  1. If simply speaking to exes through Facebook puts a marriage in jeapordy, maybe Facebook isn't their biggest problem. I keep in touch with so many friends through Facebook that I might never have kept in touch with otherwise. I think it's a great thing, taken in moderation.
  2. In FL - seagulls, pelicans, moray eels (that was on bait though) In CT - snapping turtles (twice), bullfrog (on a SPRO frog)
  3. Loomis IMX SJR782. Best fishing-related purchase of my life :-)
  4. In bass fishing you really don't need a low ratio to winch the fish in since they really aren't that powerful and don't get that big (compared to saltwater fish). It all comes down to preference. I will continue to buy 7.1 ratio casting reels because I like how they feel and you can really zip in your bait when you're done with the cast, possibly resulting in more casts per day and more fish per day. To slow-roll, I just reel really, really slowly :-)
  5. I would recommend 8 lb test PP for what you're talking about. I've used 5 lb PP on my UL, and it was a lot of fun, but 5 lb is cobweb-thin, and the wind poses a real problem with it. You can cast the tiniest baits a mile, however. 8 lb test braid is perfect for what you want, IMO. I use it all winter for trout fishing.
  6. That ain't the hottest combo I've ever seen Seriously though, it looks pretty sweet, except I could do without the flames. You should replace the flames with cork
  7. Awesome :-) I always enjoy your posts and your quality pictures, Fish. Congrats on the PB Northern strain!
  8. I saw an 8 and a 9 yesterday but passed on them in order to catch 6 or 7 0.5 lbers :-) You guys are crazy...but I do understand what you're saying. I wish I could be in your situation.
  9. = one postcard per 18 seconds. You can do better than that!!!

  11. I can't imagine a reel in the same price range as an STX casting better. I think you anti-STXers are loco, meng
  12. I've never used the parabolic one which is definitely lighter than the regular flippin' sticks, but I don't know what you guys are talking about. Lighter and more sensitive than a Steez or Loomis IMX/GLX? Absolutely not, and it's not really a matter of opinion, IMO ;D IMO, even a Shimano Crucial is more sensitive than a Carrot Stix. I bought a Carrot and traded it in for a Crucial a week later because it wasn't as sensitive as I had hoped. The one thing I miss is the color. That's it.
  13. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2009/0331091stool1.html The police report is pretty funny
  14. That's also what I heard, but I wanna see pictures! And was he fishing an UL setup with a crappie jig? Where's the news article? That's the kind of stuff I want to know and see, and I can't find it anywhere!
  15. Hmm, good idea for a thread. Before I get too old (hopefully I have some time - I'm 24), in no particular order, I would like to: Go skydiving Catch a 15+ lb largemouth, 8+ lb smallmouth. Write a book, or several. Get my PhD in philosophy. Go fishing with my grandkids (need to have kids first, but I'm in no rush). Own my own (successful) business. Travel the world. Camp in Alaska. Most importantly, I'd like to continue to be lucky enough to avoid any devastating tragedies in my life. It's scary to think about, but so many things can go so wrong at any time.
  16. No doubt - black/blue chatterbait. 1/4 to 3/8 oz for water 10' or less, 1/2 oz for anything deeper (haven't found any heavier than 1/2 oz). Anything from slow-rolling the bottom to reeling very fast near the surface.
  17. The fading of color is almost imperceptible with yellow braid, and it is imperceptible with white braid. Those are my favorite two colors (because of visibility). However, if it bothers you, before you discard the line, take all the line off the spool and tie your mono backing to the faded end - the old switcharoo. Now it's almost like you're fishing with brand-new braid.
  18. So no one knows the full story behind any of the New England record bass such as lure/bait, time of year, story, etc.? Any pictures? It seems to me that this shouldn't be such restricted information :-/
  19. Holy crap, are those "guys" serious? I hope they're joking.
  20. Haha, I watched it 4 times and laughed my ace off ;D
  21. This is unbelievable: http://www.consumerfreedom.com/pressRelease_detail.cfm/release/258
  22. I love that bait. Last spring I was catching bass on them when the water temp was still in the high 40's I love them especially in the late spring throwing them over submerged weeds that are growing towards the surface, but not quite there yet. The rattling sound is pretty enticing.
  23. Thanks for the story Fish Nice smallies, but I like the pattern more on the smallie in your previous thread. That one was gorgeous.
  24. I have trouble getting myself to deadstick a bait completely for more than 10 seconds or so. I'll make casts that last a good 3-5 minutes, but I can't help but add a quick, tiny twitch to it throughout the cast. In your opinion, is a true deadstick for 3-5 minutes actually sometimes preferable to my approach? It just seems silly that a bass would approach an unscented jig, watch it for 2 minutes without losing interest, and finally inhale it when it's not moving at all...
