  1. This is the one I use: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=null-cat20160&id=0047984517627a&navCount=0&podId=0047984&parentId=cat20160&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=QW&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20160&cmCat=netcon&cm_ven=netcon&cm_cat=N/A&cm_pla=N/A&cm_ite=netcon&hasJS=true It's tremendous. Has white and red lights, and a lever so you can adjust the brightness. I almost always use the red on the lowest power and it's enough light to tie knots and unhook fish easily. I use the bright white when I'm walking through the woods to get to my spot. Have used it for several hours on the same batteries and it's showing no signs of needing new batteries yet.
  2. Wow, that's totally ridiculous ;D That just seems like an extremely dangerous thing to do. Tarpon are crazy, and a large one can easily jump over your head and land on you if you're in a float tube. Also, tarpon a lot of the time share water with gators, crocs, and sharks. Is this guy crazy? Very impressive though.
  3. That's just beautiful, it's the same as saying, "I'm sorry you feel that way," which is something that really P's me off when I hear it. I'd also be willing to make a bet that they don't contact you when they "have more information."
  4. I used the stuff for a while. It's not bad, but Power Pro is way better. Fireline frays very easily, and I had a couple problems with leader knots failing, whereas I've never had that problem with Power Pro. And Fireline Crystal is not clear in the water.
  5. x2, but mine sounds like the old rotary phone ring
  6. I had a lot of success on the Chatterbait brand last year, and now it's one of my go-to baits, especially for night fishing. I don't like the other brands I've tried (Booyah, Gambler) as much. I'll have to try the Vibra-Shock though - that looks like a pretty sweet design.
  7. They looked really good on Lindner's, but I'm just not sure that they're anything other than a big jerkbait. All of those smallies could have been caught on an X-Rap or a Pointer. The only advantage I see of the Sub Walk over a jerkbait is that it looks like you can more effectively fish the whole water column. I look forward to hearing reports from anyone who tries them out this year, but for now, I'm sticking with my jerkbaits 8-)
  8. I like tons of music, but not country. I have heard a few country songs I like, but other than that, it just doesn't do it for me. Lately I've been listening to a lot of funky jazz, i.e. Soulive. Muddy - if you like funk and jazz, you'll love Soulive. They're amazing. Any other fans? Their newest album kinda sucks, IMO. They added a vocalist who's really good, but the funk just isn't there anymore.
  9. I'll be in the Hanover area Feb 8-10...any chance there are streams/rivers that aren't frozen over? Any of you guys catch any trout this time of year up there, or is it not even worth taking my fishing stuff up? CT has been pretty good for trout this winter...
  10. Wow you're really cool.
  11. When I was a kid (maybe 12 years old?) I was in my canoe with my brother and for a change, we were bass fishing in one of the lakes in my neighborhood. All we fished back then was t-rigged worms with 1/4 oz brass bullet weight, or little Rebel jointed minnows, blue/chrome. Anyway, I was fishing my little Rebel out in the middle of nowhere over some submerged brush, and this bass just absolutely nails it. I was using my saltwater inshore gear (I think it was a Symetre 3000 with a Carbomax) and pink 8 lb test Ande line (the only line I used). This fish goes on a crazy drag run, and as I start to gain, I caught a glimpse of the fish, and it was an absolute giant. I freaked out, ended up losing the fish, screaming, and my brother and I just sat in the canoe for a few minutes talking about how huge it was. In retrospect, it could have been a double digit (it was in FL), but I really don't know. I haven't thought about that in years, but I'll definitely never forget it
  12. OH. MY. GOD. his wife is absolutely intolerable.
  13. One more thing that wasn't mentioned - jerkbaits. Whether or not you'll be able to fish them effectively depends on how "snaggy" the area is that you'll be fishing, but as long as it's relatively open, I would highly suggest a jerkbait like the Rapala X-Rap or a Lucky Craft Pointer, exept maybe when the water is extremely cold. If the area you fish allows for it, my first choice would be a jerkbait.
