  1. My wife and I fish the Potty out of a canoe. You just have to stay closer to where you lauch. The bays fish the same whether you're in a canoe or a bass boat.
  2. I thought my etc covered dropshot? Once you locate the brush piles and drop offs, fish them with shakeyheads, tx rigs, jigs, etc. You could even use a heavier carolina rig to make long casts to locate them, AND fish them more thoroughly, especially from the bank. Fishing from the bank can be difficult there as most of the brush piles and some of the drop-offs are a long cast off the bank, but not all.
  3. One, a MH Shimano Clarus, on an 8 inch pike. It wasn't the hookset's problem, it was something wrong with the rod. Also probably my fault.
  4. Strangely enough, some fish do carry over year to year, especially hen we have a cool summer like last year. Try in the stretch in/around Wakefield Park at Braddock and 495. There's panfish in there as well to keep you occupied if the trout aren't around.
  5. Wow, I got deleted too. FISH THE BRUSHPILES OFF DROPOFFS JUST AT THE MOUTHS OF THE SMALL COVES NEAR THE DAM. TO FIND THEM, USE YOUR ELECTRONICS, OR IF YOU"RE SHORE-BOUND, WORK SOMETHING BOTTOM BOUNCING AROUND THE MOUTHS OF THE COVES, AWAY FROM THE BANK Once you locate the brush piles and drop offs, fish them with shakeyheads, tx rigs, jigs, etc. You could even use a heavier carolina rig to make long casts to locate them, AND fish them more thoroughly, especially from the bank. Fishing from the bank can be difficult there as most of the brush piles and some of the drop-offs are a long cast off the bank, but not all. With a boat, it gets considerably easier. Burke is the best lake for numbers of good sized fish in the area, far and away. Now the muskies...those'll drive you nuts. [edit]Sarcastic remarks removed.[/edit]
  6. Also in reference to your question, if you start from the dam and work your way around the area off points and themouths of coves with 10 ft + cranks or slow rolling a heavy spinnerbait, you'll find some deep brushpiles pretty quick. If you don't get bit on the crank/spinnerbait, slow down and work the brushpiles as you bump them with tx rigged plastics or jigs. I've had better luck getting bit on the cranks, but the spinnerbait locates the piles faster without electronics. Also, the spinnerbait always comes back from the brush, which I can't say the same for the cranks. You can also fish spooks or oter topwater early and late over these same areas. Be prepared to hook a musky, or be prepared to lose the spook. Either way, it'll get your heartrate up. Failing that, maybe try a day with Steve, but you'll probably be able to do just as well on your own.
  7. I have 2 of the 7 ft MH 2 piece rods and tehy are just fine, especially at that price point. Mine have lenty of bass and a few nice pike and stripers to their credit and have performed very well. Are they a little heavy? Yes, but with the balancing kit that's not a huge deal. I like their taper as it's stiff enough formost plastics, but also soft enough to work shallower cranks with.
  8. Nice fish and congrats! That river is a great urban(ish) fishery that hardly anyone uses!
  9. It is a common opinion that lots of folks walking around with concealed weapons means accidental discharges all over the place. While it does happen, it is rare compared to the number of folks carrying concealed. A LOT more folks will have one or more accidents with their vehicles (many resulting in injury or death) than firearms owners that carry concealed. When you buy a holster for CC, do you check to make sure your sidearm of choice fits? When you purchase a handgun, do you look down the sights at the counter (hopefully into a "safe" backstop)? My point was that banning carrying loaded handguns is the absolute rule in many gun shops, law enforcement academies, and other places where you run into a large quantity of guns that "should" be unloaded. I don't think alot of CCW holders are idiots (while there are some, you have to admit), but on a whole they're pretty a pretty responsible lot. But accidents do happen, and if you carry a loaded weapon into a store/cleaning room/classroom etc. where people will be handling "unloaded" guns, you introduce the chance, no matter how small, that an accident will happen. Alot more people walking around carrying concealed actually does increase the likelihood that someone will have an AD, just by sheer numbers. It happens at police departments, training academies, ranges and gun shops across the country.
  10. Since they sell guns, they do not want any loaded guns walking around that may possibly be confused with the unloaded ones, or be taken out and tried in holsters that they sell; it's a recipe for disaster. I'm pretty sure they had an accident like that, confusing the gun from the counter with someone's carry, pointing and BANG...hole in the fish tank. I doubt they're anti-CCW, it's just a safety issue.
  11. On the stink; They're machine washable. I have water shoes that will curl your toes; apparently they took that into consideration. I guess for Burley in SW by God VA, machine wash might as well be unicorn wash.
  12. uhhh catch and release vs catch and grease comes to mind.
  13. Fish the Little Pigeon through twon, basically anywhere near a bridge will have some good water. i used to use trick worms rigged weghtless, senkos would get the same effect. Great smallie water, especially for numbers.
  14. I think you answered your own question; no, you couldn't. But, if you'll just give us the exact location, I'm sure one of us can!
  15. My heart goes out to you; we always have to let them go too soon. Nothing like a new puppy to cheer you up when you're ready though.
  16. Tie an overhand knot or two in the braid and then tie your nail knot above that. It'll hold, trim the tag end on the braid to 1/8 inch and you're good to go.
  17. Campbell has had some awful (offal?) lines in front of hi the last couple years and not much to hand the ball off to or throw to, and he's still put up some decent numbers. He's also been jerked around alot, had some wacky personalities with limited talent around him and taken it all in stride. Come to think of it, he'll be right at home on the Raiders.
  18. Moving water or a lake?
  19. I'm having the same problem...My 5 lb fish keep weighing 2.3?!?!
  20. From Dick's, there's a Strike King spinnerbait that's like a house brand for them that's $3 I think, a couple of the 1/4 or 3/8 oz one's in white or white/chartrues or white/gold wil do you well. Get some 4/0 gamakatsu (I use the G-locks) worm hooks, a pack of 1/8 or 1/4 oz worm weights, a bag of berkely powerworms in green pumpkin, red shad or you pick, and some senkos or a yum dingers or Strike king Ochos in a natural color. Maybe a bag of a creature bait (Berkely WOlley Hawgtails come to mind) will covermos things you'd do with a jig. That should keep you under $30. If I were you I'd use the spinnerbaits 90% of the time in various ways, burning near the surface, slow rolling, targeting cover, yo-yo retrieve, etc, and then follow up with the soft plastics in areas where you get strikes or have obvious cover. For someone that's new, that should cover you for a season.
  21. God Bless, Glenn. May you all find peace with the outcome. Greg
  22. I agree 100% with Burley; people have lost any pride and/or care in public presentations of themselves. However, it did take Burley 12 years to figure out the spelling/grammar in forums was isht, so whose education is worse? :-/ :-/
  23. Take Stasher's advice and fish it for a while. Then, when you have some experience, work towards a better outfit that fits what you like to fish. You should just mail me your wallet now for safe keeping.
