  1. You have to work with the weakest link of your setup. If you're fishing high test braid with thin hooks then the hook may be the weakest link. You can't just assume that you're line is the only thing that will break. If you upgrade to a heavy wire hook and use high test braid then you're UL rod will become the weakest link and you can easily break it. Also, it could've easily been a catfish and not a bass.
  2. Depends on where I'm fishing. If I can park close and/or there aren't any other people then I'll bring a backpack tacklebag and 4 rods. I'll typically carry just one or two and leave the others in the car or on the ground. If it's a public place where I have to walk far then I'll carry 2 rods and a smaller amount of tackle.
  3. Just bought 24 jigs (variety of types and sizes) for $56, with free shipping. A $2.30 average per jig for wire tied makes me less angry when I lose at least handful of them per trip. Trying the mop, brush, and bullet ones this order. If they're as good as the rest then I'll have to give him another $50 (at least).
  4. As stated earlier, I have no comment.
  5. It's still big enough for you to ride. They just lied about the actual size and deliberately made it appear bigger than it is. As for dreams of riding a pig. I'm going to with hold my comments.
  6. You can see that his arms are resting on his knee and not the pig. If he was leaning on the pig he wouldn't be able to have his knee the way that it is and you wouldn't be able to see it. Check his left elbow.
  7. Did a bit of looking over lunch. The kid is standing way behind the pig. Estimates are 5-10 feet behind it. That makes him look smaller and the kid bigger (same as holding a fish as far away from your body, and as close to the camera as possible). The pig was actually raised on a farm and sold to a game preserve 4 days before the kid hunted and killed it.
  8. The tiny paca works well too. I think (not a scientific fact) that the rage products are more durable than the paca stuff is. The claws seem to stay on longer. I prefer the action on the rage stuff too.
  9. These are high action trailers. All of the rage stuff that I've used has been great. Caught my PB on a widegap jig with a rage craw (not baby) trailer. The baby craw works great on the smaller sized finesse jigs.
  10. Hasn't that been proven to be a fake? My question on that hog show is that where do they put these feral hogs after they trap them? Why don't they just kill them and be done with it? Seems strange to put yourself in danger trapping them and then releasing them somewhere else.
  11. Well have you asked them if they'd like to sit in a boat for eight hours fishing for one big fish? Do you think they would enjoy a full day of trophy bass hunting without a single bite? You're asking us fishermen if we'd like to look like those guys. Maybe if I could take a magic pill and presto chango look like that then I'd say yes, but I've got three kids and a wife that I like to spend time with. I ain't got the time to even consider working out as fanatically as would be required to look like that. So, the answer is and always be no, I dont' want to look like those guys. I don't want to have my meals planned out to the calorie, I don't want to take tons of supplements (both legal and not), I dont' want to spend hours in the gym each day.
  12. I'm not really sure what you expected here. Bodybuilding to the level that these guys take it involves an INCREDIBLY small group of people and an incredible amount of effort. As such, the majority won't ever understand it. You seem pretty comfortable with your path and know that it is one that is "out of the box" so I don't really understand why you're surprised when you get the reaction from the "normal" people that you do. I'd bet that if you went on your bodybuilding forums and talked about stalking one single giant bass for an entire day and not getting a single bite they'd think you were crazy. To each their own, seems to be very fitting here.
  13. Then I'll give you another piece of advice. Find a new doc. This one is either dumb or you're not telling the whole story.
  14. See my sig or click here Gman's jigs
  15. I haven't used any of the non-toxic jigs, but GMAN's regular jigs are top notch and the only ones that I buy. Great service at the best price that I've seen anywhere.
  16. Yeah, I remember this. Punch a wall Hurt your hand Post to a fishing website for possible diagnosis Complain that it hurts Receive good advice on what to do Ignore advice Complain that it hurts Repeat until it "feels better" And now you've asked for advice again Received good advice And ignored it again Somehow I'm not surprised. Here's another piece of advice. You're not a professional bass fisherman and you don't have a family relying on your income to pay rent/food/etc. Stop taking the tourneys so seriously and worry about what really matters, your long term health.
  17. Yep. I view the ringing phone as a request that someone wants to talk to me. Many times I simply ignore the call. If I'm fishing and anyone calls I simply ignore it. If they leave a voicemail, I'll check it to see if it was an emergency. I never answer the phone while out to eat. Simply rude. But this has nothing to do with the device and everything to do with the person holding it. If your friend went out to eat with you and spent all of his time talking on the phone then the problem lies with your friend and not the phone.
  18. My parents were called numerous times at home for some work related issue or other. I know you've lived through this time so I'm thinking you may be looking back with rose colored glasses. The only difference now is the ease with which you can be contacted. People were definitely contacted prior to the advent of cell phones.
  19. Then he can send his iphone to me. I'd like to get the new version. I love the 3gs that I have. I have zero complaints with it.
  20. I wonder what you consider a "goof craw imitator"? The only thing close would be the Huddlebug, but it just looks like a craw. Doesn't swim like one.
  21. I was just there a couple of weeks ago. Drove down to see how high the river was. It was big then and now it's out of control! The sheer amount of water that's in the Mississippi now is amazing.
  22. The hook will not rust away, the bass' enzymes will not effect it either. Use the through the gill technique and get the hook out of the fish. Only leave it if you can NOT get the hook out through the gill. And if you do leave it know that that fish will likely die. Some survive for a long time with hooks in them, but they are negatively affected by the presence of the hook.
  23. Probably. Some of mattlure's posts have senkosam's posts quoted, so it looks like he deleted them.
  24. I wish senkosam's replies were still there. Looks like I missed out on his side of the argument. In "normal" bass fishing (just out fishing for fun) then I wouldn't be too concerned with "matching the hatch". You can catch bass on pretty much anything. They aren't too bright. Trophy hunting, however, is a completely different story. These are the fish geniuses. They have survived by being picky and being able to resist fishermen's lures. To catch these beasts consistently (you can always luck into one here and there) you have to be as perfect as possible and that includes using baits that provide little to no negative cues and presenting those baits properly in locations where the big girls live. In summary, the everyday fisherman shouldn't worry too much about it. The trophy hunter though should.
  25. People who live in CA have to pay sales tax on *** orders. This has nothing to do with store policy and everything to do with state laws. Don't like that a store is charging you sales tax? Go complain to your state gov't.
