  1. Nice post RW. I wish more people could understand that socialism/communism just doesn't work because there's no incentive to work hard or produce. It's as simple as that. If I remember, I want to post a quote from Hank Rearden in Atlas Shrugged, regarding capitalism. It sent chills down my spine. A common misconception about Thanksgiving is that it originated as a day set aside to thank the natives for teaching them to grow and harvest corn, etc. However, it actually originated as a day set aside to thank God, not the natives. I specifically remember learning in grade school that Thanksgiving was a day to thank the natives. What a crock of PCness.
  2. They should all be hung.
  3. One...million...bass...and I ate them all
  4. In the spring, low 40's temps are beautiful and I can catch a bunch on jerkbaits. In the fall, low 40's temps mean I'm probably not catching much of anything. My favorite fall technique this year is slow-rolling a 1/2 oz chatterbait along the bottom, so that the blade barely vibrates. I think I'm pretty much done for the year though. Water temps in the high 30's, low 40's, and it's been really windy lately.
  5. I like Dimitri too - "I prefer to call fishing what it is: tricking and killing." Haha, the killing part doesn't apply to us C&Rers, but it's still funny.
  6. Awesome technology for sure, but I feel bad for the serial killers who use table saws for dismemberment
  7. Pain killers are scarily addictive. My friend's father had a serious problem with Oxycontin, which he started taking because of serious knee problems. The life-ruining potential of all of these medications is very scary.
  8. How big of an impact to you think the next administration's tax policy will have? I find it unbelievable that at a time like this, there are even considerations of increasing the capital gains tax and the corporate tax rate. Could some of this current market drop be attributed to the possibility/probability of these types of tax increases? I like the idea of suspending the capital gains tax and at least leaving the corporate tax rate where it is, if not cutting it. Granted, a very different situation, but look at Ireland - they used to be the poorest country in Europe. They cut the corporate tax rate to 12% and they are now the richest country in Europe, IMO in no small part to cutting that tax rate. After the 1929 market crash, taxes went way up, which was probably a leading factor in the ensuing 10 years of depression. ?
  9. First time it's dipped below $2 in my town in a long time: $1.99 ;D It's really amazing how much less money I spend now than I did over the summer. I was driving a lot more in the summer, filling up about every 6 days for $55 to $65. Now I'm filling up every 8 days or so (can't fish after work anymore :-/ ), and it's about $25. That's a difference of over $200/month, and I have a 15 gallon tank 8-) RW - in your opinion, how much lower might gas prices go? Do you think oil will stay in the mid- to high-40's for a while?
  10. Dane Cook? Seriously? :-?
  11. Robin Williams is great. One that sticks out in my mind is Alex Reymundo. I've only seen one of his routines, but it was absolutely hilarious. I didn't want to post links to youtube because there's some pretty dirty language, but look him up if you have a minute.
  12. Don't really use spooks for freshwater, but I do use the Sammy and Gunfish a lot. The Sammy is a great bait - very easy to walk the dog and manipulate. Especially when there's chop on the water, my favorite walk-the-dog bait is the Gunfish. It's really loud, spits a lot of water, and like the Sammy, casts ridiculously far, which is often a big advantage. I know spooks are great baits, but you can't beat the quality of Lucky Craft - quality hooks, designs, and I love the oval split rings. When a fish hits the Sammy, she's hooked immediately - it's like the bait just sticks to fish.
  13. Biggest this year 6 lbs . Not the 7.5 that was my goal; however, the year's not quite done yet...
  14. Definitely S'more flavor. Strawberry is a distant second. Can't stand them out of the pack - they need to be toasted well. Probably has something to do with the fact that a cold s'more is not a s'more at all. 8-)
  15. Great fish man
  16. Wow, great fish ;D I bet those were some great fights.
  17. Hisaaki (Chaki) Kobayashi, Central CT 15' Canoe with a flat back, trolling motor. Very stable, two fishermen can comfortably fish standing up as long as you have some experience standing in canoes, and as long as you aren't 6'5" 300 lbs. From ice-out until mid-fall I fish almost every day, mostly from shore during the week, and I'll take the canoe out on the weekend or fish on a friend's boat. I've found a bunch of awesome, small ponds that are great for shorefishing, and in the late fall to late winter I do a lot of trout fishing on the Farmington River to get my fix. I prefer fishing small little-known ponds, but often take the canoe out to bigger lakes in the spring and summer. Often go up to NH to go float-tubing in the summer. Gotta love mountain smallies. Might start fishing a couple tourneys next year as a non-boater, but for me fishing is mostly for fun. If you find yourself in Central CT or anywhere close and want to fish, send me a PM 8-) New picture - a salmon I caught 11/29 ;D
  18. My dart skills peak around 6 beers, then taper off pretty quickly An older friend of mine is a pro dart player - plays some mini tours and travels a bit. I've actually never played with him, but probably twice a year he gives my brother and me a bunch of darts, flights, etc. Always bring my own to the bar now, which makes me look good to an outsider until I actually start using them. It's definitly a lot easier playing darts with a good set. Can't stand crappy bar darts - it's frustrating.
  19. Bird dog, great post. thetr20one - eh, not worth it.
  20. Nice fish! I won't be wearing a t-shirt again until May, unless I have a jacket over it :-/ Care to show that bait?
  21. Thanks guys, I'll definitely be looking into tacklemaking this winter. I'll start with jigs
  22. Sunday nights always suck. A whole week of work ahead (yes, that smiley is irrelevant in case you got the wrong idea )
  23. Nice trip and report You're a better man than I - my plan was to go bass fishing today, but it was a severe cold front with strong winds (not good in a canoe), so I wimped out and went trout fishing instead :-[
  24. Happy birthday Tin to Win 8-)
  25. White X-Raps Probably my most productive lure in the clear NH lakes I fish.
