  1. I like Pachaug, haven't fished the others but I've heard of them. I heard Mansfield Hollow is a pile though. I'd like to fish Amos soon...I've actually looked for it after hanging out at Foxwood's, didn't find it, so just fished Wyassup instead.
  2. Where do you fish?
  3. Yeah bass fishing's been pretty slow. I actually didn't do my usual bass gig after work yesterday but headed to a river near where I work to go for some trout. Water was really high and fast, but I managed a trout and my first smallie of the year, even though it was a dink 8-) Can't wait for the 70 degree weather again. And AJ - I'll be in NH this weekend, but no trout for me. I'm gonna try to get my smallie fix ;D
  4. I'm always feelin' the love 8-) Seriously, I freakin' love this site, I don't know what I'd do without it. I've learned so much about bass fishing, and it's awesome to go out and apply the stuff I've learned. Also regarding equipment: with the knowledge I've retained about bass equipment and tackle, I think I could be a pretty decent salesman in the fishing industry Thanks Glenn and mods - those really sound like some great anit-spam updates. I'm sure it makes your job much easier too.
  5. You guys should check out the 7" Fin-S. I've been experimenting with these lately and they're pretty awesome, especially the pearl color with a forked tail dipped in JJ's chartreuse...delicious 8-)
  6. Here you go: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_58035_100010002_100000000_100010000_100-10-2
  7. Weedless Octopus hooks for wacky rigging in weedy areas - Gamakatsu makes a style of these that's perfect. I think Cabela's has them. I'll try to find a link. Trolling motors that can automatically keep you on a spot in a windy day without intervention. (Compensates for wind, drift, etc) - Anchor Senkos that don't fall apart after about 3-4 fish. - YUM dingers are a little more durable, but I think the cheaper you get, the more durable you get. If you want that great Senko action I think you'll have to stick with the ones prone to tearing.
  8. Wow, that's pretty amazing...the fish must not be the sharpest knife in the drawer ;D
  9. I'll be up in Hanover this weekend until Saturday night. Definitely gonna catch me some smallies Saturday...can't wait!!!
  10. Hey, on the bright side, you caught one of 8 keepers out of 18 guys. Where's Mashpee? I think I'd like to fish there one of these days.
  11. There are a lot more CT guys now than there were 3 months ago. RESPEK
  12. There are a lot of good places to catch bass in CT. I can't say I have a favorite, but I do love shorefishing from several unnamed ponds I've found on Google Earth. It's a great way for me to unwind from a miserable day at work 8-) If you're looking for lakes to fish, here are a few good ones... Moodus Reservoir (lots of pads, pretty shallow, big fish potential. I read someone pulled a 10 pounder out of there last year) Bashan Lake (one of my favorites - deep and rocky, lots of docks and some decent weed cover. Good smallie population, but never pulled a big smallie from there. There are some good largemouth and you can get 50 in a day if you get on a school) Wyassup Lake (small and beautiful, there are some pads and docks, and some rocky points and flats. Mostly dinks in my experience but there are some big ones in there) Silver Lake (really really weedy and tough to fish well in the summer. Probably my favorite early spring lake. Tons and tons of fish, but you have to look really hard to catch the bigger ones) Good luck! P.S. CT River has great fishing, especially when the stripers move in. They should be coming up shortly if they're not here already
  13. It's definitely a frustrating time to fish right now, especially on weedy ponds. The ponds I've been fishing have tons of weeds/pads, but with this weather I feel like throwing a jerkbait. So the cover tells me to throw frogs and slop baits, but the weather/water conditions tell me to throw a jerkbait. It sucks and the only fish I can catch right now are caught on flukes and/or senkos worked around the weeds painfully slowly. And they're dinks. Don't know where the larger mamas went.
  14. Nice fish there Have you found the fishing to be a little slower with this cold front? I've found that to be true on the ponds I've been fishing. When it was hot the fish were incredibly active, now they've slowed down a bit.
  15. Nice interview again Glenn ;D
  16. Another very frustrating situation is shorefishing on a hot windless day with tons of mosquitos. That's almost always enough to make me leave.
  17. Anyone under the age of 100 who backreels in this day and age is trying to show off.
  18. I almost always use the Uni knot. It's really really easy to tie, and very strong. It's not as strong as the palomar, but you shouldn't have your drag set anywhere near the breaking strength of the line anyway. With walk-the-dog baits you can even leave a little loop in the Uni knot if it floats your boat. I don't think I'll ever need another knot, although I do use the palomar for downshotting.
  19. Anyone use the wiggle rig?
  20. Unfortunately, on the weedier lakes I fish, the pads have already grown in along with all the weeds, so I can't do anymore jerkbait fishing there. But I was catching a bunch on X-Raps, Pointers, inline spinners, mini crankbaits, and wakebaits. Now I've pretty much totally switched over to soft jerkbaits (YUM Houdini Shad, Fin-S, and flukes), frogs (Gambler cane toads, Zoom horny toads), Ragetail Shad (I need to try out the rage toad), and Berkley blade dancers (the weedless kind with the skirt - these baits are amazing). Also have caught a few on senkos and drop shot. Oh, and some nice night fish on the black/blue chatterbait.
  21. I got it a couple times each spring while living in my fraternity house...I actually didn't mind it. It's kind of satisfying to wake up with crust on your eyes, scratch it off, and put those eyedrops in...call me crazy. Usually went away within a day or two anyway.
  22. I think it's a good thread with some good info. Good posts Micro and Hoover. And Micro - I work for a large insurance company (in the annuities side though), and I agree with you. Most people think insurance companies are out to screw them, and although I guess that's sometimes the case, I'd argue that it's rarely if ever the case when you deal with large reputable companies. Their reputation is worth far far more than any individual claim, and if word gets out that they screwed someone over, you can bet the consequences would be huge for that company.
  23. I'm still planning on going up - my brother is checking to see if he has to work, and if he does I'll just rent a boat. How many people are in for sure? Mike - you wanna do an informal list or something?
  24. Sorry man, I don't have experience with Kistler rods, but I will say that I'm very happy with my Crucial. It's a spinning rod though... I picked up and played with a Kistler magnesium two nights ago and wasn't impressed...it just felt a little bulkier then my comparable Crucial. Hopefully someone can help you out better...
  25. I think I replied in the smallie section, but it's worth repeating... Topwaters, but especially a black/blue chatterbait. They're fantastic for night fishing. Caught my PB smallie and many other big ones on this bait at night. You all fish the same locations at night? I fish the same general areas, but I get the feeling that fish roam a little more at night under the cloak of darkness and are actually easier to catch than they are at midday. Is that not true?
