  1. But it may not be in time for the fish to be able to feed again. Given the quality and technology put into the coating on the hooks made these days to keep them from rusting, even the stomach acids wont rust them as quickly. One fish wont kill the whole population, although it will probably shake it free, but don't count on the rusting factor too much. Definitely check your line and knots after each fish, especially if around cover, and the guides on the rod. All good advice to help prevent line breakage and losing lures (they can be expensive!), it'll also help land more fish.
  2. more on the flipping side. If you want a good all around, a 7' baitcasting rod with a med or med-heavy power is good. You can throw a lot of stuff with it. You can still flip and pitch with it and whatever line you use; mono, fluoro, braid (might want to use a leader if in clear water) should handle the weeds well. 10-15lb line would be fine. The lakes that i fish have weeds all over the place as well and my spinning rod with 8lb fluoro has no problems with weeds, although super thick weeds i dont try with my spinning gear, i do get fish that will run straight for it and i still can get them out, it just takes more time and you have to be careful. I know how you feel about being on a budget, I've been saving up for a flippin' stick for a while and i've only got 2 other rods. One finesse rod (spinning), all around (baitcasting), and soon-to-be #3: a macho flippin' rod ;D (baitcasting)
  3. Yup. Flechero makes a good point as to what the characteristics of a flippin' generally are, but of course there are some variations out there as well. Some people like a different action or length but in general the length will be about 7'6"+ and the action mod-fast. It kind of depends on the angler's preference as to how they exactly want the rod to be and its important since you want the rod to be comfortable to fish with as well as right for the application.
  4. A heavy duty rod made for the technique called "flippin'". It is usually paired with a baitcasting reel spooled with heavy duty line (that has limited stretch and is abrasion resistant) like braid or fluorocarbon, which helps get the fish out of the cover and keeps it from breaking off if it were to get caught up in it. The rod also helps keep the fish out of the cover, kind of obvious though, since it it fairly stiff.
  5. Yeah i meant heavy cover. My price range would be up to $500-600 tops. If i can get a really nice rod and reel for a good price, that would be awesome. $1000? Wow that is quite an investment!
  6. What would be a nice setup for flippin'? Price range altogether? Im looking forward to start working on this technique and have been saving up. Thanks in advance!
  7. Thats messed up. Is it legal to keep a 10 inch bass? They call it a big @$$ 10 inch bass too, which is interesting, since there are much bigger bass than that. Maybe a 20lber vs the snakehead? kidding, i wouldnt want to see fish fighting in tanks. Maybe some nature underwater footage a monster bass and a snakehead, but not in a tank. The bass didnt even have a fair chance... I havent heard of any around here, but its interesting.
  8. yes but its not for fishing. hopefully that changes soon.
  9. Even when matching the hatch with schooling baitfish, you want your lure to be the one that gets picked out by the bass. It is usually a benefit to have your bait be a little different, either from the forage, or what everyone else is throwing.
  10. flickshake, hasnt caught on here. people ask: "what is that?" "ummm...an experiment" "is it working?" "nope" (continue walking) dont know how long it'll last...
  11. nor cal. wish i could go to the bigger lakes around here, but need my licence first, then a boat would be nice. lol. i fish smaller lakes (Spring Lake, Ilsanjo, sometimes Ralphine), got a float tube, looking forward to using it. anyone want to let me tag along to the bigger ponds? haha just playing. eventually i'll be able to go to them
  12. also when fighting the fish you could try to not let them jump. when you see or feel the fish going up to jump, get your rod tip down (even into the water) and apply some force. this should help keep the fish from leaping and shaking the hook out. but as said before, check the sharpness of your hook, a dull hook will leave a lot of fish in the water, and not in the boat (or on shore sometimes for me).
  13. I wish i did, but currently my work is just school. Haha you're probably right about the BM, it'll clock in as soon as you get your paycheck. I'm curious too about the discounts part.
  14. Hey thanks, I'll have to go check that out. (I wish i had a cabela's or bass pro shops near me, but internet will do. I'd be like a kid in a candy store )
  15. I've been using Seaguar and P-Line before i saw the Vicious floro. I liked both of them, but my parents dont dig the price as much. ;D Thanks for the replies, i think i will try it out. Less money means more baits! woo!
  16. I saw it at my favorite fishing store (hehehe) and wondered if anyone has used it before? I was looking at the floro because it was only like $10, compared to the other brands ,like Seaguar, that are about $20. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.
  17. Largemouth: wacky rigged purple storm rattle finesse worm. 8lber
  18. the more variety you have the more you realize you need another rod for each technique! ;D Eventually until you get to the point where you are dead broke and you have one rod and reel setup for each lure and technique possible. As of right now, i have 1 bc and 2 spin. bc for heavier stuff and 1 spinner for medium stuff, and the last spinner for finesse and light lures. I really like bc's so i am saving up for another one that casts like the spinner for the medium stuff.
  19. bought these last year but still havent tried them yet. I plan to this year eventually...
  20. 60 degree eye and its closer to the ball weight. Amazing isnt it? So worth the extra money... lol
  21. everybody is catchin bigger ones. Too bad the lake i fish doesnt have many... well heres mine: 2lber...i know its gargantuan! lol count it for cali though! hope someone from one of the big fish lakes can add a beastly fish for california.
  22. thanks man. 50 and 50 looks good i think. Hope it comes out good in the post.
  23. uhh i dont know how to post a pic... never done it. I tried doing the attachment thing but the pics are all too big in file size. Help? Thanks guys
  24. i got 10 today for cali and my buddy got 6. One problem we didnt get a pic of every fish... i have 9 pics and he has 2. Does that only count as eleven? If they have to be hawgs, count these out, only 1-2lb range. lol I dont understand.
