  1. Silly bass guys! Trolling is just another method of fishing, it requires just as much or little skill/knowledge as any other method. Do you think an Alabama rig would work?
  2. I don't think its a matter of preferring longer vs shorter per se, depends on what you're doing, I won't fish poppers with anything longer than 6', I prefer short rods for pitching spinnerbaits and cranks in close quarters, I like a 7'6" (old low mod flipping stick) for jigging spoons, most other things I'm somewhere between 6'6" and 7', I just go with what works and feels best, for some things rod length is critical for others not so much, but to each his own...
  3. Stiff line will be more prone to do that, some practice, a tad more brake and a "slower" oil on the spool bearings will help (but then you won't be able to sit there playing with your reel and stare at your spool while it spins for ever, can't have everything)...
  4. depends on the line, lure and rod, sometimes its very light, I'm thinking of poppers, and sometimes its cranked down like for jigs, buzzbaits and such...I don't think about my drag settings much for most fresh water though...
  5. I'm not saying you'll never catch a fish on a spoon at night, but its not something I would do...
  6. Black catches fish, sexy shad (insert latest must have color here) catches fishermen, fishermen buy lures....
  7. I'll second the accuracy versus distance for bass fishing, also, a lot of folks have trouble estimating the actual length of a cast and usually overestimate the distance, just as a visual aid, the right field fence in Yankee Stadium is just over 100 yards from the plate, It would be very difficult if not impossible to reach that with typical bass tackle.
  8. By that time everyone will have a chip in their head that interphases with the latest Curado, eliminating all backlashes by just thinking about it..... "Soilent green is people!!!"
  9. Its not "northern", but I know of at east 3 over 10 that are still swimming in Southern MD.
  10. God bless the American male sporting goods consumer.......carry on.
  11. With a moniker like that you should only be handling crabs, vinegar and lemon juice both work great.
  12. STOP INTERRUPTING ME YOU STUPID BASS!!!...CAN'T YOU SEE I'M PRACTICING!!!
  13. Be the fish..... Sorry, I couldn't help it (Now I gotta go watch Caddy Shack) After having worked with and for some pro athletes (real athletes not anglers) This is the common thread, I've found, almost without exception, the best of the best do it "their way" whatever that is, I'm not sure what you are doing that caused the comment (I have a feeling youth may have a lot to do with it too) but you can't change who you are or how you feel about things, ie be true to yourself. For what its worth, I'm a fairly successful tournament angler (real angling, not fresh water), and I find that once having gained the hard earned experience and know how (ie I'm old) the less I think about it and stress, the better I do. I hope that helps.
  14. x3, I think you may be over thinking it.
  15. Wait, I think we're glossing over the fact that you are going to your place of employment on your day off, How much is a life?
  16. I have the recurring one where I'm trying to teach Jessica Alba to use a baitcaster, she's hopeless...
  17. More fishing makes you better at fishing, more reading makes you better at reading...
  18. I never argue with fish...
  19. I find all fishing shows boring, ( I like fishing not watching TV) But that little elf guy with the annoying voice and the 2 lb test line is worth the price of admission. And I think Mike D having a max IQ for his guests is brilliant.
  20. There was a guy here who did a whole spreadsheet on reels, more information than a tween's facebook page, and if you play it backwards you can almost hear Robert Plant singing "Shimano is the Dark Lord..."
