  1. Where is this broadcasted from? Is it on the Outdoor Network like the regular MLF is?
  2. Watched Saturday's show. Tough day for those competitors for sure. They did get some nice bass, but very few of them. I still enjoyed watching.
  3. I haven't heard anything about it either. When the 2018 season ended, I just stopped watching for it. What exactly is "new" about it? I watched the opener on Saturday and it appeared the same as usual.
  4. Last year we had a major snowstorm on March 1st.. I think I'll wait until the time gets a little closer.
  5. Not being a great fly fisherman, I can only attest to the effectiveness of black bucktail 1/16 oz. jigs. For sure, any fly with bucktail should produce well for you.
  6. So many variables! That's like saying...."I'm going fishing today, how do I catch 'em?" No one can answer that question, or even suggest somewhere to start, without knowing much more about the waters you are fishing, the forage base, type of lake, clarity of the water, species you are targeting and what kind of fishing you typically do, i.e.: boat fishing, trolling, deep water targets, shallow water targets, what kinds of presentations you've used in the past, etc., etc.. Sorry for not being very much help.
  7. Take a look at the Crestliner lineup of open "Canadian" style tiller boats. One in the 16' - 18' range will suit you just fine and won't break the bank. These boats are the widest on the market, have plenty of room and are extremely stable crafts. Best part is, being open like that allows you can customize them to suit your needs. Also, a lot has to do with your budget restraints as well.
  8. Yeah, I've been a big fan and follower (as many of you already know) of Buck Perry, since the 1960's. And I use to buy Bill Binkleman jigs as well. Brings back some very fond memories for sure. The 60's thru the mid 80's were truly the time of pioneer fishing. I don't think anyone gives ample credit to those folks, especially Bill. I have all of his "Blue Book" series too. Priceless!
  9. A reversed rigged Hula Grub is essential in my arsenal. Haven't tried the Nikko yet though. Something to look forward to doing this spring.
  10. Back a few years when they were still publishing, I subscribed for a year. Unfortunately, this newer version of the old couldn't hold a candle to what it use to be. The writers were redundant and not very well written. Probably why it finally collapsed into oblivion.
  11. You will NOT regret it!
  12. I can't wait! I absolutely love that show.
  13. If you switch over to a single InLine hook, such as what VMC offers, you won't have this problem. It's getting the right size for the lure that you have experiment with. And, regardless of what some folks may tell you - or what you may believe - your hook up ratio will not be negatively impacted. Less potential damage to the fish and the fisherman! I even crimp down the barbs to no ill effect. Been doing this now for 3 seasons on all my blade baits, spoons and crankbaits. It works.
  14. I've been casting heavy swimbaits for about 3 decades now with my Ambassadeur 6500C. Using 25# test mono to throw 2 - 4 oz. baits on a musky bucktail rod. No problems, no worries. For you folks that do not like "round" reels, I'm curious as to the reasons why? I've fished with a lot of folks that don't use them either - yet, they never seem to be able to do anything with those (much more expensive) rigs, that I cannot do. Just curious is all.
  15. Yeah, but why not put something in print which would benefit all those newbies coming up the ranks? And for posterity! I think you should go for it.
  16. Got my start with smallies and Mr. Twister 3" grubs on a plain ole' 1/8 oz. ball head jig. Caught tons of big smallies on those great lures.
  17. Thanks A-Jay. I have been around the block a time or two for sure! But you guys have covered it all pretty well. Great job. What you need to do now is to find a publisher and co-ordinate a book writing. Guaranteed it'll become a best seller.
  18. Totally insane! Imagine the sonar unit you get with that kind of cash! But I'm sure they'll sell one or two.
  19. Incredible amount of golden information. Thanks!
  20. Interesting subject for sure. My .02 = I'd target known good structures (that seem to always have bait on them) and plan on spending several hours each NIGHT, 2 days before and 2 days after a new, or full moon period. I'd be tossing a musky sized black Jitterbug (on substantial equipment). Eventually, if there are any 9 pounders in the water you are targeting, you will get bit. But, you're also going to get bit by a lot of smaller bass as well. JMO.
  21. Not sure why you would want to design a "new" lure in the first place. Lures are just tools....to allow you depth & speed controls. Placed in the appropriate location, everything/anything you already have in your "tool box" will allow you to accomplish those goals. That being said, the only other logical reason for wanting a "new" design, is more probably to make a buck!
  22. Use a 50/50 mixture of vinegar & water.
  23. Back in the early 70's, I received "The Big Book of Fishing" from Lindy/Little Joe. I still have remnants of that much used paper back book, in which Al Lindner designed and advocated the use of spinnerbaits for bass. Not sure of how many of the previously cited pros wrote about this great fishing lure back then, but I'm sure happy that Al did.
  24. Looks pretty organized to me! ?
