  1. What would these factors be? I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but I don't get why you would want to tighten down your drag or loosen it while you are fighting a fish. Setting the drag once at its optimal setting should be enough, but I most certainly do not know everything (or maybe even half of everything).
  2. An honest question, but why would you want to do that? Shouldn't you set your drag to roughly 1/3 of the rated strength of your line and then not change it? If you are changing it throughout the day how would you know if you set it too tight?
  3. Since you were 6?!?! You're dad must have a heck of a lot of good fishing tackle if you were using a rod like that at 6 years old. I must've been deprived when I was a kid, I only got to use a Zebco with a worm and a bobber!
  4. See bmadd's post. There is only ONE way to make a Chicago style dog. Any variation in cooking method or condiments and it is no longer a Chicago style hot dog. It becomes just a regular hot dog.
  5. Because they taste GOOOOODDDD!!!!
  6. It's illegal for union truckers to strike. Also, a strike is absolutely pointless as it will do nothing about the fuel prices and will only cost the truckers money in lost wages/revenues. As far as I know, these truckers get paid a fuel surcharge that is variable based upon the average diesel cost. At least, that's how it works in my industry (intermodal and otr transportation).
  7. Sometimes one can miss the obvious even when it is staring them in the face. I didn't even consider spinning rods. :-[
  8. Only place I have seen it is Cabella's. Here ya go... http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0030185119277a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=yo+zuri+ultra+soft&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=yo+zuri+ultra+soft&noImage=0 The Gander Mountain by me carries Ultra Soft. Not a very good selection as they are typically sold out, but they do have it.
  9. On the Bass Pro show he said "Heavy action". Does this mean heavy power or extra fast action? Van Dam also said that he used a medium action rod on the Bass Pro show too. Is that moderate action, medium power? I hate it when people on TV shows use this type of terminology. How am I supposed to translate it into an actual setup. Maybe the online interview clears this up, but the TV show definately left me scratching my head. If Clunn is talking heavy power then he must never fish a dropshot, shakey head, small crankbaits, weightless plastics, or any other finesse technique (1/4 oz weights or less). How would he cast them?
  10. That's not a new policy. If you don't have the receipt for the purchase then how is BPS supposed to know what you paid for it? Seems perfectly reasonable to me. Now the quality issues would be legitimate.
  11. Good advice!! I do not necessarily find that snaps/speed clips save me a lot of time. I am still retieing regularly. However, the use of the snap has been shown to allow the crankbait to have more action. In my opinion, this is the main purpose of using a snap.
  12. You should be just fine with your standard mono for throwing DT's. They aren't that big. I'm currently using 10lb mono on my cranking rod (am considering switching it up to 12 lb though). I used to use the clinch too, but have since moved onto the palomar. It seems to be superior in all the tests that I have seen. Don't use snap swivels with cranks. I use the Norman speed clips but Duolock snaps (no swivel) are good too. To the guy who broke a couple DT's, that was a problem reported with some of the older versions. The new ones should not have the same issue. Also, how difficult is it to pick the weeds off with your hands?
  13. I have been convinced here that the palomar knot is the best knot to use in all applications. The one caveat is that I use a snap when tieing on a crankbait.
  14. Didn't the Megastrick guy say that the skirts are done that way on purpose? Something about the skirt being "wasted" where it sits under the fulcrum. Also, I think they upped the thickness of the weed guard strands. If I could figure out how to effectively search this site I'd try to find the thread. Maybe someone else could.
  15. Dick's is good for their deals!! Their selection isn't the greatest but you can get some good stuff cheap. Over lunch I got 2 jitterbugs, a spook, 2 midnight spinnerbaits and a sub walk for 20.41. Rapala's and strike kings were 20% and I had a 20% off coupon. That gave me 40% off the spinnerbaits and sub walk!
  16. Here's how I see it. Too many bluegill lead to stunted bluegill which keeps them the right size for the big bass to eat. This will make the big bass bigger. However, all of these bluegills are going to do their best to eat every single egg and bass fry from each bass spawn so your recruitment (new bass) every year is going to be very small. Your experiences seem to back this up (lesser numbers of bass, but they are large and healthy). If this continues those big bass will likely start dieing of old age or for whatever other reason and with limited recruitment you will not have any bass to replace those that are dieing. Disclaimer: I am NOT a fisheries biologist, but I have stayed at a Holiday In Express. Anyways, per the Illinois fisheries management tips one should harvest 50-70 lbs per acre per year of bluegill to keep their population in check. Given that your bluegill are overpopulated I would go for the 70 lbs and at a 3 acre pond you should harvest about 210 lbs this year. http://www.ifishillinois.org/programs/Lake_Plant/Tips%20for%20Pond%20Mgmt.pdf Other things to consider for bass recruitment is the availability of deep cover for the bass fingerlings to hide in during the cold months. Without a place to hide the older bass will consume the fingerlings. Anyways, that's my layman's opinion.
  17. The only meat that bothers me is cheap hamburger. Too many recalls for tainted hamburger. I have started buying my meats from a small local butcher. MUCH better that way. I've actually been part of the butchering process (hog) so I doubt watching a movie about it would affect me much.
  18. So what's the difference? You were still trespassing, just on city property and not an individual's.
  19. It's more difficult to get forgiveness when you only get one phone call after being arrested for trespassing. In this case, permission is MUCH easier to get.
  20. I'm the one who hijacked it in the first place so don't feel bad about hijacking my hijack. I need to learn to better restrain myself. :-[
  21. Your information was only missing the point that the judge had lowered the punitive damages amount to 3 times actual/compensatory damages. Here are two articlesfrom the wsj discussing the reduction. McDonald's coffee award reduced 75 percent by judge, Wall Street Journal, September 15, 1994. McDonald's settles lawsuit over bum from coffee, Wall Street Journal, December 2, 1994. Here is a law school handout that is well sourced: http://www.law.depaul.edu/students/curriculum/assignment_fall_06/landsman_torts.pdf
  22. Ok seriously. Let's get this straight once and for all. The jury awarded $160K in compensatory damages and $2.7 million in punitive damages. The trial judge lowered the punitive damages to 3 times compensatory damages or $480K. Both sides appealed. Then they settled prior to the appeal being heard. That amount is confidential but has been reported to be less than $600K. All of this information is public knowledge for those willing to search for the truth rather than jump to conclusions based upon biased news reporting designed to sell papers.
  23. Since it's quite obivous that you won't take the time to read what I post, I'll pass. But good luck on that law career. :
  24. The easiest way to begin solving the problem is to keep your legal limit each and every time you go fishing and also to go fishing there OFTEN. The best way to solve the problem is to have someone come out and study the lake and tell you what to do.
  25. What's non-traditional about using frogs? What about crickets or crawdads?
