers!
  3. I target multiple species in the delta system. Excellent waterways for sure. Cheers!
  4. Congrats on the lunker! Thanks for sharing the pic with us. Cheers!
  5. I have a similar situation with a surf rod and was wondering how cost effective it would be to do the replacement myself if I take a guide off a same model rod that also had a "premature" end to its career. After looking at DavidG's link, I came to a conclusion. Replace the rods w/ ones that has guides that holds up to braided line. Since this is a "guide" thread and not meaning to highjack it, what types of guides would you recommend for braided line DavidG? Cheers!
  6. I've owned three 201s cuz they fit the type of fishing that I do. The cal delta holds a variety of gamefish that calls for higher capacity line and the HEG reels. I'm able to target LM, stripers & salmon using these reels. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it depends on what applications you'll be using the reel for and if the bigger size fits your needs. Taking advantage of the rebate program is a smart thing to do since it's a once in a blue moon thing. I know I'm waiting for my rebate check for my 301. Cheers!
  7. A smart man never outfishes their girl especially when their fishing outings are few and far between. Cheers!
  8. Great looking striper! Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
  9. I'm going to up my PB (11#er) and cpr a 13+ LM this year. It's going to happen, yes sir it will! I'm also going to target SM more this year to establish a respectable PB. Good luck to all! Cheers!
  10. I own a pontoon similar to the one pictured. I load mine up pretty good and would estimate that I'm putting at least 250+ lbs on it when I'm out bass fishin'. It is very stable and have fished in rivers and lakes in high wind condition. Been around 2-3' rollers and boat wakes without any problem. I'd recommend purchasing an inflatable pfd that you can wear at all times when on the water. Just in case
  11. Thanks
  12. I'd prefer having 3' or less visibility than having 7' visibility. There is less chances of spooking the fish during my approach and I'd be able to get closer for a more accurate cast. Like you said, relying on their lateral line to attract fish under those conditions play a bigger role. Once you got their attention, then the color selection of your lure steps into play. In addition to "matching the hatch", take into account the bottom composition and color when choosing your lure. Black/blue or black/red color combination for bottom baits are popular because they provide a good color contrast to most lake bottoms. Cheers!
  13. That is about the funniest clip that I've seen in a long time. A little annoying yes, but it was funny to hear arguing going on amongst 3 ladies (snickering like I always do when I hear it during family gatherings). That one click to tightened the drag seem to get the job done. I was expecting a "dink" at the end but was surprised to see a toad. That was a big fish for sure and I felt just as excited from watching the video of their catch. Another big fish cpr'd. Cheers!
  14. Winter here in cali can be considered as a few rain clouds over head w/ 10 mph wind with a wind chill factor of mid to upper 40's . That's cold enough to keep most off the water so it's prime time to fish multiple spots of the lake that aren't being pounded by many anglers. My typical arsenal for winter daytime fishing consists of jigs, creatures & stickbaits. Worked really slow over and accross secondary points and drop-offs. As the sun warms up the upper water column, I move up to the flats w/ deep water access near by and target the more active fish. Night time can be good too. I just upsize my lures to bigger profile jigs and creatures. I like using brass/tungsten & glass combo and rattles to get their attention. Cheers!
  15. Thanks for the welcome and happy holidays to all!
