  1. I have used both the Shooter and the Sniper and for the price difference would prefer the Sniper. It is strong and handles well. Give Sniper a try if you are put off by the price tag of the Shooter. Sniper is just a little bit more than Berkley 100% fluro
  2. I think if you went head to head against a pro without any practice on an unfamiliar lake then you might win one day but where the pro shines is when you do that ten times and they win 8 or 9 out of the 10 times. I have been fortunate to fish with some of the Elite guys and they can process water and information much quicker than a weekend warrior can. There have been a few that have struggled on the "Day on the Lake" articles but most of them catch 15+lbs (some pushing 30lbs) so I would say they catch them pretty good as well.
  3. Crank - I use it on my screens and it really does a good job for me.
  4. I have two of the 6'10" MH spinning rods and love them. Perfect for a shakey head. They are pretty crisp and you have great control over hooked fish. I'd recommend them!
  5. Hmmm I wonder what this will do for the fishing around the first of June. I have been planning a trip there for the past year and hope it isn't too washed out when we get there. Anybody have any experience on KY Lake after a major flood like this? I know it floods similarly to Buggs Island in the springtime but I am wanting to learn more about ledge fishing.
  6. I must be getting the wrong Roboworms because I can tell a noticable difference when I switch from a zoom finesse worm to a 6" straight tail Roboworm. It is much lighter than the finesse worm. RW could you be talking about the 6" Fat Robo?
  7. I have that rod and use it for smaller topwaters an jerkbaits.
  8. Dixon - If you are refering to the KVD Crankbait rod then you have a great rod for shallow to mid depth crankbaits. I absolutely love this rod and use mine to throw primarily shallow flat sided baits, shad raps, and speed traps. You should be very pleased with that rod for crankbaits.
  9. Hickey gets my vote
  10. I have not used the worm rod much but I really like the spinnerbait/crankbait rods
  11. I want to see these guys have to work to catch fish like the rest of us. I don't want to see weights like in Pittsburg but in the same sense I am getting tired of 100lb weights. Show me someone who has to struggle to catch 12-14lbs a day like every "other" lake in America. Thats what I want to see
  12. Kevin Short killed them in one of the recent Day on the Lake articles in Bassmaster.
  13. This is the longest running Senko thread in a long time ;D My vote is definitely for the Senko followed by the Swimbait. Another bait that hasn't been mentioned much is the football head jig. It has opened a bunch of eyes to the different uses for jigs other than flipping them at visable cover.
  14. Fishfordollars - edumacate me- why so small in May and June? (Not that I am questioning what you are saying - I don't pass up a chance to pick the brain of a more experienced angler!) I typically go bigger then when I am keying in on a shad spawn.
  15. I throw a 1/2oz 90% of the time (I down size in the fall to 1/4oz or a similar profile bait). I fish a bunch of clear water lakes (Smith Mountain Lake 8-10' visability and Lake Norman - same visability) and I like the 1/2 oz because I can make long casts and speed the bait up to trigger strikes. In my opinion, the advantages by going up to 1/2 oz would be that it will possibly appeal to larger fish, castability in windy conditions, and triggering ability
  16. I agree with pretty much everything that has been said. You don't have a very big window of opportunity to impress the potential Sponsor with a resume. They are very busy and are most interested in hitting the high points. The main thing that I would suggest is that you need to focus on learning as much as you can about catching the green fish first. Everyone sees sponsors as the cure all to every man's fishing problems but it really detracts from your fishing. They often want you to commit to doing shows and other product demonstrations and it can cut back on your fishing substantially. I fished tournaments for 10 years (BFL's for 5-6 of those years) before I even started actively approaching sponsors and I still question if I rushed things. Your time, especially at your age, would be more valuable if you have the rod in your hand than standing on a showroom floor for a free pack of worms that you won't have as much time to use. For best results you need to have a purpose or goal everytime you hit the water. Make it specific, for instance, you might want to work on cranking. Take nothing but a few cranking rods and a box of crankbaits and learn how to "make" fish bite a crankbait.
  17. Great story and Thank you so much for your service. Glad to hear some positive comments during a time that seems all Doom and Gloom for the sport and industry that I truely love. I have always thought that if we all look at the possitive then we stand a better chance of remaining strong through these times. I believe in the power of positive thinking!
  18. I am needing a co-angler to sign up with. I will be fishing all 5 but signing up for the first 2 in the beginning.
  19. You are going to get the most responses for War Eagle and a good deal of responses for Nichols. I personally, use the Nichols and have been for 10+ years. I have been thinking about using some War Eagle but never have b/c I always had Nichols available at my local store. Both look similar but it seems as if the War Eagle has a thinner wire. Both will catch the ***** out of fish!
  20. Their Wake Up wake bait is good and I like their fluke head for small swimbaits and flukes in the colder months. And of course the Mop Jig. I caught my PB jig fish last year on their 3/4oz Football jig (7lbs 12 oz) and look forward to fishing their Mop Football this summer. They make good stuff from what I've experienced.
  21. My buddy drew out with Terry Scroggins at the recent Okeechobee Bass Open and he said that Scroggins was out casting him by 20 YARDS, not feet, on a carolina rig with identical reels, rod lengths, line weight, and C-rig weight. So apparently they cast well ;D
  22. I use the Quantum Superlite 6'10" MH rod with a sahara 2500 and either 8lb Sunline Sniper FC or 11lb Sunline Defier (awesome line!). 1/8oz Owner head and Zoom Finesse or Trickworm. I have caught some fish on the Speed Craw as well.
  23. I too was looking to change out my unit on my console with an HDS-8 and had heard all of the nightmares with them but, dispite all of that, I was going to purchase it b/c I knew Linda would make it alright in the situation that I got a lemon. Now I don't know what to do. Actually, I do. I think I will send Lowrance an email as well. haha
  24. There are two different situations going on here. You need to look at it that way. There is a competitive fisherman who is sponsored by Ranger and there is a business owner who is trying to put food on the table by selling multiple brands. As long as A doesn't affect B or vice versa, there shouldn't be a problem.
