  1. Why not make a mold and pour some more?
  2. Don't forget about: Does this make my butt look big?
  3. LOTS of times this is how a bite feels. The line just feels heavy when it shouldn't. One key thing to remember is that hooksets are always free. This may be one of the things that differentiates his catch rate from yours. Next time you fish with him ask him how the fish took the bait.
  4. It teaches you critical thinking skills and how to apply logic to problems. These are the types of problems that should receive a lot of focus.
  5. I'm the only one that answers 5582. "4 greater" = 4 + and 4 + 2 = 6
  6. 1) agree 2) s/b 9,713 (hundreds digit is the big one, not the tens digit) 3) agree 4) 53,611
  7. Over 125k miles on my 1999 Nissan Altima while all the time shopping for the cheapest gas. Engine still runs like a dream. Here's an article that disagrees with you. http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Consumer/story?id=1261790&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312
  8. The Ghost Minnow color is sweet. I already have had a lot of success with the black with red blade bait. No doubt that this one will be just as good. Thanks for sending it!!!
  9. Gas stations exist to make money and they'll keep their prices as high as they can for as long as they can. They don't make very much on gas while the price is rising or staying steady. So, when the price falls they try and take advantage of it and keep their prices high for as long as they can. Also, the gas station owner paid the old (high) price for the gas that's in his tank. He isn't going to want to sell it for less than he paid for it. The best thing to do in times of falling gas prices is to shop around and ONLY visit the cheapest station. This will force the other stations to drop their prices too.
  10. Flouro is denser than mono and it sinks. So, in effect his line was weighting his lure too. This will definately help in the wind with keeping the bows out of the line. One thing that I do when the wind is blowing is to lower my rod tip so less line is above the water. That line above the water is just acting like a sail. I lose some feel because my rod tip isn't in the ideal spot, but it's better than fishing with a huge bow in your line. As far as your rod not flexing when shaking the lure you probably weren't even moving it. You were more than likely just taking some of the slack out of the line and leaving the lure where it was. As to the weight of the shakey head, the Ike heads are tungsten which is significantly more dense than lead so if you put a split shot on that is "roughly the same size as the head" you probably didn't double the weight. All that being said, a better rod will DEFINATELY help as they are more sensitive.
  11. What kind of knots are you talking about? Is the line coming off the spool in large "tangles"? This could be due to overspooling the line. You want to stop putting line on before you get to the edge of the spool. Otherwise as the line comes off the spool it will "grab" other loops and pull them off the top out of order leaving you with a huge mess. Also, you want to make sure that your line isn't all twisted up. If it's twisted it will jump off the spool too. Braid usually isn't too bad about this, so this isn't the first thing that I would check.
  12. Do you really think that they look at the snap and be turned away but not see the massive treble hooks hanging from the bottom of the bait?
  13. Snap only.
  14. Throw your Reel Magic away and go out and buy some L&L. Just my opinion. 8-)
  15. For someone who says he was involved in the initial trial of L&L you've got some basic information incorrect. Line and Lure specifically states that it does not use silicone oil. As for your statement that L&L and Reel Magic are the same product. I guess they are in the same manner that gasoline and diesel are the same product. Two things used for the same purpose, but formulated very different and not to be confused with each other.
  16. I thought the same as you until I bought a fast action rod for soft plastics. The Ugly Stick may be servicable, but you'll do much better with a different rod. You want to look for a rod that is much more stiff. I don't really know what your budget is, but if you have a Bass Pro near you then you can get one of their rods. Make sure you buy one that is on sale though. The bionic blades are currently on sale and should be decent. Dicks sporting goods will also have their "house" brand of rod. You can ask one of the salesmen there and they should be able to stear you to the right place. Keep the Ugly Stick for cranks and topwater (anything with treble hooks). Use the new rod for plastics and spinnerbaits (single hook baits).
  17. Very good advice. I grew up fishing ugly stick rods (still use one of them) and at times struggled with setting the hook and "feeling" the soft plastic lures. I've changed to an Extreme rod from BPS and while it isn't top of the line, it is MUCH better than the Ugly Stick for this style of fishing.
  18. Sure you can. The Moss Boss is basically a plastic spoon with a skirt on the back. I've fished those on top of the same exact vegetation that the OP described. A weedless silver spoon would work just as well. That being said, I don't really fish the Moss Boss much anymore. I've found that I prefer the soft plastic frogs and such for going over the top of that moss.
  19. It would have to be an emergency purchase for me to ever buy a BPS rod that was not on sale. You should be able to get the crankin stick for under $40 sometime this fall. Just watch the website and when it goes on sale print out the info and take it into the store. They'll match the price there.
  20. email sent and fingers crossed that I made it in time!! I love cavitrons. Evo jigs rule too!!
  21. Went fishing yesterday using soft plastics. Started off with the barb intact, but after really having to wrench to release a few fish I mashed the barb down. No issues after that. So, my one experience (so far) has been a good one with mashing down the barb. I will probably continue this for a at least a while to determine if it is negatively affecting my landing ratio. However, I don't stress out about fishing for anything. Fishing for me is a way to get rid of stress, I don't need to add to it while I'm out there!
  22. It made landfall as a hurricane days ago in Haiti. There is other land down there besides the US.
  23. I'm completely the opposite. I start with spinnerbait/crankbait or "motion" lures looking for active bass in the area. If there is a group of them you can get them all turned on and have a blast. Then if that isn't working I'll slow down with soft plastics.
  24. What was that that Hookem said about stereotyping people?
  25. Why has this discussion went from one of a group of people paying more for health insurance to a discussion of a "fat tax"? The original article has nothing to do with a fat tax. This situation boils down to should someone who is overweight be charged more for health insurance. If this discussion is one of "should people be taxed for being overweight" then I disagree with that. They're very different things and shouldn't be thought of as identical.
