  1. THAT FISH IS 14 INCHES!!! Just kidding Nice fish there, and if after reading Bob Kavanaugh's post you still doubt the length, put your glasses on and stop drinking.
  2. That's a pretty fish there man It's nice to see a fellow CT resident startin' to catch some bass. Did you try suspending jerkbaits? Those are by far my most productive baits this time of year, and I'm heading out this Saturday, rain or shine, with 4 rods, 3 rigged with jerkbaits, one with a crankbait 8-) And again, that's a really pretty bass - good picture quality too.
  3. Open a bag of Gulp baits, take a big whiff, then we'll talk
  4. Thanks for the info so far guys. One important thing I forgot to mention - he's looking for shore fishing opportunities for now. I've done a little research myself, and Lake Chabot and San Pablo Reservoir look pretty good and shore-accessible. Any thoughts on those lakes?
  5. I spooled up one of my baitcasters with it last year, and it looks really cool. After the trip I took it all off because I don't like it. Wiry and stretchy. I still have it spooled on all of my spinning reels....as backing. It does a pretty good job at that 8-)
  6. Guys, I have a friend in the Coast Guard who recently moved from Connecticut to San Francisco, and he has no idea how to go about getting started with bass fishing in the area. I'm wondering if you could give him a few pointers... Are there many lakes/ponds within an hour or so from the city limits where you can fish from shore? How would an out-of-towner go about getting a fishing license, and how much would it cost? Do you know if there might be any discount for being in the Coast Guard? He said he went to one reservoir to fish, but there were huge signs everywhere that said you can't fish. I have no idea how to help him, but any advice you have for him is really appreciated. Once there are a few responses I'll email him a link to the thread. Thanks a lot gents
  7. My tackle bag/tackle area was reorganized 5 times by the end of December, but since then it's gone to crap. I have a lot of organizing to do before Saturday, which is gonna be jerkbait bass/pickerel/crappie/perch bonanza ;D All my lakes will be open by then. It's almost 50 here in Hartford, CT, and raining.
  8. Hugo Boss and Farenheit
  9. This is one of the best news articles I've read about global warming. It infuriates me when I think of all the money spent to try to minimize or prevent global warming, when it's not proven that we cause it, and it's not certain that global warming would be a bad thing even if we were causing it. I like the tidbit in the article that humans are responsible for a fraction of one percent of greenhouse gas emissions. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,334682,00.html
  10. I haven't experimented too much, but I love Tabasco, especially on my eggs. Since it was first recommended to me for breakfast, I haven't eaten eggs without it 8-)
  11. Great thread guys, there's some good info in there that will be helpful. I'd like to quit sometime soon...the problem is that it's almost impossible to quit if you don't want to or don't have a noticeable reason to quit. It makes it tougher that my grandmother is 93, in good health for that age, and has been smoking two packs a day since she was a teenager. And Alpster - 4+ packs a day? Wow, that's amazing that you quit, congrats. Troutfisher - interesting info GeneinTX - I know what you mean. Nothin' like that first cig in the morning....or the cig after any meal...or the one you have with a beer or several beers...or the one after relations.....it's gonna be tough :-/
  12. WOW! Great pictures, thanks for sharing Bassectomy ;D I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm definitely gonna try to make a trip up there this summer. It looks absolutely gorgeous, with great fishing, wildlife, and prices.
  13. Took my dog out yesterday afternoon for a scouting trip instead of my usual trout fishing afternoon (trout bite has SUCKED lately). All of the really small ponds are almost ice-free, and the bigger ones are 1/3 open, and the ice that is there is thin and slushy. Should be able to go bass fishing this weekend!!! This is a very promising forecast http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/achesandpains/tenday/06111?from=36hr_topnav_aches 8-)
  14. Okuma has some pretty low-end stuff and high-end stuff. I have used a couple of the low-end spinning reels and for the money, they were great. One of those reels is now dead because I took it on a fishing trip in the Everglades, and while the drag worked like a dream, the reel is now shot because of the abuse. I've heard a lot of good things about their higher-end products, but I haven't tried any yet. I'd like to hear if anyone has good things to say about their V-System line.
  15. Man I love those fish. Nice
  16. What did they think would happen? That's just incredible.
  17. One Tuesday morning I woke up on my couch and truly believed for about 30 seconds that it was Saturday. I remember thinking about how I was going fishing, until I realized it was a weekday and I had to go to work. What a miserable way to wake up.
  18. Come on, you have to sport the combover. If I ever go bald that's exactly what I'm gonna do, along with a ton of gel so that it's like a helmet. I have normal medium-length brown hair, been wanting to grow a mullet and handlebar 'stash for years but can't get up the nerve. I noticed my first gray hair when I was in my mid-teens. Now I'm almost 24 and I have a bunch of grey hair. I tell the ladies it's a sign of wisdom ;D Seriously though, I don't mind - it's better than going bald I guess.
  19. LBH - I'm at work, so I'm gonna go ahead and not google your screen name...I can only imagine ;D And apparently there's TokyoTony.com. And don't waste your time, I promise it's not worth checking out unless you're looking for an apartment in Tokyo.
  20. Roll on for sure. Haven't used spray-on since post-phys ed wash up in 6th grade. Gillette.
  21. I hope you don't fish with Powerbait plastics, or especially Gulp plastics ;D
  22. Very sad. RIP.
  23. Stradic FI. It casts farther than the Pflueger Supreme (I tried them both, same size reel, on the same rod, line, lure, place, etc.). The new Stradic has a special lip on the spool, although I'm not sure if that's why it casts farther. Definitely 7' rod, preferably fast or extra fast action. The rod's definitely way more important than the reel.
  24. Wow, really? Gorilla Braid? I bought a spool of it a while ago, and the stuff is like rope. Worst stuff I've ever even seen. I made a few casts, put that rod down for the rest of the day and unspooled it when I got home. I now use it for things that require rope. It's so heavy that when I was casting (spinning reel), the line was coming off the spool and slapping the rod audibly. Anyway, I would like to hear the opinions of people who have used Power Pro AND Sufix to see what you think. Once I found Power Pro, I haven't even considered using anything else, and it seems the same for those who use Sufix. For those who have used both (extensively), what's your opinion? These two brands seem to be the most popular.
  25. Didn't realize it was both weight and length, but I don't think it matters. When I go to my local Pumkinseed hole (lol) this year, I'll get the state record. And you'll be outfishin' me? Them's fightin words :-*
