You give my wife a decent spinning rod and she will catch the biggest bass that day. Fav lures are a white cavitron in 3/8 or a 1/8 oz gold rooster tail in ‘grasshopper’. She will outfish you with just those two. She tells the bait monkey to stfu and hold. Her. Beer. She is from Chicago and is not to be trifled with.
Mini Slammer - phenomenal bait. Go bigger if you want…7” is great, 9” and larger, also great. Don’t really need Swimbait gear until you’re really in the big ones
I have two that I’ve posted about before:
Fishing right below (and I mean within a few feet) Ft London dam in the slack water well away from fast water from the turbines, fishing towards the corner wall. WHOOOSH it feels like I’ve been shot straight up out of a cannon. I was parked over the outlet for the lock, and they started lowering it. I’m not proud of the noise I made.
Fishing Calderwood Lake in late summer and a horrific thunderstorm rolled through. My line stopped falling to the water and kind of floated/danced in the air, and there was this weird humming coming from the rod. I hauled arse to shore. Pulled the boat up a little and ducked in a small dry cave. I’ve never seen a storm like that that Jim Cantore wasn’t involved in. It lasted about an hour and the temp dropped so much I built a fire in the cave; I was getting dangerously cold.
If you ever think you’re going to take anyone with you, get the Prowler. If not, it’s more of a toss-up related to storage space and how you want to fish. You can arguably cover more ground quicker in a yak, but moving around on a prowler is more convenient and comfortable. People will argue those last two points. ?
They’re both great, just a little different stylistically
The idea and leverage is all the same if it’s 180 lbs and the extra length actually makes it easier. I load from the side not the back because of a rear air foil/high brake light on my 4Runner. I will say if there’s no good handholds it’ll be a huge challenge though. Towels and pool noodles are your friend until you get the process down.
I make a savory oatmeal - Cook it with chicken or beef stock and a healthy dose of black pepper and a little salt and garlic. Add one patty of crumbled sausage (I like Neuse locally) and put a over easy egg on top. It will keep you full for a while. I tell people it’s instant breakfast haggis.
Base + base times height then divide by two for 8 and 9 if I remember right. Basically those shapes equate to a rectangle with the height given and the avg of the top and bottom for the other sides.
12 and 13 are base times height, just like a square. Parallelograms are parallelograms
Not a shocker that the range would be significantly reduced by towing, especially with the base battery. It seemed like every other part of the experience was extremely positive. It’s come a long way since the original Prius and will continue.
I always thought the blue cats in the Potomac were worse than the snakeheads. Those blues would slims up three feet of line and crush any hooks. Both really good eating though!
I like to amaze my wife by listening to Southern accents and telling her what state they’re from. Sometimes I can even call the area of the state. It’s a totally useful skill.
We have a three year old lab and two four year old cats (Bryce Harper and Weeks). Side note - Do NOT let young children name your pets. The dog thinks she’s a cat. The cats do not agree with that assessment. The dog will jump straight up in the air when she sees a robin or squirrel within range. Just about broke my face when I leaned over to pick up a gift on a walk. Head butted me right across the nose. Dogs are great ?
That’s my neck of the woods - I grew up in Fayette County. Used to be the 2nd poorest county in TN - lots of space out there. Should be really great for the area.
I would agree with @Choporoz above, and probably would’ve let him finish in that little cove nugget before going in there. It all depends where you’re fishing. I’m happy to have boats close and I’ll even share baits. If they’re fishing that close I probably know what I’m doing better than they do and use it as a opportunity to teach or share other spots.
