  1. Why build them here? A refinery in India is being doubled in size to provide 5% of the worldwide demand of gasoline. Why import oil and then refine it here when we can just import the product that we want (gasoline)?
  2. You do realize that unleaded gasoline is a traded commodity don't you? Big Oil does not set the price of gas. The price is mainly derived by the futures contract as traded on the NYMEX and (shockingly) is driven largely by the price of oil (the largest price input for gas).
  3. Probably not. Why wouldn't it? And why does this matter?
  4. I never caught a fish on a senko-type bait until this weekend. I haven't used them all that much since I just got back into fishing last year, but this weekend taught me that all you need to do to catch fish with a senko is to find a likely spot and put your senko there and then let the fish find it. That's about as fool proof as you can get. When I try to "work" the senko I get nothing. When I just let it sit there doing nothing I catch 'em. To me, that I LBH's point. They are killer "do nothing" baits.
  5. What I know is that test after test has shown the palomar knot to be superior to all other knots for mono. So, versatility is not necessarily a good thing when using a knot that is shown to be weaker than another knot.
  6. I do not use swivels, but I do use snaps for cranks. If I had a lure that was giving me bad line twist I'd tie a barrel swivel on and then another length of line and then the lure.
  7. No conflict here either, but the use of snaps isn't simply for a "short cut".
  8. Just as a point of clarification the best to worst classification above is opinion. Other people have the opinion that the snap and the knot are equal (ie there is no difference) and therefore tie a palomar to the snap and snap to the crank.
  9. Or it could mean that the fish are very overpopulated. Prior to doing anything I'd fish it for a while and keep detailed notes of all of your catches (quantity, length, girth, weight). The search for posts here made by Bob Lusk. He provides great insight into what he terms relative weight. If your fish are under this relative weight then you need to begin a harvest program. Adding minnows will just be a very short term solution as they will be gone in a very short amout of time.
  10. That brings up another question. Was your brother's jig hook exposed making it much easier to hook the fish? To mattm's point it is quite possible that without the right patience his brother could be catching them all day and he would get nothing. If he's swimming the worm above the bottom then his presentation is drastically different. My brother in law has no patience for soft plastics fishing and I'll out catch him every time because he doesn't wait until the worm is truly on the bottom. And that isn't because I'm necessarily a great fisherman, it's just that you gotta make sure that you are fishing the bottom.
  11. I'm a fan of those!!! They can be quite the pain to use when my fingers are freezing, but I figure that if they are difficult for me to get open then that should mean that they should be pretty foolproof in holding my lure! 8-)
  12. Over the winter I bought a Pluegger Pres/Extreme combo and a Shimano Symetre (which at $80 is just over your range). I like them both but at the same line rating the President is much heavier than the Shimano spinning reels. That's about the only difference that my uneducated hands have noticed in the couple of outings that I've used them this spring. The President 6730 (the one I have with a lighter line rating) weighs 9.1 oz but the 6735 weighs 11.2. The Symetre 2500 weighs 9.5 oz. The 6730 is on my hard bait spinning setup and the Symetre is my soft plastics. They both seem to work well for this and I don't have to use the "heavy" 6735.
  13. You didn't mention retrieve speed or type of retrieve. Is your retrieve significantly faster than his? Is he dragging the bottom and you're hopping? Is he waiting longer to begin his retrieve?
  14. If you are saying that you're not even close to an engineer then why do you "find it very hard to swallow" and/or "all that slop"? What's the basis for that opinion?
  15. Ahh, so it's a "confidence" thing? Good thing I don't put much stock in that either. Maybe I'll go check my Citica's and Symetre to see how much line actually released during the backplay. My guess is that it would be in the fractions of an inch. Yeah THAT is going to affect setting a hook.
  16. Well said. I'm merely trying to figure out why this backplay "issue" weighs so heavily on some people's minds. I honestly can not think of a situation where it would negatively affect the reel's ability to function.
  17. Why shouldn't it? What's the impact to the reel's ability to catch fish?
  18. Probably $10 for anything except swimbaits. I'm thinking of purchasing some Mattlures bass and bluegill soon so those will definately go over $10 and I won't feel too bad about that purchase considering the quality of the bait I'm getting.
  19. Maybe little Raul is working with the baitmonkey to start building up his own tackle supply. And here you keep taking it all for yourself. ;D
  20. Thanks for yelling. I don't think I would have got your point if you had used lower case letters. What's the big deal with this so called "play" anyways? Do mean that the anti reverse allows the spool and handle to turn a microscopic amount? Do you think that is really going to affect your fish catching? There's a saying about mountains and molehills, you're yelling about paperweights certainly fits it.
  21. Well, the Revo (any) includes the S, SX, STX, and Premier which spans a price range of about $100 to $250. For a true comparison the Citica and Curado should be added together and the Chronarch should also be included to match up with the Premier. But, if you just add the Citica to the Curado you have more Shimano's than Revo's.
  22. At least he answered the question with solid useful advice. ;)
  23. That's one sweet DSG deal!! The 10's and 16's are around $8 a piece at the DSG's around me.
  24. Mr. Lusk states in this thread http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1207594481/all that
  25. The one thing that it does not appear that you have taken into account is that rent typically increases year over year whereas a mortgage will remain the same for the entire life of the mortgage. Also, you need to estimate in some moving costs as the typical renter does not stay in the same home for 30 years. That being said in the short term you probably are better off (from a monthly expense standpoint) with renting. The current housing market in Miami is not good and "investors" who have purchased homes are renting them out very cheaply in order to be able to carry the cost of the property. When the market turns again I would expect those "investors" to dump the property.
