  1. Hmm, I wonder if anyone has given up fishing once he's "found" golf? It seems to me that more people give up golf for fishing than vice-versa. Then again, this is a fishing website ;-)
  2. I started the summer before 8th grade and became totally obsessed. Played on my college team, was captain my senior year, and when I was playing a bunch in the summer I was a scratch. I graduated college in 2006 and rediscovered fishing. Since then I have played barely at all. This year I've played one round, and it was a scramble fundraiser beerfest. I have no desire to play - I'd rather go fishing than play golf, every single time. No regrets here, although I'll probably pick it back up within the next year or two...if fishing gets old Golf is definitely a great game though. As my grandfather used to say, "Golf is the greatest game ever devised by man." I have to agree. Incidentally, I wish the technology stopped advancing when the Titleist 975D was all the rage, and we were still using Titleist Tour Balatas or Tour Prestiges. The Maxfli Revolution was sweet too. It was much more enjoyable around the greens (and off the tee) with wound balls, but unfortunately, you would be at too huge a disadvantage if you were to use them now. They probably don't even make wound balls anymore :-/
  3. Yeah, I'd say that qualifies as a big one Great fish Matt. How long did you deadstick the 'gill? You just let it sit for a while, or did you twitch it? How did she hit it, with a slurp or a crash? How long did it take to land her? I've been using your wakebaits occasionally, just gunning for a fish half that size. Water temps in CT are rising fast, so the topwater bite should be on soon.
  4. A great way to work your obliques is to stand with your feet straight forward, shoulder-width apart, standing straight up. Hold a weight in one hand (I used a marine battery, about 40 lbs), and lean down as if you're putting the weight on the ground. Slowly raise it up, and start over. Make sure you only bend at the waist - don't contort your back or move your hips. If you do enough reps/sets, you'll really really feel it the next day, so watch out. Oh, and make sure the hand that doesn't have the weight is on your head. You'll feel the stretch. This exercise worked great for me. Unfortunately, I stopped doing it, and my obliques have transformed to spare tires.
  5. No, I didn't know this before I google'd 46
  6. Haha, Root Beer - I don't know if I could calculate the answer to my question. I just know it's calculable. I usually just plug the numbers into a spreadsheet made by someone smarter that I am 8-)
  7. So a guy has a fixed annuity and his first deposit, 1/1/09, gets 5.5% interest, compounded annually. Each subsequent deposit may have a different interest rate, depending on when it's applied. If his first deposit on 1/1/09 was $50K, what would the interest rate on his second deposit be if it were applied on 3/1/09 in the amount of $25K, and his balance on 1/1/10 were $80,425.00? I don't know if that's easier or harder than what you're used to, and I don't want to figure out the answer, but have fun if you want to
  8. Fishizzle just got the new Barbie push-button setup. Apparently he was on a pretty solid bluegill pattern this past weekend. The key was to skip the worm and bobber under overhanging trees, to the wind-blown side of submerged bushes in 10" of water, and let the bobber float towards the bushes. My only advice to him is to set the hook as hard as possible when that bobber goes down. You don't wanna take any chances.
  9. That, and the $400K+ being spent to send U.S. researchers to gay bars in Brazil to explore why gay men get drunk and engage in "risky behavior", and how this risky behavior can be curbed. They could have paid me $20 bucks and I would have given them the answer.
  10. Any man who continues to talk about how drunk he is should be kicked in the throat.
  11. The alcohol is there so that you only get very temporary relief before you become dry again, then apply more cream, so you go through the bottle faster, so you buy more. Maybe?
  12. Awesome! Great post Ms. Matstone, and glad to see your daughter is hooked Very impressive that she was able to get so many fish her first time out - she must have good coordination.
  13. Some great-lookin' fish there. Nice
  14. They're the worst. I can clog them with a bad fart.
  15. Awesome, thanks for the info guys, especially RW. I'll call them today.
  16. Thanks guys. Any advice on what kind of tip I should get? My rod is a Loomis IMX, 6'6 M power.
  17. Hey guys, somehow the ceramic insert on the last guide (the tip) of my IMX cracked and fell out. The guide is unbent and fine otherwise, but unusable. What should I do? Thanks :-)
  18. I've experienced that before - it sucks, and there's really nothing you can do about it. I had two little ponds I used to fish, now one is drained (Sam's Club parking lot), and the other is inaccessible.
  19. What's red and goes up and down? A tomato in an elevator.
  20. He who farts in church sits in own pew.
  21. This has the potential to wipe out a lot of people and we in the US aren't as worried as perhaps we should be. Other countries are forbidding travel to and from Mexico. Not the US. I think I know why, but don't want to get political ;-) Remember, this is the beginning stage of the virus. If it spreads, it does so exponentially, and there's no real cure for the disease. No es bueno.
  22. Exactly, as long the Blue Moon is bottled. I've found the draft Blue Moon to be very inconsistent, at least in the bars I frequent. Hold the orange. I also love Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and when it's hot and sunny out, I'll usually throw in a few frosty Coronas towards the end of the drinking session.
