  1. That's a good start. That should charge your 27 in 4-5 hours.
  2. I saw Wayne Yohn weigh a 14 pounder out of Kissimmee a couple of years ago. So at least we have the genetic pool to compete.
  3. I have rods up to 8' with most over 7-6. If you only have a few in the box it's not a problem. With a full box the tips come out of the tubes and get tangled and bend or break the guides. Plus with tubes you are limited to 12. Using socks with out tubes, eliminates both problems. On a tournament day, I have as many as 14 in the box.
  4. At least you are catching good ones Roger, Nicole and I have been catching a lot of fish but nothing over 4.
  5. I would say you have a problem with the charger. I use a lot of traveller products but have never used that charger. The everstart batteries are the best. I have 3 series 29s in my current boat and have used nothing but Everstart for the last 10 years. I am a heavy duty tourney fisherman and use them 100 to 150 times a year. If you keep it charged properly, it should last over 250 cycles. (fully charged to expended to fully charged again is 1 cycle)
  6. If Wayne does not get you covered, I would go with the 6' Berkely Lightning rod in Medium. It may be a little long for him today, but unless he is a hobbit, he will grow into it shortly and can use it for years to come.
  7. It sounds like the charger or gauge may have some issues. Like I said, it does not know the percentage of charge, regardless of what it says on the display, it only knows the amps being drawn. In theory the less amps drawn, the closer to fully charged. Some of the cheaper chargers don't meter and reduce the amperage as the battery charges, so be careful not to cook the battery.
  8. Where are you getting the "60 %" number from? Your charger will not know the percentage of charge, only the amount of amps drawing. Also, you should check the water level in the battery. If you have a volt meter, put in on the 20 volt DC setting and check the voltage. A fully charged battery will show 13.2 volts or so. FWIW - most auto parts places have a 12 amp charger for around $50 that has a gauge that shows the amount of amps being drawn. A fully charged battery should draw less than an amp. Knowing for sure that your battery is fully charged will save you some headache on the water in the future. Also remember the charge it fully every time you use it.
  9. 90% of all rods that are used regularly will eventually be broken no matter the precautions taken. And it is usually your favorite one.
  10. Yep, I ditched the factory built. They don't work well with long rods and I had problems in a previous boat with them.
  11. It depends on the amperage of your charger and the size of your battery. I have a 15 amp per bank charger. That will take a 50% group 29 battery back to fully charged in about 6 hours.
  12. Nice work Chris. I ditched my factory tubes. Tubes and guides don't play well together. The butt end holder and rod socks is all I use now.
  13. I have broken 3 rods since Christmas. 1 on a toad hookset, 1 in a rod locker accident, and 1 on the deck. If you don't want to break it, don't use it.
  14. I have the 20X2. Without the tubes I can put my 8' rods in the locker.
  15. This is what I have and I took the sleeves out of the front. I use rod socks and can hold up to 12 rods with no problems.
  16. Mostly the moon. Free range cattle are very similar to other wild animals. If the weather is normal and stable, the moon has the biggest effect on feeding times. Lake Kissimmee is completely surrounded by the largest cattle ranch in the US. If you are near the shore on the 35K acre lake you can see cows. If they are laying down, it is going to be a long day.
  17. Brakes, Brakes, and more Brakes... You might want to look into a transmission cooler if your going to pull it far.
  18. Your grandmother is a smart woman.
  19. That was sarcasm from the "Squirrel". He was not serious. I have watched the extended cast on all of them so far. Watching how they make decisions has been the best part. They are on camera so much that you really get to see the thought process behind the decisions.
  20. Nope, I searched for it for an hour and can't find it.
  21. NO FLUORO. 65 lb Braid only. 4/0 superline EWG hook and peg the weight if you are punching t-rig.
  22. 11-8 I saw a 14 pounder weighed a few years ago. She was not much bigger than your girl.
  23. I take a lot of noobs fishing and wind up with a lot of gut hooked fish on my boat every year. I have not lost a fish since I started using this technique to remove them. Learn it and teach it.
  24. weightless fluke. Deadly this time of year, particularly over hydrilla. Fish it with 50 lb braid and a mh rod. You will need some backbone to get them out of the salad
  25. That's always been available for the 5 year license. I'm on my second one now.
