  1. That's just how it's been lately. The only big fish I have heard of in the past month was a 12 lber out of a private lake in Haines City. It should get better in the next month. How was the clarity, temp, ect?
  2. Mid south is going to be cold in March, but this is a place we stay when leave Fl. http://www.highlandmarina.com/ If you want to come to central Fl then you have a chance at better weather and plenty of on the lakes to stay.
  3. It was closed on May 17 and is scheduled to be closed until Dec 31. If you are prefishing on Friday and get stumped, call me.
  4. I just did mine last weekend. I have to tighten several every few months of rough water. Start with the one that is sticking out, pry the rub rail out with a flat screwdriver and expose several screws. tighten these (I use a cordless drill) and pop the rail back in the channel with your hand or a rubber mallet as you pull more out. It will only take you about 15 min to do the whole boat.
  5. I have not been on Toho in about 3 months. The lock has been closed for repair and I normally put in on Kissimmee. I would fish the frog in the morning and switch to a worm on the outside edge of the submerged hydrilla later in the day. If that doesn't do it, then I would crank a firetiger 8a on the ledges up by Big Toho or the shell bar outside of Shingle Creek. Good luck Rob and let me know how you do.
  6. It's frog time!
  7. Etec and Stabil for the corn flavored gasoline. And only burn the high octane.
  8. Get your carb cleaned. Your prop has to be badly damaged to shake the motor.
  9. skinny dipper in dirty sanchez or brown swim jig with a green pumpkin trailer
  10. Kissimmee Honky Ridge Ford Country Jacks Slough Philly Point Sticks A Frame Overstreet Cow Bridge
  11. yep, but then I make another cast. You just have streaks where things don't always go your way. Two weeks ago I was on the St Johns river, hit a wake wrong, rod saver pops open and out bounces a Fenwick with a new Revo Sx on it. Good bye 300 dollars.
  12. In Florida it is TOAD season.
  13. I always prefish with google earth on every lake I fish. Even ones I have been to many times. We also have a WaterAtlas for the lakes in central fl. They are not great topo maps but it will get you in the general vicinity.
  14. Water temp in the low 80's, wind has been blowing from the east for about a week. I have been fishing in the smaller lakes in Polk. The bite has been offshore in 4-6 ft on the sumberged grass lines.
  15. Tim Fey's reports are right on. Although he usually fishes Johns Lake and the Conway Chain. If you want to stay on the water, then I would vote for Camp Mack. Kissimmee, Hatch, Cypress, Toho all within 20 minutes of the ramp. campmack.com The only problem is when the weather is up, fishing on the chain can be tough. If you are staying off the water then look for something in the Lake Wales area. That put's the K chain, Winterhaven chain, Crooked Lake, Istokpoga, Stick Marsh and several HUNDRED other smaller lakes in play. Depending of cold fronts and wind direction, I can point you in at least a safe and comfortable direction. PM me a couple of weeks out with your location and what lakes you want to fish. I don't get out as much as I want but I have a lot of friends that get me good info. PS Plan on several back up lakes. Some the my most miserable moments in life involve Toho in January.
  16. My old man just bought his "retirement home" in Mountain City GA. Just south of the NC border and north of Lake Burton. It is really two, 2 bed, one bath apartments in one house. He would like to generate some revenue to offset the cost of the place while he still lives here. He would prefer not to rent to the "general public" or put a long term tenant in the place. FYI the temps last week were low 60's to low 80's . He called me from the porch up there last week just to irritate me. The 1400 sf upstairs will be available to rent by the end of September and the 1200 sf downstairs shortly thereafter. Discounted rates to the forum members. The price schedule has not been set yet but it will probably be in the 250-300 per 3 day weekend and 500 or so for the week. It depends on the interest we can drum up from somewhere other than the general public. I'm not looking for any commitments yet but would like to gauge the amount of interest from you guys.
  17. learn to say no to the monkey.
  18. Capt Tim Fey Johns Lake is a quick ride down the turnpike from Ocala and there is an off ramp about 2 miles from the boat ramp http://www.bassfishingfl.com/
  19. Usually where you find the Chain Pickerel you will find bass.
  20. Like most lakes in Polk, it is down. Very little shoreline cover. I have had the most luck with a silver rattle trap out in the deeper parts of the lake. There were some brush piles on the south end of the lake that have produced a few fish. If you are going to be in Orlando, then I would fish Toho out of the city ramp and fish outside hydrila lines in 8-10 ft with a big worm. Much better shot at good fish than Agnes. You could also fish Johns Lake in Clermont. If you decide on Johns or Toho send me a PM and I will send you some maps.
  21. Thanks guys Flyboy - we stopped in and toured the place last weekend on the way back from Daytona. The cabins are as nice as Camp Mack/Grape Hammock. 1 bed to 4 beds with several on/over the water. Mostly 2 bedroom in the $115 per night range. The have a large full hookup campground with a nice bathhouse for around $35 a night. We have an RV so to save money I am going to pull it and Nicole will pull the boat. They have a swimming pool and basketball court. Many covered boat slips for rent at 5 bucks a day. 1 small single lane boat ramp. They don't have tourneys out of there so that should be fine. It is surrounded by a state park and is in downtown nowhere. My favorite place. They have many full time (experienced :) residents which as you know are better than dobermans for security. Overall impression. Very clean, well kept, family oriented. I got a really good vibe talking to Troy, who was running the place Sunday. A full report will be posted when we get back.
  22. The family is going to Parramores Fish Camp on the St Johns river for the Labor Day Weekend. We have never been there and was looking for any advice for Lake George or Lake Dexter.
  23. Central Fl 105-110 heat index + 90 degree water + shallow FL lakes = boat in the backyard and me in the lazyboy
  24. You need to place them in locations where the fish already are. Bends, creek channel mouths, just outside of spawning flats, outside of drop offs. IMO, brush piles are more effective at congregating fish in an area than drawing fish to a new area.
  25. Size is mostly offshore by now. If you have deep water brushpiles, then you are golden. If not, then you catch little ones like me. :-/
