  1. I use 10 lb. alot, and it is the strongest 10lb mono I've ever used. Great stuff. Lasts a long time, and is cheap.
  2. Berkley Gulp! 3" shrimp in New Penny under an oval Cajun Thunder.
  3. Hi all, Ill be in Gloucester, Massachusetts for 5 weeks this summer and I was wondering if you all would help me form a shopping list of what to get. I currently live in south GA, and use two 7' MH/F spinning setups for all my fishing. I have a bunch of worms, cranks, jigs, etc, the basic stuff and I'm successful with it. I just don't know how much different fishing will be up there. Ill be fishing *most likely* from the bank, theres a slight possibilty ill have a jon boat. The one lake I know ill be fishing,is deep and rocky. I have no idea how deep, but I know its deeper than my GA lake. The water isnt clear, or at least it wasnt, id say its stained. The banks have a few clearing that ill fish most of the time, but there are overhanging trees and i may be in the bushes so i plan on getting a 6' or so rod. First question: I can only afford one rod, so im going to get a spinning rod, in either M, MH, or ML, Fast. Which do you think would be the best for all around MA fishing for bass? Second: I planned on just buying a bag of 194 senkos, a bag of 194 fat ikas, a shallow crank, a deep crank, a 1/4 black/blue jig, a spinnerbait,a topwater plug, smae as id buy for GA. Should i just do that or should I downsize my lures and tackle? Any other northern fishing advice would be helpful.
  4. I take 2. Shimano Clarus 7 MH F Spinning w/ Shimano Sahara 2500 w/ 30lb braid for t-rigs and jigs Ugly Stik with 10lb mono for everything else
  5. never been to LA, but redfishing is my favorite type of fishing! do it every weekend.
  6. I live in Valdosta, GA, but have a house in Keaton Beach. Fish there every weekend.
  7. Now this is my kind of fishing! I fish for trout and reds off Keaton Beach every weekend. First thing to do is to buy a pack of 16 size hooks and catch some pinfish using a tiny piece of chicken gizzard as bait. Then rig a weighted oval Cajun Thunder popping cork tied to about a 30" 20 or 30# fluoro leader. To that tie a 6/0 longshank hook. Hook a pinfish(smaller the better) through the eyesockets and toss him out. Pop the cork once every 15 seconds or so. Once the cork goes under, count one second for every inch of shiner. Then set the hook. Another great way is the exact same thing, except instead of a 6/0 hook, use a 1/16 Saltwater Assassin jighead(reds my favorite) and pt a SWA Slurp/Blurp shrimp in golden bream, drunk monkey, or electric chicken. Fish same way, except set the hook as soon as the cork goes under. Without a cork, I like a 1/8 red SW assassin jighead with a SWA slurp/blurp 4" paddletail shad in golden bream, drunk monkey, or electric chicken. I catch most of my fish around 2 hours before dead high tide. The popping cork rig is made for trout, but works great for reds too. A gold spoon, however, is the king of redfish lures. Use a slow steady retrieve with the rodtip just above the water. When you get a bite, set the hook hard to one side.
  8. Hi all, I was just wondering what is the difference between rods "designed for inshore fishing" and plain ol' bass rods. Like, what is the difference between a GLoomis Greenwater and a GLoomis IMX or something like that, action wise, i know they are completely different rods. Also, theres nothing wrong with using "bass" rods like a Carrot Stik for inshore fishing is there? Thanks
  9. Oh you mean ol' WireIron? Like the others said, garbage. Well, makes great backing.
  10. I like the megaforce! I dont live ANYWHERE near a BPs..so unless i can mail a reel it thats out. Also, something very important i forgot to mention! This reel will be used in saltwater about half the time. Bass and redfish. I REALLY like teh sound of this. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=74090&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults in 5500 size, left hand.
  11. On a tight budget and I need a new reel. I'm looking at these http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_73505_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74545_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_91122_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 Im looking for a good reel in that price range. Would like to spend 50 or less, but can spend 75 i guess. Please let me know what youd buy, you guys know your stuff.
  12. Do you like your Megaforce?
  13. I always tie a uni to uni, but thats only because its easy and ive never really tried anything else.
  14. This is a smart man! PowerPro and Team Fish line.
  15. What about creeks that stop moving and are covered with duckweed? The creek is usually moving, and then i'll throw my all-time favorite lure- a 1/16 white/red Johnson beetlespin, but when it stops like now during this drought and gets covered in muck, I'm not really sure what to throw. I tried a ScumFrog but the water is like numbingly cold..so I didn't get any strikes. What would you guys try?
  16. Thanks for the info Big T! Actually, my dad has a Sahara 4000 on his rod, and he likes it, but I am not a fan of the 6.2:1 gear ratio. Also, the smaller the reel, the better in my opinion. Have you heard anything about the Shimano Sedona 2500? It looks very good to me.
  17. Hi everybody, I've been fishing the flats on the Gulf of Mexico for several years now and have fished for bream my whole life and caught plenty of bass. I have nice graphite rods and Shimano reels for teh flats, but have just used a little 2' 6" pole with a Zebco 33 for the bream and bass. I recently gained access to a nice lake nearby with tons of huge bass in it...and I was interested in getting a nice graphite rod and a nice reel for fishing. What would you guys suggest? These are the rods I am considering: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_97971_100002002_100000000_100002000_100-2-2 I have a friend who uses AllStar rods and hes loves them. http://fish.shimano.com/catalog/fish/products/group_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302036713&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181270&bmUID=1197683056321 Fish these on the flats and they are fantastic...plus they have the lifetime warranty. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=303&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults Have another friend who swears by these...they seem like a good deal but no backbone. I cannot spend more than $75. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=46267&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults 3000 size That is the reel I will most likely get, as I've been using them for years with great luck, but if anyone has any other suggestions I will consider them. I will also be using 8lb dia. PowerPro, for the same reason as the reel. Thanks everyone.
  18. I haven't used the TROPHY series, but I have 2 7' MH moderate Tsunami Classic Series spinning rods and they are among the best rods I own. I love them! You can't go wrong with a Tsunami!
