  1. I have the premier glass crankbait rod. I only have one rod for crankbaits. It covers the gamet for me and I like it. I think it was $90 at the time I bought it.
  2. Maybe I wasn't clear in my first post. I already bought this stuff. I just used that link to show what it was. Sorry for the confusion.
  3. fellas, After reading that reelmagic is basically overpriced silicon spray, I went to the store and picked up this http://www.shop.com/Technical_Chemical_Silicone_Lubricant_11_oz_-17009939-p!.shtml It doesn't seem to be the same. Should I use it on my line? It has an odor to it and I don't remember that with reelmagic.
  4. hey man, here's a quick link to a page where a guy made his own. It has pictures for reference and an overview of how he did it. http://www.mexfish.com/sjdc/sjdc2004/sjdc040614a/sjdc040614a.htm
  5. It depends on what it's compared to. Some would say that carrot is a good alternative. If you're asking if it's better than graphite then the answer is usually yes.
  6. Maybe, it's sort of off topic but, I just bought a spool of the #6 and had a lot of trouble with it. I really have a hard time thinking that I spooled it wrong as I spooled twice and went through the whole drag it out behind the boat process. I got a lot of twists and eventually had to retire that set-up for the day as it was unfishable. I'll try another spool to give it a fair shot, but I was really disappointed.
  7. I don't know about a dynasty....You could build a case, but I don't think a team that is a dynasty needs a case built. I know you'll all hate this but, there was no denying the yankees dominance a few years ago, that was a dynasty. The BoSox will be on the way for sure but I don't think they'll hit that mark with one more.
  8. Keep in mind when reading that you don't and never will play for "your" team. Additionally, you are never a part in a win for "your" team, ever. You have no impact whatsoever on the performance of your team. So, this means that you are no cooler if your team is successful, it does however create an opportunity for you to make an arrogant a*s of yourself. This isn't an attack on any one person, but rather the ranting collective who gloat without social grace. The pats are good, this is their time. Eventually, because of the cap, they will be a ***** team, this is the business of sports. As will any other team that enjoys extended success in the NFL. Remember when the niner's were good? Randy Moss is everything that is wrong with professional sports. Sure he's talented, but were he not an athlete he'd probably steal your car. Keep in mind that his effort is only dictated by the teams performance and the number of times he's thrown at. That's lazy, plain and simple. Try that same thing at work and see how many people talk about how awesome you are. Only in America. Were I a pats fan, I could'nt root for him and then try to teach a child about right and wrong. Tom Brady is good, everyone already knows this. Belichik has done some questionable things, I'm not saying he's a cheat, but if it looks like a cat and sounds like a cat, it's probably a cat. Take that however you want. It's a game, and you don't play in it. Be a fan with some class instead of a windbag.
  9. The small things about your personality, (bands, cars, gossip) all that changes with time. The one or two people you know and who know you, really know you........ will be a constant in your life for awhile. Maybe not forever, but a long while. You're going to change a lot after high school, well always for that matter, but the core of your personality will remain the same. If you've found a couple people who know you at that core, then you have all the friends you need. Maintain those few friendships now, take the time out to be a true friend to the guys that have earned your respect, weather they pay that back is how you measure their worth to you.
  10. Man, I bet it's hard to have a class-act like tom brady on your team, and then try to support a guy like randy moss, without supporting a guy like randy moss.
  11. I've been listening to a lot of the chatter about boston today and I've noticed one common denominator. There are some RedSox fans who a true fans, people who know the crushing feeling of the name "bucky dent." Then, there are some people who thought the idea of the '04 season was neat and now they have a boston hat. Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken. Congratulations to all of you redsox fans who endured Wade Boggs riding around on a new york city police horse, you guys deserve to have these days.
  12. I have an accurist PT that I use for pitching and heavy worming. I like it. I like the flippin switch.
  13. It's the daiwa light and tough TL-631-4RB MH R 6'3" 1 10 - 17 3/16 - 1 TL-661-5RB H R 6'6" 1 12 - 25 3/8 - 1 1/4 TL-661-4RB MH R 6'6" 1 10 - 17 3/16 - 1 TL-701-5RB H R 7' 1 14 - 30 1/4 - 1 1/2 TL-701-3FB M F 7' 1 8 - 14 1/8 - 1
  14. Actually, I tried that (with two pauses as opposed to three) with the first reel full as I thought that maybe I'd spooled it wrong.
