I take it you have 10 gauge wire coming from the trolling motor? Run the 10 gauge to the breaker and the 6 gauge from there. Unless the breaker is more than 16 feet from the trolling motor the 10 gauge will handle the load fine. If you want to be extra sure mount the breaker within 4 feet of the trolling motor. Get a net and jump in there and grab those hawg's. Just keep trying different baits until the fish tell ya what they want. If they are in the shallows I would start out with some sub surface lures. Flukes, slug-go's, baby 1 minus. Something along those lines.

That may not be true. When was the last time you bought a pair of Tommy Hilfiger jeans and how many pair do you own? Ask that question to your local high school kids. It is actually a slot in the worms body that the hook sets in. So... The worm has a recess (1/8 inch deep) in it's back that is say 1/16 of an inch wide (or the width of a hook) and 3/4 of an inch long. The hook sets in the recess and below the body of the worm. So the hook is still weedless and the hook has less plastic to go through on the hook set. Make sense? I didn't think so. ??? Oh well I tried. :-*

Well that is what really got me thinking about this. I was fishing in an area that was pretty clear and off to the side of me in about 2 feet of water in a small setback(?) I notice a bass cruising around. Well I've got a 3/8 spinner bait tied on and figure "What the heck". I throw the spinner 3-4 feet from the bass and it sinks to the bottom instantly, sure enough though, the bass comes over and noses it. The bass see's a funky looking, shiny, weird colored thinga ma bait lying on the bottom and cruises on... but at least he came over to check it out. Guess I should of had a senko tied on! ;D The bass would of gobbled it up for sure.

How does everyone here feel about making a splash on the cast? Is it bad? Good? Depends on the situation? ??? I am starting to think that it really isn't as bad as most would think. Frogs splash when jumping into water. Locust splash when falling out of trees. Baitfish splash when being chased. Bass splash when attacking those baitfish. I am really starting to wonder if it doesn't get the bass' attention. Now I don't mean tossing a ten pound rock into the water kind of splash but more of a 3/8 spinner bait is not real quite kind of splash. Any thoughts on this?

I do very little river fishing but when I do it seems the LM's like to hold close to structure (rocks, trees, whatever) downstream out of the current. I think it is like RW said Lazy LM's. Waiting in the current break for dinner to come by using as little energy as possible.

Paul Duclos caught that fish. Didn't want to risk killing it by transporting to a certified scale so he had his wife bring out the bathroom scale. Weighed himself and then himself with the fish. I don't know if it was a record or not, but you have to respect the fact that he released a monster fish like that. That is an excellent point. I work late (this post is being made at 4:00 AM) and unless I absolutley have to, I will not venture to Walmart when the sun is out. Between 1am and 4am seem to be the best times to go. Just me, two other night owls, and the employee's.

Yeah, kids are great. I could take them fishing at a farm pond in a field with ONE tree 60 yds behind the pond. You know right where the line is going. : Gotta love em!

As long as you get to go out and spend some time with the family doing something you like. What more could you ask for? I know, for you those darn fish. For me, kids that could keep there lines out of trees so dad could actually fish.

Be patient, Grasshoppa! Wait till you get that drought and the water is only about six inches deep. You should be able to go in there and grab all the fish you want! ;D

If you don't have to worry about the lake freezing over for prolonged periods of time, I wouldn't worry about the dead pads. The live ones will provide plenty of oxygen. Even if you have a freeze over, as long as it doesn't last it shouldn't be a problem.

Not sure where you are but you might need to worry about winter kill. It can be a huge problem in the north. What happens is in the summer you get a huge growth of algae, milfoil, lilly pads, whatever and in the fall it all dies. Winter rolls around and the pond freezes over. Now all these dead plants are at the bottom of the pond sucking up all the oxygen in the water as they decompose. This can be very bad for your fish. My uncle has had a pond for years and never had a problem untill a few years back. Had a HUGE bloom of algae in the summer. When the pond thawed in the spring he had a HUGE bloom of dead fish. I would guess almost every fish in the pond died.

I agree with Glenn. The curly tail grub is a great small water bait. Also, like others said a small spinner baits can be productive. A few years back I bought my first baitcast reel and I was fishing a small lake in a local park. It was getting dark so I decided to head back to the car. Well I made it back faster than I thought I would and figured I would practice casting a small spinner in the river coming from the lake. Sure enough I caught a bass behind a large rock in 2 feet of fast moving water that I never thought would hold bass! It blew me away, but I also learned something about bass and rivers. Good luck and keep at it!

In the middle of summer when it's 85 out and you could not buy a bite in the day. I like to use topwater's. I have had a lot of luck using Strike King 3x craws, fished weightless. They float right on top and drive the bass nuts.
