  1. Yes, they're worth it. They've become one of my go-to baits, especially for nightfishing. Many different retrieves work, but my most productive to date is slow-rolling it along the bottom and ticking any structure/cover and pulsating it. Sometimes when a fish hits it, you'll just feel the vibrations stop. Othertimes, they just nail it.
  2. When I first started fishing jigs frequently I had the mindset that anything that would strike a jig would be huge. I got a strike, set the hook into what I thought had to be a monster, and it was about the size of your fish there. It flew out of the water and hit me right in the fruit basket ;D Nice story there bassman ;D
  3. Just had a vivid fishing dream last night, probably as a result of this thread ;D Thanks for starting it, because it was an awesome dream... I was fishing at a small unnamed pond that my brother and I call "Huge Pond" because it is home to huge bass. The water was very muddy, a dark orange/red color (we've gotten a lot of rain lately - in real life). I was fishing a senko with a spinning setup from shore. My brother was there, as well as a friend of mine and his nephew (I sometimes go fishing with the two of them). The other three were catching nice bass every cast, and I had only gotten one. I cast my senko out, got an immediate hit, set the hook, and as I was reeling it I said, "Ohh boy, this is a nice one!" As it got to shore, I saw that it was HUGE - about a 10 lber (sorry guys, I didn't get a weigth on her ) I lipped her, and somehow my lure had changed to a white/chartreuse/red spinnerbait. The main hook and the trailer hook were deep in the roof of her mouth, but I got them out just fine - I do remember in great detail the whole process of getting the hooks out. I turn around for some pictures and all of a sudden my grandmother is there (she introduced me to fishing) with the camera, but she's holding it diagonally. I remember being frustrated because the pictures were gonna be crappy, and that's the last I remember. Usually I don't remember dreams in that much detail, but right when I woke up, I went over all the details again so I could retain them and post them on this thread ;D Biggest bass of '08 so far!
  4. You never know :
  5. Great satchel, and cool pic
  6. That's a d**n good-lookin' fish, congrats
  7. Beautiful fish there - I bet they pulled pretty hard ;D (I can't see most pictures at work but I can see them from my home computer; hence, the delay :)
  8. Good point
  9. That I don't know, but if you really have to have a glow-in-the-dark jitterbug you could buy glow-in-the-dark paint. They make that type of paint specifically for lures. For more info you could probably post in the luremaking forum. To be honest though, a black jitterbug probably provides better contrast than a glow-in-the-dark one.
  10. Hey guys, thanks for the info. Regarding the hardbound catalogs, I don't think it's based on how much you spend because in 2007 I spent about 25 times as much money as I did in 2006, but I received the 2006 hardbound but not the 2007. Also, the customer service rep said it's some kind of lottery. And fooman - I have a Cabela's credit card. You would think that considering the amount of money I spend there and the fact that I have the freakin' credit card, they could have the courtesy to send me a *&$%# hardbound &*$%#@ catalog, right? It's the principle of the thing. I guess I can make another call and make a stink, but it's just not really worth my time. Lastly, I will definitely check out the sale on X-Raps and Subwalks. Sounds like a healthy little discount 8-)
  11. Agreed! the Zona-isms alone are (IMO) worth the 30 minutes spent watching the show... "Can-Am Invitational" - fishing with VanDam on Lake Michigan (I think) "Baby cub wanna go nightie nightie" - his crazy song about...uh...who the he** knows? "Man bear pig" - he seems to say that a lot when he or his partner nails a big one "Possum Kingdom Invitational" - fishing with Jeff Kriet on Choke Canyon hilarious! "Manbearpig" is a reference to Al Gore in a South Park episode - he was being super cereal. I may be alone here, but I'm not a huge fan of Zona. He's way to perky and loud.