  15. I've not used the light stuff before (6# ultra-soft) and I spooled some up on one of my spinning reels. I could'nt fish with it. The memory was really, really bad, and it had been on the reel for three days. It got a lot of twist knots. I had to put that rod/reel away for the day. *I even tried spooling up another time just to make sure that I didn't spool it wrong the first time. What's the deal? * I do know how to spool a spinning reel and should be able to do it correctly one out of two times.
  16. I know that the m/f light and tough that I handled had a more moderate action that what I was expecting, but what chris said is really the best answer. A crankin stick from BPS is only like $40-$50 dollars and some would say that it's one of the better overall constant deals in fishing rods. MAde specifically for cranks.
  17. I'm assuming that you're bigger than she is? If so, try to stay on your feet as you should have the reach advantage, parry what she throws until you can get to an exit and protect your face. If she shoots and tries to take it to the ground, sprawl. Good luck dude.
  18. hey dsaavedra, after reading your other post, I think this rod may be the m/f your thinking of getting? If so, I think you'll be really happy with it for the baits you listed. I toyed with the same rod before deciding on the light and tough MH/f. The m/f seemed to have almost a moderate action which would be good if you're gonna throw spinners. When I posted, the poll was like 13 to 2 for the all-star. I was one of the two for the daiwa. I like mine a lot, I like the handle shape for pitching as well.
  19. I just got a daiwa L & T (TL-701-5RB) and am really happy with the purchase. I have an all-star that I like a lot also. I don't know what you would use yours for but mine is a jigging and worming rod. I guess it kind of depends on weather or not this is an all-purpose rod for you, or you have something in mind that it would be used for (don't say fishing)?
  20. Well, I don't recall exactly what my first post said but basically this is me, I apologize for it wordiness: It was in response to the post made by chug bug. He and I are similar in our stories with some subtle differences. I'm also a cop in a major metropolitan area. I love my job, but I work in a s#it-hole area. I don't know exactly how many calls or situations I've been on, but it's in the thousands. I've not been on long, but I am considered a veteren. I don't have the symptoms of self- medication but rather just a series of struggles as a result. I don't think that I can ever explain what it's like to do the job, all I can say is that there is a war here and there are a group of people who are a part of it everyday. My job is to take away the freedom of another in some cases and they will fight to keep it without regard for my safety. I've made the conscious decision to kill another person with my hands (justified), and was in the process of, when other officers arrived to help me. I work 8pm to 6am and that makes having a regular life hard. I've been there with 4 people at the moment they died a violent death. I've been a part of 46 scenes of violent death. I've carried dead babies to an ambulance. These things don't make me cooler, or tougher, or more of a man. I wish that I'd never done them. But they do stay with me, and sometimes I struggle with being "regular" when I'm not at work. I live for the opportunities that only we get. I loathe the things that only we have to do. I don't know that I'm worse off now than I've ever been, but I cannot say that I'm the same. 8 people on my department have been shot this year, and I thank somebody (because I think that God sometimes sits one out now and then) that I'm not one of them. The rest of you folks have been dealt a bad hand. My things are experiences I've had because of something I felt like I should or could do. This is for our people who never got home in the morning. This is for chugbug: I have been where you fear to be. I have seen what you fear to see. I have done what you fear to do. All these things I've done for you. I am the one you lean upon. The one you cast your scorn upon. The one you bring your troubles to, All these people I've been for you. The one you ask to stand apart. The one you feel should have no heart. The one you call the officer in blue. But I am human, just like you. And through the years I've come to see That I am not what you ask of me. So take this badge and take this gun. Will you take it? Will anyone? And when you watch a person die, And hear a battered baby cry. Then so you think that you can be All those things you ask of me?
  21. As far as I know, most of the major stores have dried up. I think BPS may have a limited selection still but it's pretty sparse. I don't think dick's ever had them on their site. They did have the biggest markdown though (I got two for $90 each). It just really depended on what the closest store to you had in stock and what they marked them for at the time. Most of them only have premiers and triumphs left anymore. I could be wrong, but you may have missed the bus.