  14. I know that one member here, johnnydel, mentioned that he was catching smallies in the Schuylkill last summer and fall. You might want to PM him for some advice on what works well in the river. Also,
  15. I wouldn't mind it too much if I inherited something like that :
  16. Good thread - a weakness of mine is the Rattle bait. I haven't had much success with it, and because of that, I haven't really gone out and used it a whole lot. And because of that, I don't have much confidence in it. Something that would help a lot of you (and me) is to go out one day with ONLY that one bait that you want to learn how to use. It's best to do it somewhere that has a lot of fish. All you have to do is catch a few fish on a certain bait, and it's like magic: you all of a sudden have a bunch of confidence with it. Another thing you can do is fish with someone who is proficient with the bait you're trying to learn. For example, when I first saw the Chatterbait, it looked like a complete gimmick to me and I refused even to try it. I was fishing last spring with my brother who bought a few after they caught his eye, and he was throwing the chatterbait while I was throwing other stuff. I had caught a couple dinks, and he kept landing larger fish. Then all of a sudden he hooked into his PB, a fat 6 lber (big for CT), and that did it for me. I tied one on and haven't looked back since. It's now one of my confidence baits. This coming spring/summer I plan on going out one day with only rattle traps to get some confidence with them. After reading X number of posts here about technique, I certainly know what I'm supposed to do with them I was just thinking - a reason a lot of us have trouble gaining confidence with a bait we don't use is probably because we only try it out when nothing else is working. Next time you're slammin' them, try out one of the baits you're not comfortable with.
  17. I've caught stripers on the Storm swimbaits - they seem to work fine, except they do roll over a bit when you reel them fast. They do smell like plastic, but that's nothing a little MegaStrike can't fix. I'm not a big swimbait guy, partially because I live in the Northeast, but I have had some success with the regular Storm swimbaits. A LOT of their baits really really suck though, like the "slab" baits or whatever. I bought a crappie imitation, and "crappy" doesn't even begin to describe it
  18. Well if you're gonna be targeting pickerel, I highly recommend that you throw....absolutely anything with a hook Seriously, they'll hit anything. Your best bet for colder water fishing is probably either a hard or a soft jerkbait.
  19. I thought it was pretty funny, but that part was just disgusting I saw it with a pretty straight-edged ladyfriend of mine, so that definitely detracted from the movie because I knew she was disgusted by pretty much the whole thing. I'll have to watch it again with some guy friends.
  20. Cheap Russian mail-order bride, and maybe a beer or two with the change
  21. Go skiing and get p'd off at all the snowboarders ruining the slopes > aw c'mon now, that's not true at all. everyone knows it's skiers that ruin the slopes rockin the "pizza wedge" and other rad techniques. ;D i kid, i kid... but seriously, i can't stand the whole "skiers vs. snowboarders" thing that's been going on since i started riding 12+ years ago. a lot of my friends ski, a lot ride, and i have just as good a time with the skiers as i do with the boarders. Yeah I don't buy into the whole boarder vs. skier fight too much, it just really annoys me when you see bad snowboarders scraping down the mountain sideways creating long wide ice trails. And skiers and snowboarders alike, can't stand the ones with no etiquette.
  22. If I were fortunate enough to have a spot like that (I'm jealous) I would start out with a jerkbait like an X-Rap or a Lucky Craft pointer and experiment with different retrieves and lenghts of pauses. If I didn't have much luck with that or if the fish were smaller than I wanted, I might go a little deeper with either a suspending crankbait or a deeper diving jerkbait. If that didn't produce I'd try hair jigs, and if that didn't produce, I'd try several different techniques like a blade bait, spinnerbait, chatterbait, or any number of soft plastics. But I think a jerkbait is a really good starting point...
  23. I like what Steve Kennedy does - he strains and grunts, then starts laughing uncontrollably while saying the word 'awesome' repeatedly ;D He obviously loves his job. And usually with the first fish of the day, I'll say something like, "Alright come here you little *******!"
  24. I didn't like the last few episodes of the show, but this last one with the smallies was awesome. I loved watching them interact with the diver and watching them hit the lures. They need to do more of that type of footage for sure.
