  1. Cool, I might take you up on that sometime soon. Have you been out there yet this year? How many can you expect to catch in a night? Oh, and I'm always strapped. Not really, but the only gun I have is a 30-30 lever action. It'll get the job done, but it's less than inconspicuous. Thanks EdKras, I'll check it out.

    - muddy Sorry, to add something constructive to the thread, I'll say joining a club is a great idea. I am joining fishizzle's club soon just to see what all the fuss is about and to fish some different lakes.
  3. IMO, it's important sometimes, not so important other times. For example, I've never seen something that's clown color, or a pink baitfish (one of my favorite smallie colors), but those are often great colors. I think it's more important to find something that is appealing to bass, as opposed to something that looks just like their usual fare. For example, Senkos. Have you ever seen anything that has that falling action? If so, post a video I think that's one of the appealing characteristics of bass, that they're usually not as finicky as trout, to name a species. I know sometimes trout won't rise on any type of fly that looks different from the current hatch. Although that's cool in a way, it also sucks for those not well-versed in hatches and fly-tying (i.e. me).
  4. I generally just make sure there's no slack in the line when my lure hits the water by reeling quickly and lowering the rod tip. Then when the line is straight and on the surface, I'll begin to work the lure. Boat control? Usually I'm either in a canoe or a 'toon, and I'll just use the anchor all day and go from spot to spot. One thing to consider that if there's enough wind to generate a slight current, the fish are generally going to be facing the current.
  5. Best: learn all about bass fishing, behavior, equipment, etc., and give me something to do at work Worst: Introduce me to banana breath, a.k.a. diminish the crap out of my bank account.
  6. To rephrase in my earlier post, replace every "UFO" with "alien spacecraft". Do you guys believe that no alien spacecraft has ever entered our atmosphere in recent history? I can't say I blame you - I was a skeptic myself. What made me change my mind was watching a few documentaries. It was wild. P.S. 'UFO' connotes something like alien spacecraft, flying saucer, etc, even though it technically means what you said, Burley. That happens all the time with words - they start out as something, but evolve into something else that's not quite what it started as. Strictly speaking, yes, UFO is just something flying that we can't identify. A gorilla could hurl his turd through the air, and if we only see the blur of the turd and not the gorilla, it's a UFO ;D
  7. I have not seen any, but I've watched several documentaries about UFO's, and although they're definitely sensationalized, there are facts that can't be denied, such as sightings by several different residents of an area, with similar descriptions. Then the government says it was some kind of test run of a new aircraft. Right. The most credible reports come from trained, licensed veteran pilots. Many have gone on record saying they definitely saw UFO's while in flight. I have no doubt that alien life forms have been checking us out for a long time, although I can't say I've seen any of their craft myself. Does that make me crazy? I think YOU'RE the crazy one if you think I'm crazy ;D
  8. You've gotta take up winter time trout fishing man Seriously though, I've felt that way a couple times this spring, especially when the weekend comes around. I'm sitting there watching TV, and although the lakes are open and the bass are biting, it's pretty cold out and really windy. It just doesn't seem like it's worth the effort. I just have to give myself a pep talk: "Chaki, you've been waiting for this all week, just get off your a** and get on the water. If you don't you'll feel like you just wasted one of your precious days off." Then I get off the couch, set everything up, and even though it's cold when I'm out there, catching a few fish makes it all worth it. Lastly, I really don't think you'll have any problem at all getting motivated once it really starts warming up (65+ degrees). It's just tough to get motivated when it's cold and windy. Good luck!
  9. Suhweet! Thanks for the info. The only place I've really fished for them from shore is around Wethersfield Cove (10 mins from my house)...I assume I'll be able to nab a few there. But I'll have to try your area too. I wouldn't at all mind catching 3-5 pound schoolies to get the blood flowing.
  10. I want to come up with an idea (I've got a few), start a company, work hard building it over several years, sell it, then live the good life - fish a lot and watch a lot of TV. It seems easy when I say it like that 8-)
  11. Wow, great fish there. How deep did you get them and what type of structure?
  12. These were mentioned, but the only two "must-do" mods for me are... Trimming weedguard on jigs. However, I've been using Jewel Eakin's jigs lately, and I don't need to trim those. I think those weedguards are perfect. Just wish they'd come with two sets of rattles. Adding oval split rings (Lucky Craft brand rings are the only ones I've found) to X-Raps, especially. I find that the split rings on on X-Raps are always bent slightly open, which is a little scary to me.
  13. I don't throw plastics without MegaStrike...it's kind of a confidence thing. I do believe that it helps, but that's my opinion. Also, I'm a smoker, so the MegaStrike helps mask any smoke odor that finds its way to my baits. I have a couple Cavitrons, but haven't used them too much just because I'm not a big fan of buzzbaits. It does run well though. Evolution jigs - I don't like them, especially for the price. I had to spend time evening out the skirts before using them, and the weedguard is too flimsy, IMO, for dense cover.
  14. Gents, anyone know when they start comin' up the river?
  15. rrriiiggghhhttt...
  16. How about a 6 pack instead? It may not be a grand, but it's at least a buzz 8-)
  17. Hey guys, I just got these pictures off of my work computer...I hope I haven't posted them before. They're from last June/July during my trip to Miami... A nice snook caught on a bucktail jig - the thing took the jig then swam right at the boat. I didn't feel anything so I reeled really fast unti I felt it, then the fight was on. This fish immediately raced away from the beach, and I still have the image in my head - the line ripping sideways through the water ;D How much you think it weighed? 7 or 8? A baby tarpon my brother caught on a super spook. It was right on the incoming tide at a creek mouth where we anchored. The tarpon were schooled up and just nailing the mullet. AWESOME This was the beach where we caught most of our snook. The fish were so far up on shore you wouldn't believe it. They were swimming in the breaking waves and you could see their shadows. Pretty cool sightfishing for snook I know I've posted this before, but once again for good measure...
  18. Good-lookin' fish there, and thanks for letting us see the background
  19. Nice fish there Ms. Matstone
  20. Nice fish there buddy!
  21. Great fish there man, and those are some beautiful lakes you have there. Seeing some of those pics just made me long for those windless, bluebird, summer mornings. Can't wait.
  22. That's pretty cool man. The one thing I can't stand about him, however, is how he shoves his hands in the gills of all these bass he catches. I'm sure it doesn't harm them, but it still makes me cringe. There's no reason for it. It's like he has a gill fetish. As for Segall, no one can sit there and tell me he's not the man. I've watched him beat the sh** out of and kill hundreds of really bad people...without shedding a drop of his own blood, changing his facial expression, or changing his tone of voice. How many of you can say you've done that? Not many at all.
  23. Playa Good info there Catt, thanks.
  24. No, it's mostly cuz I've been fishing Silver Lake to get my fill We'll have to check out Breakneck soon, I forgot to get back to you, but tonight I'll PM you. I'm about to have a looksee on Google Earth.
  25. Same order for me. From Newington, CT
