  1. Asian carp were imported by catfish farmers to keep their ponds clean. Some of those ponds were close to the river and during a particularly bad flood the river flooded into the ponds and the carp are now in the river. There's talk that the carp won't be able to spawn in the Lakes. Supposedly, they need current to suspend their eggs. If the eggs hit the rive/lake bed then the eggs are no longer viable.
  2. Actually, there isn't. It's this kind of thinking that perpetuates the insanity of the conspiracy theories (I like the word idiocy instead of theories though because these "theories" have been disproven time and time again and as such should not be called theories.). So, you're an engineer with direct knowledge of the effects of jet engines slamming into massively reinforced concrete at speeds approaching 500 miles an hour? And also have knowledge on the effects of a full load of jet fuel exploding instantaneously resulting in a massive conflagration surrounding those engines that just slammed into the concrete walls? If not, on what basis do you make the above assertion?
  3. And btw, Loose Change 2 wasn't released until June of 2006!!! So, just so we have the story right, the gov't knew this guy was alive and that he witnessed something that he shouldn't have. They let him live for over 4 years until he meets with two lunatics and then the gov't kills him a week later and they don't kill the other two lunatics? Your post would also potentially have some credibility if you referenced a news story, or even knew the guys name. But, this sounds like an "I know someone who knows someone who...." story. Complete and utter fiction.
  4. Agreed and I won't go any further on this as we're probably skating the political line as it is.
  5. Actually, it's not. Missing a couple of hours of school or even a day or two will not significantly affect national test scores or even individual school test scores. Our education system is no good, but for other reasons and not this.
  6. Yes, it's a coincidence. If the gov't killed him then why in the H would they kill him after he did an interview on tape, and then why in the H wouldn't they also kill the interviewers and take the tape so that no one could ever see it? Seriously people, use some common sense!!! I think I watched Loose Change and the only things that were Loose are the screws in the heads of the people who made the film (and NO I won't call it a documentary).
  7. Change Penn to Shimano and I match. I fished that ugly stick for a LONG time. It was a ML and my favorite lure was a berkley power worm!!! Had some hook setting issues for sure, but I didn't know any better back then.
  8. It doesn't take much thought to figure it out. You just have to remember what you learned in high school physics. In all honesty, the angler isn't really going to notice that much of a difference. The weights that are being applied are not very much and everyone should be able to handle the difference between a regular rod and a 7'6" rod or longer. The drag, line, or rod will likely fail before the angler runs out of "power" to hold the rod in position. I just get annoyed when something that is blatantly incorrect is taken at face value and accepted as a benefit. It's just a flaw that I have.
  9. To the conspiracy theorists, keep on believing! ;D
  10. You last quote is very fitting. What the "conspiracy theorists" do not tell you is that the camera in the guard shack is a fish eye lens that is used to video cars/people going by the shack. It is not meant to capture fast movement from a distance. So just seeing a blur is perfectly logical. They don't talk about the light poles that were knocked down by the plane's wings, they don't talk about the plane pieces that were strewn about, they don't talk about any of the eyewitness accounts (people who saw an AA plane hit the pentagon). As far as wing damage is concerned, consider the mass of the planes wings and you'll see why there is not going to be much damage. The "theorists" are blatantly sensationalistic and ridiculous.
  11. Not entirely....a longer handle gives you more leverage. Sure, if you hold the rod at the reel seat and are exerting force downward on the end of the handle then you have a lever behind the reel seat and a lever in front of it. The one in front works for the fish and the one behind works for the angler. If you aren't pushing down on the end of the handle, but instead have it pressed against your body then the pivot point has moved to the end of the handle increasing the length of the fish's lever. Giving you less leverage again.
  12. This always comes up in these discussions and it's completely incorrect. A longer rod gives the angler LESS leverage than a shorter rod. It's simple physics. Let's look at it in detail. The fish is providing the force on the lever (your rod). Your hands are the fulcrum point of the lever (where the lever pivots). The further the distance from the fulcrum point the less power required to move the lever. It's why breaker bars are used on sockets, crowbars are used at all, etc and why they use short rods for fishing for tuna and BIG fish. People that think they get more leverage are mixing up the fulcrum point. It's at your hands and not at the fish. A longer rod will move more line on the hookset. We can equate the rod to the radius of a circle. A shorter rod will result in a smaller circumference so as the angler sets the hook from say 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock (1/4 of the circumference of a circle) the distance the rod tip travels is less in a shorter rod than a longer rod.
  13. It's probably firewall magic. I'm guessing fourbizz linked from youtube or something. I can't see it either, but my work blocks everything fun.
  14. You can put whatever you want in your own ponds. It's when you putting them in public waters that you have to be careful and make sure you know your state's laws.
  15. Would bass really be able to utilize them effectively? The branches on x-mas trees are very dense meaning that the only fish able to get in there would be small fish. A bass would likely not be able to use it as an effective ambush spot. Also, they are mainly made out of plastic. Not really what you want to be dumping into your water. It would probably be considered littering.
  16. Leon Lett has two plays that were worse than Favre's interception.
  17. Not reviewable. Favre is one of the all time best quarterbacks. Whoever says otherwise is smoking some powerful stuff.
  18. Every single company that warrants their product includes the "cost" of the warranty in the price of their product. It has nothing to do with "commies", it's just the way business is done.
  19. I'd be all over the volt if it was a 5 passenger. The concept of driving 40 miles without using gas is sweet. Oh and the cars are typically charged at night when a large percentage of electricity produced is just wasted because it isn't being used. So, it's actually a win win. Simple logic.
  20. A little slower tip can be beneficial in finesse applications...Simply because the line used is usually light, and a softer rod will help protect the lighter line from breakage. That's power and not action. An extra fast tip on a M or ML rod is still something that is a good thing and the lower power rating will better suit the lighter line.
  21. Not hardly. If you just have a personal return without a lot of investment income then software like turbotax or taxcut will walk you through every step and most every possible deduction that you can take. Paying hundreds of dollars for a personal tax return just doesn't make any sense when you can do it for $40 using turbo tax. Licensed CPA's are required to attend a certain number of hours of training per year. However, that requirement is for public accounting standards and practices. There is no requirement for a CPA to attend ANY courses on personal income taxes.
  22. I've used turbo tax for years and it's great. You can complete the online version for free. You won't be charged until you actually file the return so you can compare what you get vs what you're "CPA" gets. Just an fyi, the CPA exam does not cover personal income taxes. One does not need to know anything about personal income taxes to be a CPA. So, why do you think that having a CPA qualifies someone to be any sort of competent tax preparer?
  23. I've got a BPS backpack tackle bag that I love. It fits a TON of stuff (almost too much to comfortably carry) and I haven't had a single issue with it in 2 years of use.
  24. If only that was the case. :
  25. If you feel really confident with that response, than next time you and a buddy go fishing, put a bet on who will catch the most fish. You use artificial and let the other person use live bait. At the end of the day, YOU WILL be paying the other person money. I say this because I have fished side by side people that have very little fishing experience using live bait while I throw artificial. In every case I was out fished. George is a very successful guide on Stick Marsh in Florida. So, he knows what he's talking about. If live bait caught more fish then he'd push people to use live bait. Instead, I think, he uses a TON of senkos, swim senkos, and traps.