  12. I chose Japanese/Chinese, not surprisingly, but I will say that Japanese food is much different than Chinese food, and IMO more delicious. There's nothing better than a huge array of very fresh sushi/sashimi (you Cali guys and you New Yorkers have the best that the States has to offer), a bowl of rice, and some hot sake (with blowfish fins), and a Kirin beer on the side. Oh man, writing that just made me very hungry
  13. The Breach - best movie I've seen since The Illusionist. It's about the biggest spy ever to work within the FBI. He sold millions (maybe billions) of dollars worth of classified information to the Russians, and was responsible for the execution and uncovering of many American spies and military operatives. The acting was excellent, storyline excellent - everything was excellent. I highly recommend this movie, especially if you're into espionage.
  14. I like very tight-fitting capri's. Tight enough that you can see the outline of my velvet banana hammock.
  15. Anyone see the last episode? They took it down to the canal system in Miami, FL. I was kinda hoping for some better underwater footage, but overall I thought it was a really cool episode, especially because I was able to fish that area last summer. It's a really cool fishery and the number of different exotic species is amazing. They really didn't catch any large peacocks, just little two pounders all day. It still looked like a blast though. What'd you guys think of the episode?
  16. So Kenora, you have all your clients bend the barbs down? Especially with novice clients, I would think that there would be a significant drop in the number of fish landed if you have them bend the barb down... P.S.
  17. Thanks for the info guys - this is more than enough to get him started Special thanks to Brokejaw for the great info in the PM's you sent me.
  18. +1 I don't know if I could handle that!!!! Don't feel bad - we only need your sympathy in the middle of winter when bass fishing is only a dream. Now since we're so close (or currently at) ice-out, we're all pretty psyched. I can say that we Northerners will be enjoying the next month or so of fishing much more than you guys who have been fishing all along because we've been anticipating this time for sooooo long ;D
  19. I agree 100%. I once had a long and heated argument with a friend of mine over whether golf was a sport or a game. I was arguing it's a sport, he was saying it's a game. I realized I was actually defending golf as a legitimate activity (compared to baseball, for example), and he was pretty much trying to say it's a game for *cats*. I realized it didn't matter whether golf is a game or a sport, it is what it is, and it's way better than any activity that's typically referred to as a sport, such as baseball or basketball ;D It's the same with fishing - it's way better than any other sport or hobby or game, even golf 8-)
  20. Perfect Hook Set - I'm going to Silver Lake in Berlin, CT on Saturday. It's got tons and tons of smaller-sized aggressive bass (and huge crappies, some perch, and pickerel), so I'm just lookin to go out and get some numbers. Maybe after I get my fix, and a little closer to the spawn, I'll look for some big mommas ;D
  21. There's no option for the 1000+ page, hardbound, master catalog though. That's the pearl I'm looking for. Apparently Cabela's hires a publishing company to put it together and they run some kind of BS lottery to determine who gets them. Anyway, I don't care all that much about that, but I'm gonna be buying a pontoon boat and a new rod/reel setup, and don't want to buy it now if I'll be able to save $100 bucks if I wait a week or two, so I'd prefer to wait for the sale. And Muddy, I'll definitely check out that depth finder unit - should be perfect for the 'toon ;D Oh, and Subwalks too. I dont' want to get any, but I've just heard too many good things about them not to get some.
  22. Nice pictures there There are a few foxes at my golf course, and they are beautiful creatures. I wish I could have one as a pet - that would be awesome. At the golf course, they've become really used to people, so they just sit there lying in the sun, and you can walk right past them, literally within 20 feet, and they just lie there looking at you.
  23. Anyone know when the next deal comes out? I got a thing in the mail last winter because I have a Cabela's credit card, something like you spend X amount of money and get X amount off of your purchase. I just called customer service and they said they didn't know, but it may be a policy of theirs not to forecast it because it may prevent people from going a week before the sale and paying full price. I figured the good folks at BR may have an idea? Also, I received one of those giant hardback catalogs last spring, and in 2007-8 I've spent more money than I've ever spent at Cabela's (the store just opened up near me), but I didn't get one this year. Apparently it's a lottery and some get them, some don't, regardless of how much you spend. The representative offered to send me a catalog for 10 bucks, and I refused. That sounds like a ridiculous policy, especially because having the catalog would probably make Cabela's a whole bunch of money since I'd be looking through it every time I pinch a loaf, which is at least once a day 8-)
  24. Terminator T-1. Truest running bait, IMO.
