Hey guys, Went out to my favorite lake with fishizzle yesterday (10/25/09) for a few hours. It was a chilly, windy day, with wind out of the northwest, and surface temps at 52-54. We started out on a submerged roadbed (same one where I caught my last nice fish), with no luck. The roadbed is an awesome piece of structure, which, at the current water level, is 6 feet deep on top, dropping to 12-14 feet on either side, with large chunk rock scattered throughout. As I've been doing lately, I stuck with a black/blue jig with a Ragetail chunk trailer of the same color. We scanned some dying weed clumps, picking off a couple small bass and a couple pickerel, then headed back to the roadbed for another shot. Nothing for a while, until I got this one on a 1/2 oz Manns' Stone jig, right off the end of the roadbed where it drops to about 14 feet. Felt a little tap, set the hook, and the fight was on. She was a bit sluggish due to the cold water, so she didn't jump, but she did pull nice and hard, especially boatside. After this, we snagged a couple more shorts, then called it a day. All in all, a very slow day, but this fish turned what otherwise would have been a bad day, into a decent one. I'll finish with a couple pictures of some nice New England scenery :-)

Glenn, It's YOUR website and forum, and we get tons of amazing information and entertainment FOR FREE, thanks to YOUR site. Anyone who complains needs to unbunch is undergarments. I don't agree with every one of your policies, but honestly, I have no right to complain about it unless I'm paying a membership fee. You and the mods do an amazing job, and just know that regardless of any complaints you get, the vast majority of us are incredibly thankful for having a place like this to come for information and entertainment. Honestly, I would not be surprised if it passed. These FRAUDS are taking plays directly out of Castro's playbook, and no one is doing a freaking thing about it.

Well, maybe not UCONN, but you should hear the local news in Hartford. Deadly shootings every couple days. It's pretty ridiculous. I make it a point to steer clear of that deadbeat "city". Prayers for the family. Very tragic story.

The media got thrown for a loop. It's pathetic. Based on "body language" the police believed the guy, and it was just assumed he was telling the truth. I'd be a lot of money it was a publicity stunt. Shame on that family for making so many people worry and pray.

The problem with a sting operation is that these people never even set foot on US soil. They send email messages or post on message boards and wait for some sucker to send them money. They don't ever have to meet that person face to face and they never have to leave their home, which is typically in a different country that doesn't have the resources to monitor this type of crime. "Are you one of the many people who aren't making as much as they'd like to? Are you tired of your long commute and spending money to get to work? Wouldn't you love to make a CEO's salary without leaving the comfort of your own home? Well now you can with our new work-from-home system!"...

I disagree. The kid took a fork/spoon/knife Boy Scouts eating utensil to school to use it to eat his lunch. That's it. An eating utensil that included an eating knife. To eat his lunch. What is the problem? Tyrius has it right - the problem is this ridiculous "zero tolerance" rule that would go so far as to include a Boy Scouts eating utensil on the same list as a hunting knife. The administrators need to grow a pair. You know what the root of the problem is though? Filthy scumbag lawyers - they're the ones who neutered the administrators. Oh, and yeah - someone could get in a fight, use this eating utensil to stab someone else, just like he could take a rock and bash someone's head, just like he could use his fist to break a nose, or a pen to poke an eye, etc. There's only so much parents can do. Yes, they are partially responsible for allowing, or not relizing that their kid brought his eating utensil to school. However, I don't think that's something they should be expected to worry about. It's an eating utensil. What happened to kids being kids? This whole culture of over-the-top paternalism infuriates me. Plus I'm peeved because I forgot to put my nicotine patch on today, so every news story I read is really getting to me 8-)

Thanks guys. No Paul, this is my new lake. About 500 acres, 65 feet deep at the deepest part. I love this place. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I leave my canoe at this lake, I haven't fished Huge Pond much. I will be fishing it a few times this November as long as it's not frozen. I have a feeling we're in for a terrible winter.

Hey Guys, I think it's been a while since I posted anything in this section, unfortunately. I haven't been fishing as much this year as last, and at my home lake the bite has been unusually weak this year, at least for big fish. I've had a couple 4.5 lbers, some 4's, and tons of 3's and under, but nothing big for me (5+), until last Saturday 10/10. I took my friend out for the day, and it was a cold, very windy day, which made it really tough to fish in the canoe. Whitecaps were spraying us, and although the trolling motor battery ended up holding pretty strong (didn't have to paddle thank God), going into the wind resulted in a speed of +/- 0.25 mph :-) Most of our day was spent getting to a spot, anchoring, and casting downwind. We started on a grass flat in 7-8 fow. This flat has been great the past two months, resulting in good numbers on a variety of baits (chatterbait, spinnerbait, crankbait, and especially dropshot). However, probably due to the fact that the surface temp has dropped from 72 two weeks ago when I last fished there, to 61 on Saturday, and also because the grass is dying (slightly brown), the flat was totally vacant as far as we could tell. We went downwind to the south end of the lake which is shallow and weedy just to get a few bites. I knew we could get some in the reeds, and was just trying to put my friend on a couple bass to avoid the skunk. It worked and we each caught two fish in the 1.3-2 lb range. We fished a few different spots with limited success, then motored into the wind all the way to the north side, where we also had limited success. At this point we were drifting with the wind along the northwestern shore when I realized we were on top of a submerged roadbed that often has a lot of fish on it, so I told my friend to drop the anchor so we could fish it for a while. I tied on a black/blue 3/8 oz Eakins jig with a black/blue Ragetail crawfish trailer, hoping the bass would be scouring the rocky roadbed for craws. I made a short cast and hooked up immediately with a 1.5 lber. The next two casts to the same spot resulted in two more fish of similar size. A little while later, I made a long cast (as long as possible) to a different part of the roadbed, twitched the jig a couple times, and felt a mushy weight. I set the hook, and for a split second it felt like I was hung up, until I felt the patented LMB head shake. Feeling the weight, I instructed my friend to please grab the net because I knew this was gonna be a good fish. She came to the surface, thrashed around, then went back down. As I horsed her to the boat, she rose again, then dove straight down. On that MH rod I have 40 lb Power Pro with a 17 lb test Berkley 100% flouro leader, and I have the drag cinched down pretty hard. She was able to pull a good 6-8 feet of line, which impressed me. After a flawless net job (thanks Nick), I was able to hold her and appreciate her beauty. If she's been caught before, it hasn't been for a while - her mouth was unscathed, and everything about her was beautiful, including her nice pot belly. Needless to say, she made my weekend, and I feel a lot better about an otherwise slow fishing season after this fish. Not a giant, but a nice, fat chunk. I lost my scale a couple weeks ago, but estimated her at 5.5-6 lbs - as usual, the pics don't do justice. What do you guys think she weighs?

Restaurants if the service doesn't raise a red flag for crappiness, I'll leave 20%. If the service is awesome, I'll leave 20% and tell the hostess that the service was great. At the townie bars I frequent, I tip huge because I've built (platonic) relationships with the bartenders. They hook me up, I hook them up. I don't mind leaving huge tips in those situations because I still end up paying less than if they had charged me for all my drinks. Win-win situation, even for the owner because he'll still make a profit off of my friends and me, and we'll go more often. Plus, with a couple of the most skilled bartenders, I don't even have to ask for another drink. It appears in front of me when I have about 25% left :-) Man, all this talk is making me thirsty.

I got this one in a river, spring of 2008. Not a huge fish, but proportionately, the fattest perch I've ever seen. Look at the bottom view.

These four pieces of trash didn't just brutally murder a woman. They murdered a mother and ruined or tainted the lives of all who were close to her, especially her daughter. What a sick world this can be.
