  1. PB came in the afternoon, maybe early evening, not sure the exact time, but there are windows at all times of day depending on the body of water and time of year, and most of my biggest fish have come in the mid afternoon or evening into and beyond dusk. Ironically, early morning lags behind other times of day, not sure why.
  2. Two thoughts, - If I tell a kid "pick somethings out and I'll tell you how much" That's what we are doing. -In most states minors cannot enter into contracts, which purchases are.
  3. There are only a few lures, presentations, and conditions that require extreme specific rods, for most things there is a wide range of rods that would do the job adequately.
  4. Sounds like the tolerances on the new reel's drag stack is a little off, and it may be a case of the first reel's drag is greased and the second's not. No 2 reels (or any other machine) work identically. New washers will solve, but unless they are really gone, they can be brought back and polished.
  5. We used to say boron for moron in the tennis graphite industry in the 80s...
  6. No. But it is true that color is usually not that important. Chartreuse is a good color for most fish because most fish's eyes can see it well, even when they don't see it as chartreuse. It is also true that shape and size are often important.
  7. Nope. Even in the salt where fish actually yank back, with properly set 15 lbs of drag, it would take at least a 20-30 lb fish (depending on the species) to pull out more than a couple of feet of line.
  8. I see this or something similar a lot. If you are concerned with breaking off on a hookset, either set less, or use bigger tackle. If the drag is slipping, it is reducing the force applied at the hookset, and defeating the purpose of that giant swing. Knowing how hard to set a hook is part of knowing how to fish.
  9. That will work, I use cork bits and wood glue, fill it a bit proud and sand down. Good time to give the whole grip a light sanding with a fine grit.
  10. Pool noodle and rubber band in a Crown Royal bag.
  11. If I lost $50 in baits a day, I'd learn how to fish...
  12. I'm loading your resume to PETA's Indeed, you sound perfect... After you loose a tug of war that you believed to be a fight for survival? I'm thinking 15 seconds, max...
  13. OP said he was going to pay to have it done. Labor is running $150-200 per hr, and parts and materials will come to a hefty sum for a boat of that vintage that has been sitting around for 7 years, and even doing it ones self, you'd be looking at a couple of grand or more depending on what you find, and most likely that won't be the end of it.
  14. Yup, most likely mange.
  15. Because they live in a pond with sheer walls and they like shallow water. We used to sneak into Camp David and liveline tadpoles for huge trout.
  16. In a really small body of water, you can singlehandedly shut down the fishing if you fish it often enough, but it's a temporary thing, and not easy to do, so I wouldn't worry about it. I was the only one allowed to fish a local golf course, and it wasn't like cheating, it was cheating, 20-40 3-8 lb bass every outing, good for practicing, just like a driving or putting range.
  17. Yup, as a kid, I used to troll while rowing a small jon boat doing laps around a small lake in the Catskills with 2 rods, one was usually a #9 or #11 Rapala, and the other a spoon or spinner, caught pretty much everything that swam in that lake.
  18. Try a paddle tail on a swim jig or weighted screw lock hook, some baits are very speed sensitive, and most paddle tails aren't.
