  1. Neat article, but the Alabama record was caught on Wilson Lake, in the Wheeler tailrace. Not on Wheeler in the Guntersville tailrace.
  2. Steve Kennedy got his start in a borrowed aluminum boat. As long as you don't have to accommodate a co-angler and your live well is in working order you should go for it. Any embarrassment you may feel will be long gone when you beat guys in sparkly rigs. Good luck!
  3. Shaw Grigsby caught a 7+ on day 2 (actually Saturday) He didn't catch anything over 2 on day 1 when I rode with him
  4. 4-0 Wilson Lake, TN River
  5. The first one. My first thought was also that the fins look more realistic. Both are nice though.
  6. My wife is wondering what the heck I am laughing about. I used to work in an office of over a thousand people, and it is all sooooo true!
  7. Nobody pi$$ed in anything. I wasn't even a little bit upset. Some people do just enough to get by I guess. :
  8. Wow. I'm surprised to see these responses. All of this care and attention to detail most of you take with different aspects of your gear (like using a scale to set drag for example...) and you'd skimp tying one knot that could make a difference. No doubt if you get spooled it's bad, but at the very least you give yourself a chance. You may even be able to salvage your line, getting spooled can be expensive. Plus, what poor fish deserves to be swimming around with 150 yards of line trailing it? The only reason I can think of to not tie a knot is pure laziness, and that's not a good enough reason for me. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.
  9. "don't try and buy it all at once" That is some great advice. When faced with the decision to buy one killer setup or 2 so-so ones, get the killer one. If you don't, you'll end up replacing the so-so ones, which is a waste of your hard earned money. Buy your last rod first, kind of deal...
  10. DANG!!! Even though the water circulation looks good, I'd check the water pump to make sure it hasn't dried out or become brittle. What a score!
  11. Congrats! How awesome. I wish you much success! One day I will have the nerve to do my own thing too.
  12. I'd venture that it keeps more than coyotes away. I wouldn't want to mess with that guy! ;D
  13. I am a full fledged member of the Quantum crew. I also used to work for one of the W.C. Bradley family of companies.
  14. Nope. Unfortunately. :-X
  15. I don't ask. Most of the time I don't take it when they offer. The only exception is if it's a significant distance away, and tow vehicle gas is involved, then we'll agree to a split of gas expenses. Boat payments, and insurance are just part of the joys of boat ownership, and I wouldn't factor that into splitting expenses. Same with vehicle expenses other than gas. Maybe tell your guests to halve gas costs and pop for lunch, and you'll take care of the rest. Seems fair to me. At least it's a heckuva lot better than fishing alone
  16. Success! The top shows a close up of the ends. Just a "T" with the top sawn off to form a cup of sorts. Same on the other side. The tape is there only to identify which piece goes where, since all 4 bows are different lengths. The middle pic shows the bow shape. The third pic shows how well 4 bows (10 bucks) hold up the cover. Depending on your rails, this may not work for you, but it's been great for me!
  17. I made my supports from PVC. 1/2". Hard to explain what I did, but lemme see if I can snap some pics real quick...
  18. It really depends on your talent level. Some people play once every couple of weeks, and hit some balls every now and then, and are EASILY able to shoot 77 or better. Others play nearly every day and can't break 90. Either you have it, or you don't. If you don't, then you'd have to dedicate your fishing time to golf. And that's just plain wrong! ;D I'm a golf pro, so I can't comment on how long it takes to be a good tournament angler, because I stink in tournaments. So, I stick to fun fishing.
  19. x100 It's all in the thumb!
  20. Besides the fb being the old model? There was a spool redesign, plus some sturdier gearing. You can find the older fb for way less than 499 if you look around.
  21. 18.99 for a LC jerkbait. I was not happy about it, but d**n if it doesn't produce! I want some huddleston shads, but even 2 for 16 bucks plus shipping, I'm a little hesitant. We'll see though. 8-)
  22. I am not cheap with my hobbies, but with everything else I am. Coupons don't look like much, but it adds up. So I use those when I can. While most of my co-workers eat at the restaurant at work, I carry my trusty cooler stocked with food from home. We rarely eat out. Maybe once in 3 weeks. No movies, alcohol, tobacco, or digital cable. Store brands are just fine for everything except soda. Coca-cola only for me. I have a Bass Pro Shops rewards Visa, that gets used for gas, groceries, bills where I can, and incidentals. Again the little rewards add up. over 50 bucks so far this year. I of course do not carry a balance on this card, or any of my cards, as this is a terrible waste of money. I have work shoes from payless that cost less than 20 bucks, and 5 pairs of Dockers that I'll wear until the bottoms get stringy. Yeah, I'm a cheap bas***d, but when it comes to my hobbies, I don't mess around. I'll still look for deals, but they will certainly not be some off brand, or sub standard item.
  23. Well, I picked up a bottle of mineral oil (labeled as a laxative strangely enough), and didn't add any scent. 1/4 tsp was plenty to do each bag of 30 finesse worms. A little goes a loooong way, that's for sure. So now, I have to buy more worms! You know, to keep them from drying out in the store, yeah, that's it.
  24. Looks good all. I did a BPS spinning rod that I use in the creek for funsies...
  25. Too cool. 8-)
