  1. I fish clear, natural lakes that are less than 1000 acres. 6' 10" ml spinning, 2000 size reel, 15# braid to a spro swivel, with 8# floro leader. In early spring i use a typical d/s hook, and nose hook a GYCB shad shape worm or Gambler shakey shad (similar) out the nose of the bait. (not thru from bottom to top) My leader length is about 5' long, to a pencil - type d/s sinker. In cold water, i want the bait only 1' above sinker. I am not worried about snagging weeds any time of year. As the water warms, i move the bait farther away from the weight. Whenever the water finally warms to 65* or more, i usually switch my hook and bait to a size 1 or 2 gama. ewg and 4-5" worms (chompers my fave, but any flat or pin style tail). In summer, my distance between hook and weight is 3' to 5'. I have no fear with weeds..throw it in there. I kinda like when it gets a little hung up, i try to leave it there and shake it a bit, pause, and then pull it off/out of the weeds. Sometimes that triggers a bite. Dropshotting is not one of my favorite ways to fish, but is my most productive and reliable way to get bit. I end up using it at some point almost every trip to the lake.
  2. We are all sons of fishes, and we share with our brethren.
  3. I couldn't disagree any more with your opinion. I use my relatively cheap electronics just for reading bottom depth/ features and for locating vegetation. I don't use it to find fish. I have caught 1000's of bass, pike, and a few big panfish without ever seeing them first with either my eyes or electronics, on a dropshot being used as a "search" bait or rig. I must be doing something wrong.
  4. I have seen many baits from the 60's, but that one i have never seen. Thanks for sharing Bubba.
  5. Or maybe they were small panfish.
  6. I would go online and find out as much as you can about the stream and any surrounding bodies of water that you might be able to fish. You can plan your attack and limit disappointments at the same time.
  7. Restaurant reviews for the new diner on the moon claim the food is okay, but there's no atmosphere.
  8. Thanks for posting mn fisher
  9. I didn't want to believe he was stealing from his job with the road commision - but when he opened his garage door, all the signs were there.
  10. I now keep a marker on the dash. After one of my bud knocked a spin outfit overboard in 5' water in heavy wind. If i had a marker handy we probabally would have got it back.
  11. The earth's rotation REALLY makes my day..
  12. They're $16 now? I paid that for 2 (many years ago). I had to replace the trebles from stock, i hope they come with better hooks these days..
  13. I have used the cap from certain bottles to do the same. Just drill a hole and thread it on. Not as good as Ajay's set - up, but it works and costs nothing.
  14. $480 for 1 year's worth of baits? Sheesh!
  15. My pb lm came on a perch ssr. Lm can eat fish up to 40 percent of their length, so a 6" ssr can be eaten by 16 "er - no problem. They may be too big for smallies though...
  16. I really don't eat freshwater fish. I know that i'm missing out on some good eats, but i don't like to fish for panfish, and the lakes i fish don't have many (if any) walleyes. I have read that if you are taking fish to eat there are a few steps to keep the fish tasty. Bonk them dead with a mini baseball bat and throw them in a cooler (with ice) on top of newspapers. Not directly on ice. A long slow death (as kept on a stringer, or in a "livewell") allows time for the juices they use to try to stay alive taint the meat. It sounded logical to me, and if i ever do plan to eat some, thats how i would do it.
  17. Well, my thought is if Glen gives him this avenue, he should be thankful and participate more.
  18. True, but i read about more complaints with weld cracks than bad rivets on new or very young boats. I am just saying don't think that you won't have problems with a welded boat, or that welded is any better than riveted. Good luck with whatever boat you choose, i am sure you will love it WPC.
  19. Many a smallmouth got away at the boat because of the hesitation with treble hooks - no net.
  20. I know that, and i love Bill, but i can't give him a free pass on the way he handles those giants. I have a signed 9"x 12" photo and his bobblehead. I am a nut!
  21. I have a 7' bps tourney special med. power / moderate action b/c rod that i still use today for cranks. It's gotta be 30+ yrs old. I liked the "power hump" back then, now, not so much.
  22. Speaking of Bill Dance...i always cringed when i see him jack the jaw of the fish he catches. Somebody of his stature should know better. It's almost disgusting...
  23. Nothing wrong with riveted boats. My "cheap" '96 grumman has rivets and no leaks yet. I guess you don't travel by air either. ?
  24. It may have saved you the aggravation of countless casts with no bites. ? Just kidding..i've wacked tails off of a few paddletails myself. But i wouldn't admit it publicly...
  25. That's what i thought this topic was about. I wanted to see the new jumpsuits.
