  5. Shell or sticks. You can find them either with your electronics (if you have good ones) or with a heavy trap. A heavy trap will also find submerged hydrilla or eel grass. 2 winners this time of year.
  6. I love them, especially the golden shiner. You can cast them a mile and the finish is durable. I have one tied on now that probably has several thousand casts on it.
  7. 7 ft hvy is fine. Cast them out into the grass, pads or down the boat trails. Rod at 10 oclock med to fast retrieve, just keep the frog on the surface. When you see the strike, wait, wait and wait, reel down and set the hook, hard.
  8. Bring frogs and a bunch of them. Personally I like the Gambler Cane Toad, in Lane toad color, but any buzz frog should produce some nice fish. Up shallow in the kissimmee grass. 7'6' MH, high speed reel, 65 lb power pro and zoom toad hooks.
  9. I was corresponding with Roger every week or so until about this time last year. I know he was building a new house in Lake Wales and I lost contact with him about the time he was supposed to move. I also hope that all is well with him.
  10. North Dakota, no, South Dakota, no, Vermont.
  11. The bay boat will be fine on Toho. As far as spawning goes, they have been at it off and on since January. It really has a lot to do with the full moon, (which is this weekend) and the water temperatures. If the weather stays warm like now I would shoot for post spawn tactics. Deep Kissimmee grass with either a frog during the morning or cloudy and flipping a junbug creature bait on the outside lines during the rest of the time.
  12. For the last 3 months, big bags have been coming out of Toho after cold fronts ripping a rattle trap thru the deep hydrilla. PM me around the 1st. I am fishing out of Camp Mack on the 29th so I should have some current info.
  13. I came to Florida in 1987 to work for the US Army Corps of Engineers. 4 years of that and then 5 years with a private engineering company and owner/bottle washer of a construction company since then. Up until last year I loved it and made lots of money. This year, not so much.
  14. Sent with screen name in the title.
  15. Bobby Lane. Being a local guy, I see him in small tournaments several times a year and he is very personable and talks to everyone like he is just one of the guys.
  16. I am headed out to the South Chain on Friday. If anyone wants to join me send a PM with your number. I will probably put in either Lake Shipp or Lake Summit around 8 am
  17. There is something new called the GPIRB. Not only does it broadcast a beacon it transmits your gps coordinates to the USCG. These guys made a bunch of mistakes that caused this tragedy. Small boat, knowing a front is on the way, going out 35+ miles.
  18. I have been hanging around for a while now and I have noticed a few things. Newbies, which I still consider myself compared to many of you, often ask about junk lures and other "stuff" that constantly bombards us on Saturday morning TV. These questions are usually met with posts about how bad this stuff is and how many times it has been discussed then a curt reply to "search" and you will find out all about them. This is followed by a moderator with polite instructions to search and then the thread is closed. My problem is with the search function itself. While it may be a piece of cake for you computer savy members, it is not at all user friendly to those of us with limited computer skills. I still have problems finding information using the search function. Lastly, I wonder how many things other than "junk lures" have been discussed in hundreds of threads without being closed. I would imagine that nearly every topic is a repeat of something that has been discussed in detail in the past. This might just be a rant on my part to be ignored, or maybe an opportunity to examine how to treat these threads in the future.
  19. I would like to say that those were teeth marks but... they are not. They are battle scars though. I took it out 3 times in the midst of the barrage of cold fronts and bounced it off of every piece of cover in Lake Kissimmee with no bites. I think I have beat the zeros out of it. You guys can now catch all the big ones.
  20. We tied for last... There were two big bags of the day. One came out of lake Winterset and the other out of Lake Jesse. We were in Lake Mirror and Lake Spring. Several fish over 8 lbs were weighed in but not by us. We caught several on frogs and one small one off a bed with a black trick worm. Nasty, you should try Winterset if you get a chance this week. They were caught flipping the outside edges of vegetation.

I saw this thread in Dec and did some research. Then I forgot about it with the holidays and all. Last weekend my 12 year old and I were looking for something to do together that did not involve fishing and I stumbled across my notes from December. So we dug out my old garmin 76, put in some new batteries and off we went. Now my wife and daughter are hooked. This is a fun activity for the whole family.
  22. Thanks Dave. Crayon Physics is one of my favorites. I can't wait to try this one.
  23. Mom's bait and tackle, about 5 miles away. Metal building, no AC, dark and dusty with every soft plastic known to man.
  24. Yes we do. It is called "Northeast Bass Fishing." ;D
