Sounds like an issue with the methodology, most braids over test by quite a bit. If I had to guess, I would say the loops had something to do with it, but without seeing it, could be a bunch of things.
The Rap will dive 4-5 feet, the Arbogast a bit over 6. Actual diving depth will vary with line diameter, cast length, retrieve speed, and tip location relative to water surface, so you could easily be around +/- 2 feet
The Lightning you already own will handle that. Load it with braid, 15-20lb.
ST Croix's line of surf rods have a 7' version that works well for a lot of things. The Teramar is a nice stick, but not for what you are looking to do IMNSHO.
Neither. Both will catch fish, but for me there are better options, The Googan thing is a knockoff, so there are several versions of the same thing out there. I'm not a fan of plastic trailers shaped like rind (said the guy who has some DIY pork brining in the fridge). Try the Zoom swimming chunk on that finesse jig.
Silly stuff. kinda like tennis scoring, numbers get smaller as hooks get larger until you get to 1, then you skip 0, and go to 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 etc, and now the numbers and the hooks get larger together. To make matters worse, there is no standard, so 2 hooks labeled the same size can be different sizes, sometimes significantly.
