  1. Oh, to be NOT! young again. - Borat A follow-up trick after you bust the bottom out of the bottle is to break it on your head because it breaks so easily. I don't recommend this at all, however, because everything can go wrong.
  2. I prefer to call fishing what it is: tricking and killing. - D Martin :-)
  3. What do you guys think about this? It's pretty scary, and although it sounds like far-fetched science fiction, it sounds like it could actually happen... http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20127001.300-space-storm-alert-90-seconds-from-catastrophe.html?full=true
  4. Six boxes of Samoas to my dome this year. You definitely feel sick after a box, but if you eat any less than a box, you feel so unsatisfied.
  5. Hey guys, I've been trying to find the story and any pictures of the CT state record smallie and largemouth, but have come up empty-handed. Can anyone find information on these two fish? Also, if you have information on the records for any other northeastern state, I would also be interested in that. Thanks
  6. Nice fish
  7. Nice :-) She looks like she's cold. What'd you use to trick her?
  8. Beautiful smallmouth, Fish. I'm still waiting for your DD smallie
  9. In my opinion, the most successful pro anglers are the smartest, most athletic, and most hard-working individuals amongst the competition, just as with any other activity. Someone with a room-temperature IQ who throws like a girl has no chance at becoming a pro bass fisherman. On any given day, as in poker, luck is a factor. But in the long run, there's no such thing as luck - everyone gets the same cards, so to speak, in the long run. The more intelligent and learned anglers constantly put themselves in position to get lucky, but that requires skill. I love the quote by Ben Hogan, I believe: "The more I practice, the luckier I get." :-)
  10. One of my most memorable threads was the first one I started in the smallmouth section about bending the barbs on hooks ("Bending the Barb" I believe). I was new to the forum, had little to no experience in internet forums, and was just throwing out a question and my thoughts. I remember reading all of the replies and being excited about having just found such an awesome fishing resource where there were knowledgeable fishermen willing to discuss fishing topics at length. I was pretty psyched that I found a place where I could learn so much about fishing...as well as "Everything Else", which has come to be the first page I scour when I come to this site :-)
  11. Close the bail with your hand (not by reeling) and never reel when there's slack line around the spool. You'll never get another loop P.S. Braided line helps as well.
  12. Being able to fish for a couple hours after work makes my life much much better. It gives me something to look forward to all day at work, and it's a great way to unwind and have a great time after work. It's so depressing in the fall/winter when fishing after work is just not possible. The days go by much more slowly...but I don't have to worry about that again until October ;D
  13. Especially if you are financing or leasing, the dealerships can go below invoice. Don't let them tell you otherwise. One of them tried to screw me this way. You should make it very clear that you're "shopping around" to different dealerships so that each one knows it and each one is fighting for your business. That means you'll end up paying less. A good idea is to say that you don't want any BS - "Give me your absolute lowest price so I can go down the street to X dealership and compare. If they offer me a lower price than what you offer, you will not hear from me again." That way they will be less likely to give you a price anything other than the actual lowest they can offer. Do your research - there are tons of websites about this, and I even recall one that shows exactly how much people in your area paid for such and such car recently. If you feel like the salesman is trying to screw you, he probably is. Just go somewhere else. I just got a new car a few months ago and the first dealership I went to was total scum - it was unbelievable. They tried to pull every single trick in the book and I couldn't even get them to give me straight-forward numbers without them forcing me to test-drive, etc. Needless to say, I ended up elsewhere. The other one I dealt with was really easygoing and pressure-free. I would actually rather pay more to deal with them than go elsewhere, even though they also offered me a lower price. The first place actually used the line, "So what is it gonna take for you to walk out of here with a brand new car, TODAY?" - This was after I repeatedly stressed that I was not going to make a decision that day. It was pretty pathetic. Good luck
  14. 1st bass of '09 yesterday. Small one, but it felt great to catch 8-)
  15. 1st of '09 caught yesterday afternoon. She's small, but pretty. It was a pretty pathetic "fight" but I still couldn't stop smiling after she slammed the spinner
  16. Oh, how I've waited for spring to arrive. I don't think you southerners realize how incredibly psyched I am for bass fishing this spring. My elevated spring excitement almost makes the long wait worth it. Almost.
  17. Cast netting bedding bass? That's pathetic. Also, if you can get that close without spooking the bass, I really believe it would be easier just to flip a jig next to the bed and catch the fish. It would be a lot more fun too. And about the 1000+ fish - at least they weren't bass :
  18. I also sent a PM a while ago, no response. I hope he's okay. I miss his posts.
  19. Any reason?
  20. As with many things in life, we don't appreciate them until they're gone (temporarily or permanently). I always take my thumbs for granted, but not right now. Thanks and get better soon ;D
  21. Okuma swimbait rod - 1/2-5oz, 7'6" Very impressed with the lightness of the rod for the price ($109.99). No problem throwing ~3oz wakebaits. Unfortunately, haven't had the chance to catch a fish with it yet, but I'm certain that it will perform well in that respect.
  22. No luck yet. I've fished from shore a couple times on lakes that iced out a couple days previous and there was a weird green moss-type thing growing in the shallows that looked bad. Went out to one of my ponds on Saturday with fishizzle, threw everything imaginable (jerkbaits, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, dropshot, lipless cranks) in every area without a bite They just need a few more days of warm weather I think...or I need to learn how to fish 8-)
  23. Nice work I've been out shorefishing a few times now that most of my ponds are open, but no luck yet. My ponds just opened up last week - looking forward to feeling that first fish of '09.
  24. T-Bell looks the same in the toilet as on the plate. Even though it's legitimately mystery meat, it is really delicious.
