  1. Cause they're fun to catch!!! ;D
  2. One other thing to think about is the type of lure being used. An in-line spinner will twist line like no one's business. It is a good idea to use a barrell swivel in front of them. Other lures can spin on the retreive so think about the type of lure being used.
  3. I don't think it's $100 better. I think a big portion of that $100 is for the name alone. Isn't that the name of the game in fishing tackle? Are Lucky Crafts twice as good as Rapala's? Are Megabass baits 3 or 4 times as good as Rapala's? Are Yammies 2.5 times as good as ***? Are gloomis IMX rods twice as good as an Avid?
  4. RW's post is pretty much exactly what I fish with except my third rod is a 6'6" MH instead of a 7' heavy. My car doesn't easily fit rods longer than 6'6" so I went with that length. Also, I grew up fishing small lures so Heavy power was something I never thought I would get much use out of. That being said, I'll probably be adding a heavier setup next year for "small" swimbaits (6" Hud's, MattLures, etc, etc). Spinning reel is the 2500 size Shimano Symetre. Baitcasters are the 200D Citicas. I use 15lb Big Game mono on my 6'6" MH jig/worm rod. 12lb Trilene Sensation (got it cheap) on my 6'6" M crankbait rod and 8lb Trilene XT on my spinning setup. I also have another spinning setup for small crankbaits like rapala jointed minnos and such, oh and a cheap ultralight rig. But those don't really count as bass rigs.
  5. That is what I have to. Healthcare power of attorney was wrong.
  6. When completing my will I also completed a document (don't remember the name of it, healthcare power of attorney?) that said that if I were in a vegetative state or terminally ill without being aware then they are instructed to pull the plug. If I were cognizant of my surroundings but terminal and in pain, I would like to believe that I would let it end. In my opinion quality of life is more important than length of life.
  7. I didn't think this was a tax. I thought that they would be paying a little extra for health insurance.
  8. Hah, this thread did get opened back up. At my fattest I was about 205 and wolfing down entire Jack's pizzas for dinner. That's for a 5'7" guy. I realized I was too heavy and lost about 40 pounds. That was about 7 years ago. Any other questions? 8-)
  9. Why yes I do. I have a family history of heart disease and high cholesterol. When my numbers came back high (I was 30). I worked with my doctor to start a regime of diet and excercise to lower my numbers to the normal range. So far I've continued that. Your decision may also cost other people money. Why should they pay for your unhealthy decisions? You didn't use insurance for your bleeding valve, bariatic surgery, diabetes, etc? Obese people are targets because their personal decisions effect others. Smokers should also pay more for health insurance. As should other people who choose to live unhealthy lives. Consequences should exist for one's choices and one should be willing to pay the price for those choices. If not, then make different choices. So charge them appropriately.
  10. So why not get it under control? There are many diabetics who don't weigh 439. Actually, more and more places are charging smokers more for healrh insurance. They already pay much more for life insurance. Car insurance takes into account the various "risks" of different age groups. Why shouldn't people pay for their choices?
  11. I'd worry less about color and more about flash and/or vibration. The fish won't be locating your bait based upon sight, they will be concentrating on following the vibration. Big ribbon tail worms, jigs with trailers with long appendages, colorado bladed spinnerbaits, wide wobbling cranks with rattles (Mann's 1-), and maybe even topwater (jitterbug, buzzbait, etc) would be my first choices. After I figured out how to get the fish's attention, I MIGHT worry about the color of what I'm throwing.
  12. I probably look like an idiot when I'm fishing cranks because I'm speeding them up, slowing down, moving my rod tip up and down or left and right. Basically whatever it takes to get the bait to not go in a straight line. I fish a lot of suburban retention ponds with no timber or anything else really to hold fish (just weeds). I try and get the crank to move around so that it looks like the bait is confused and/or swimming away from the bass that is watching the crank. I've been real successful in the fall fishing cranks this way in those ponds.
  13. Is that his sweet shaky head? We used that on our trip. We didn't have much luck, but no one was having any luck either. Their drawing too much water out now and the fish aren't all that happy. Plus I think we were in the middle of a transition for the fish as they were moving deeper. Chuck was a good guide that I would recommend. To keep this on topic, his parasite stuff is top notch. He's got clips, sinkers, shakey heads, cradle weights for swimbaits, etc.
  14. I guess I worded my post poorly, but you echoed the point that I was TRYING to make. Pure Fishing is the parent corporation for multiple "brands" of rods, reels, fishing line, lures, etc. It seems to me to be a lot like GMC, Pontiac, Chevy, etc. All different "manufacturers" owned by the same parent company.
  15. Same in this industry. You should see everything that Pure Fishing makes. Much of the "competition" are actually made by the same parent company.
  16. Wish they would make them "normal" sized like a 360 or 370 size.
  17. There is a lot of negative feelings associated with stringers, but what you have described appears to be the best way to keep the fish happy and healthy. The angler doesn't have to worry about livewell temp or DO. When doing runs down the lake the angler can pull the stringer in and put the fish in the livewell for the run, then put them back in the lake after the run is over. Big fish would especially benefit from this. I can't imagine what the mortality rate was for the 40lb bags that BASS anglers like Elias were catching on Falcon (is that right?). Bass boat livewells simply aren't made to hold that many pounds of fish.
  18. These are sweet! I talked to the guy who owns that shop/invented them last weekend. Chuck Ditto is a guide on Lake Shelbyville, and if you ever want to go down there he knows his stuff about that lake! His parasite clips are really good too for keeping your plastics from riding up your line and getting damaged.
  19. I catch more fish per hour from shore in the ponds that I fish than I have ever caught fishing in a lake in a boat. One recommendation would be to change up your technique. If a 4" senko isn't working on the bottom then try it as a soft jerkbait, try a ribbon tail worm, try a beaver, spinnerbait, crankbait, etc, etc. Also, you want to be sure that you're fishing the right location for the time of year. Summer fish are typically related to deeper cover or shade.
  20. Growing up I fished people's ponds all the time. The key is to always be polite. Even if they refuse be sure to be polite about it. Sometimes they'll change their minds and let you fish. If you're a jerk about it then you can forget about it forever. Oh, and if you do get permission NEVER leave trash or anything around the lake (that includes ripped up worms, fishing line, whatever). In fact, it's best to try and pick up any trash you see. If it's a good body of water it's always best to be on the owner's good side.
  21. Then why do you ram a hook into their mouth, pull them to the surface, suffocate them, take pictures of them while they're suffocating, then put them back and hope that they don't die from any complications from the fight? ;D Sorry, just thought that was funny. Hopefully, it is taken as an attempt at humor.
  22. With the new citica and curados the decision does not come down to which is better. The decision is solely based upon which gear ratio best fits your needs. The citica comes in the "regular" gear ratio and the curado in the "high" speed and "cranking" ratios.
  23. This website will provide you with all you need to know. http://bloomberg.com/energy WTI spot prices are 112.15 which is down .72. Wholesale gas prices are up 2.23 cents though.
  24. Pardon me, while that information flies right over my head!!!! ;D I'll leave it to the experts to figure it out. It just comes across as strange to me (but I don't know much about it).
  25. My father in law watches it all the time and I just can't get interested in it. I don't really care who the team or manufacturer is, it seems odd to limit them because they are TOO successful. Isn't that the whole point of a racing series, to BE successful?
