There is no finesse fishing on Toho.
If you want any shot at winning you better start practicing your pitching. If your pro sets up on a bed for an hour, you need to be pitching a Texas rigged black/blue something into every baseball size hole in the Kissimmee grass you can get to. You are only allowed 3 fish and you will need 15 lbs a day to compete. The only way to get that from the back of a boat is to pitch.
3/4 oz or heavier on a heavy rod with 65 lb braid.
You're going to be there a week after the full moon. I would plan on targeting staging fish. Skinny Dipper, toad, and an Ugly otter/ Mega bug for pitching. I guarantee those three will pick up good fish your pro misses.
Bitters is better, and cheaper. http://www.bittersbaitandtackle.com/
<<<<<<<<<<<< Taylor caught that one flippin
I use it texas rigged with a 1/8 oz tungsten and a bobber stop. That's just enough weight to make the tail work on the fall. It is my go to bait on tough days just slowly bouncing it along the bottom.
I'm always looking for someone to fish with. This time of year with the cold and wind my girls don't fish much. It is usually short notice though.
In the next few months I will be on Pierce, Kissimmee and Istokpoga practicing for tournaments if you want to tag along.
Basically it was an alcohol based decision to go for a boat ride across a stump filled shallow lake at 1 am. I am sorry for their families.
But my grandfather always said you better be tough if you're gonna be stupid. Obviously they were not that tough.
It's a 4000 acre bowl of chocolate milk named Pierce just northeast of Lake Wales. I have spent 3 days on it this year with a grand total of 3 fish. If I did not need the points for the AOY competition I would not EVER fish it again.
Ain't that the truth.
I started fishing tournaments in a 17' Triton tin with a 75. Now I fish out of a TR20x2 glass with a 250. There are times when I miss the tin but for safety and comfort I stay in the big boat.
Johns Lake in Clermont would be my first choice. We could fish the Winter Haven chain twice a year. Kissimmee (south end) out of Grape Hammock or the new county ramp.
I have a 101 lb 36 volt tm on my Triton. If they made a 145 lb 48 volt tm I would find a way to put it on the boat.
If you just fish for fun then it probably does not matter much. If you fish tournaments like I do, then it probably does not matter either, I just think it does.
Always go with the variable speed.
Welcome to Florida winter fun.
warm and stable weather for several days equals good fishing.
a cold front passing through like the one last night equals several days of horrible fishing.
I don't go back to work until Wednesday, but I will not even bother to fish until Tuesday.
Also afternoons are usually better due to the water temps warming throughout the day. You need to look for 65 degrees and rising.