  22. Papelbon makes the sox exciting to watch, he throws gas and has some pretty sweet dance moves. Manny's hair makes him look like one of the williams sisters. I'm not a fan of either team (if you knew who my guys were, I'd get balled from this site) but I think colorado is the better story. Boston is one of the super-powers now. They'll probably take it, and they SHOULD.
  23. It's well overdue but Thanks LBH and P-rock for your kind words. I deleted my post because most of the people on here are affected by something they could'nt control, or hand no hand in creating. My stuff is because of a choice that I made. I don't think that I qualify as much as most. You guys are top-shelf and I'm better for having joined up.
  24. Hey Chris, I've found out recently that most companies are really generous if you just ask. You can usually find a rep or contact on their web site and then just shoot them an e-mail or call. I'm trying to set up a tournament and have had good luck aquiring product by just talking directly to someone and being honest. It's worth a shot. Sufix sent me a TON of line for free. More than I'll need for this tourny.
  25. After picking your brains for rod selections I recently bought three new rods. For what it's worth here's what I think about them. Everything is in my amateur opinion, what I like you may not, and what I think you may disagree with. St. Croix Avid 6'9 medium-lite / extra-fast drop shot specific rod: Can't say enough good things about this rod for drop-shotting. The sensitivity is amazing. It really added to my ability to read various pulls, taps and bumps on the line. It wasn't difficult to tell what was happening to my rig, and translated to what I believe was a better ability to read and react to some hard-to-discern strikes that I commonly have with this technique. It loads up well and added good casting distance for me. The rod balanced really well with my browning midas reel and was really nice to fish with, I'm a big fan of the rear handle length too. I honestly believe that I caught more fish than I would have because of the added sensitivity. If you've been toying with the idea of buying a drop-shotting rod, I'd say this is a very very good choice, especially at the current sale prices. St. Croix Avid 6'8 medium / extra-fast RW said these were good. He is right. This is the best all-around spinning rod I own now. Paired with a stradic, this will be my new go-to spinning combo. They're good rods, that's it. If you can still find one on sale and can spend the money, you won't be disappointed. The avid is a jump up from most of the rods in this price range I think. Team Daiwa light and tough 7' heavy / tough TL-701-5RB worming/jiggingAfter posting some questions about similar rods, I went to BPS and Cabelas and just handled the two I had in mind. Ultimately, this came out the winner. I like that this one has a split grip. The reel seat has a good section of exposed blank as well that adds feeling for a rod this heavy. The handle has a good contour to it that feels really comfortable while palming. The rod is truly light for it's power. It's easily the heaviest powered, (read: stiffest) rod I have but the tip action picked up and fished a 3/8 once jig really well. In the common man's terms, I didn't sacrifice any sensitivity/responsiveness from going to a M/H to a H overall. I've yet to C-rig with this one (it'll be pulling double duty for me, overall it's my jig rod) but don't see it falling short for what I like in that technique. I think it's common sometimes for people to stay brand loyal to company A on this forum even if company A's rod isn't as good as company B's in some cases, but all the folks who said that these were a great value at $120 were right. I loved it after the first pitch. Speaking of, I don't know if I just fooled myself or what but I feel like the rod actually added some distance to my pitching ability as well. Maybe it's just better balanced, or it's the handle contour in my hand? Very happy with the purchase, would suggest it to others for sure. Okuma Aveon AE20 spinning reel After getting one of these from Okuma for a tournament give-away, I decided to buy one for myself. Lighter than what I'm used to using as I usually throw something a size up, but I didn't lose anything with the smaller size. Comparable to my Stradic, maybe, just maybe, a bit better overall. Absolutely no backplay. This reel casts a long way. It was spooled with #6 Yo-Zuri ultra soft and I was throwing a fluke. My initial reaction was actual suprise at how far it cast. Easily farther than my browning or shimano. Played fish well and has a smooth action to it. Good drag. On the spin-the-handle-see-how-far-it-keeps-spinning-on-its-own-test it fared pretty well, though not a smooth as my other two (however that translates to you). I like it, I plan on using it full time. Worth what they're asking.
